HIS MATE

CHAPTER 3

I stared at him and realized the strong smell of lavender and vanilla was coming from him. I tried to stop myself but I failed as I inhaled his scent. He was a tall guy with his muscles threatening to rip his black body hug shirt apart. His eyes were green. His jet black hair was properly kept on his head. He was about 6 foot something easily towering my 5’9 height.

          “What did you just say?” he asked again hopefully.

         “Nothing. Um, my mind was just playing a prank on me. I thought I scented a lavender and vanilla spray then a voice was saying

something like “mate” in my head. I’m just stressed out. Yes, that’s what it is” I explained mostly to myself, trying to convince myself I was just imagining all these things.

         DEMETRY’S POV

 I just hate school. After stressing myself with practice, I hate to go to school. Just as my friends and I drove into the school, my wolf and I felt uneasy.

         “Are you okay, dude?”, my cousin, Ethan asked and I could see the rest of my friends looking worried.

         “I’m okay guys”, I replied.

         Just as we were about to enter the school, a black BMW drives into the school. A girl got out of the car but I couldn’t see her face because her back was turned towards me. Suddenly, I said the word I thought I would never say earning a happy look from my friends.

         “Mate”

         As I was about to walk up to her, I saw the boy, I think his name is Derik, hug her. I was so angry I think my eyes must have begun to glow. I think she felt me staring at her because she turned around. I immediately hid. She then began to walk into the school with her friends beside her. She kept turning but I hid from her sight. Her friends must have sensed her uneasiness because that Derik wrapped his filthy hands around her waist. She then pecked him. She f*****g peck him. I was going to punch him but Benny and Ethan held me back.

         During lunch period, my friends and I sat at a table a little close to the table Derik was sitting. Then I scented her: lavender mixed with vanilla and a little hint of wildflower. I saw a confused look on her face as she inhaled.

         “can you guys smell that?”, she asked the girls with her.

         “what smell?”, they asked

         “never mind, I thought I smelt lavender and vanilla. I guess I was just imagining the smell”, she said.

         Wait….what???? did she just say she melt lavender and vanilla? But that isn’t possible. She is a human. I could see my friends were just as confused as I was. I snapped out of my thought when I saw her peck that animal, Derik. Her friend, the one with black hair, informed her about our presence. She turned around to see where they were pointing at. The moment she turned, she met my gaze. Oh Moon Goddess, what beautiful blue eyes she has. Her friends were busy pointing us out to her but I felt she was tensed. And that animal held her waist. I gave out a low growl and she instantly turned to look at me indicating she heard the growl. But that was impossible. The growl was so low only a wolf can hear it. There is no way a human can hear it. She leaned on Derik and he kissed her head. I saw her relax in his arms ad that infuriated me. He began to whisper in her ears and she smiled. She leaned up and pecked him. I am sure my angry and jealous stare was burning a hole in her back.

         Towards the last period of the day, I sent Catherine and Bella to talk to her. I didn’t go with them because I was sure that Derik boy was going to be with her. They came back to give me the feedback of their meeting with her. But the part of Derik holding her made my blood boil.

         When it was almost the last period, I made sure everyone left the hall leaving only her there. Catherine said her name was Ariana Moon, I guess. Just as I got behind her, I heard her say a word that made me confused, amused and hopeful.

         “Mate?” she said

         “what did you just say?”, I asked her softly.

         She instantly and faced me. I saw her inhaling my scent and I got a whole lot more confused. Only a wolf can scent his or her mate. But she isn’t a wolf, I would have scented it or a least felt it. Yes, she smelt a little like a wolf but that may be because she has a wolf friend, and besides the scent of Derik was all over her.

         “What did you just say?”, I asked again, hopefully

         “nothing. Um, my mind was just playing a prank on me. I thought I scented a lavender and vanilla spray, i then a voice in my head saying something like mate. I am just stressed. Yes, that’s what it is”, she replied but I could tell she was trying to convince herself.

         I stared at her to take in her sight. She looked like she was 5’9 which made my 6’9 Height easily tower her. Her long curly black hair fell to her back. She had a beautiful blue catlike eye. Her lips were hot pink making it look like she had applied a lip gloss. She had the perfect curve at the right place. She was dressed in a gray crop top and black ripped shorts. She wore a long silver belly ring, a long silver loop earring and a beautiful golden necklace around her beautiful slender neck. Her voice was like music to my ears.

         “um, excuse me but I have to go”. She said and could see a little bit of fear in her eyes which broke my heart. She tried to leave but I held her hand.

         “I promise I won't hurt you. I heard my friends came to welcome you and I felt bad that I didn’t so I came to personally welcome you.”I said to her

         “But I thought you don’t welcome new students” I heard her murmur

         “what did you say?”

         “nothing” she replied instantly. The fear was evident in her face.

         “I’m …” I began to introduce myself

         “Demitry Wolf. Everyone knows you even new students like me”, she interrupted

 This didn’t get me surprised knowing the reputation my friends and I have in Damiton high. Girls and boys drool over us, trying to get us for themselves.

         “well since you know who I am, it will be fair if I know who you are. Arianna Moon right?” I asked

         “Bluemoon”, her angelic voice corrected.

         Bluemoon. That sounds like a pack my father told me he conquered when I was two. But till today the pack remains extinct and the Alpha and Luna are nowhere to be since. He said he attacked the pack at their weakest time. The Luna had just delivered a baby which has made her so weak and her 2-year-old daughter was very sick. Due to the attack, 85 pack members died out of their 200 members including their new baby. The Alpha and his family including his beta’s family fled never to be seen again. There are also rumours that they had a son but no one knows where he is if he is even alive.

         “I was wondering if we could hang out after school?’, I asked hopefully

         “NO” just then the warning bell rang and she practically ran to her next class leaving me hurt.

Arianna’s POV

 It was the end of the day. I was about to leave when I remembered I had forgotten my car key in my locker. I bid my friends goodbye and went back to get it. The school was deserted since it ended 30 minutes ago but my friends and I stayed behind to get extra credit in English.

         After I had retrieved my key, I went back outside and saw that only my car and four other latest Mercedes Benz were left in the parking lot.

 As I made my way to the car, I realized I had two flat tyres.

         “oh s**t. Just great. When I didn’t carry an extra tyre is when I just had to have two flat tyres” I murmured to myself. I got out my phone and was about to call my dad or mom to come and pick me up.

         “is there a problem?”. A concerned and familiar deep voice asked from behind me.

         I turned around with my phone pressed to my ear and I saw the Wolf gang.

         “hello”, my dad answered his call at that moment.

         I turned around backing the wolves. “hi dad. I have a flat tyre. Can you please come to pick me up?” I responded.

         “oh wolf, I’m so sorry. Your mom and I are still stuck at work. Maybe you should call an uber” my dad said with a sad voice.

         “it’s okay dad. I love you” I said

         “love you too wolf,” my dad said before he hung up

         I began to scroll through my phone to call an Uber.

“I could drop you off at your house” Demitrey offered from behind me.

         I turned around totally forgetting he and his friends were there. I smiled and said, “no, it’s fine. I’ll just can an Uber”

         His eyes flashed gold and instantly went back to their regular green colour. I must have been imagining it.

“I’m actually going to pass by your house so I don’t mind dropping you off”, he said with pleading eyes.

“I guess we haven’t introduced ourselves properly that may be the reason you don’t seem to relax around us.” A guy with his arm wrapped around Catherine said

“Hi, I’m benny,” he said

“and I’m Ethan”, a guy with similar jet black hair as Demitrey, friendly and mischievous grin said. I’m sure I’ll like him, I said to myself

“I’m Erik,” a blond who was holding Bella said

“nice to meet you all,” I said with a sincere smile.

Demitrey gave me a sad gaze as if he was jealous of something.

Maybe he needs a hug, the voice in my head said

“what?”, I said out loud

The wolf gang looked confused and Ethan asked, “are you okay?”

“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine” I said, “ I’m just stressed lately, hearing voices in my head. I explained rubbing my golden necklace.

The wolf gang looked totally dismayed.

“ I better get going,” I said to get out of the awkwardness.

“please allow me to drop you off” Demitrey pleaded again

“wassup Wolf” a voice greeted me from behind. I turned around to see my dad’s best friend, Kalton Rain.

“Good afternoon Uncle Kalton.”  I said as I hugged him, “it’s a great surprise to see you here”

“oh, yes. I have a meeting with your principal”, he said. He glanced at the Wolf gang and it was as if he was reading them. I saw Wolf and his friends tense up. “I’ll see you later Wolf,” he said as he kissed my head and walked towards the front office.

“who was that?” Ethan asked

“my dad’s childhood best friend” I replied not catching the hint of uneasiness in their faces.

“Why did he call you Wolf?” this time Benny was the one who asked

I shrugged, “it’s the nickname my dad started calling me since I was two”

The wolves decided to digest this. Demitrey once again offered to drop me off and this time, I agreed. I got into his lack Benz and he drove off with uneasiness in his body language.

“how do u know my house?”, I asked as I snapped out of my thoughts. I realized he got to my house without asking where I lived.

He just shrugged and smiled. Before he could reply, his phone rang and he had to go and attend to important stuff. I thanked him and got out of his car, waved at him and entered my house.
