Chapter Seven : Unscripted Fallout

412 Words
Jesse hadn’t been on camera in years. He preferred the shadows—the hum of the lens, the quiet power of observation. But now the world had seen him. The man behind the camera was suddenly center stage. And not by choice. --- It started with a headline. “ZARA BLAKE’S REAL LOVE REVEALED: Meet Jesse Cruz, The Cameraman Who Stole Her Heart.” Then came the offers. Interviews. Guest spots. Even a panel invite on a late-night show to “discuss modern romance and authenticity in reality TV.” Jesse stared at the email, baffled. He hadn't signed up to be anyone’s heartthrob. And yet, just like that, he was a story now. --- In the hallway of his apartment, he found Zara waiting. She looked tired. Strong. More herself than ever. “You okay?” she asked. Jesse hesitated. “They’re calling me the ‘accidental lead.’ Like I tripped and fell into your arc.” “You didn’t fall,” Zara said softly. “I chose you.” He looked at her, something unspoken sitting heavy between them. “I didn’t mean for the world to see us like that,” she added. “I know,” he said. “But now they have.” A beat. “So what do we do?” she asked. Jesse exhaled. “We decide if we want to keep hiding—or face it together.” --- Later that week, Victoria called Jesse into a private meeting. He almost didn’t show. “You’ve become very popular,” she said, pouring him a drink like they were old friends. “The fans adore your story. Raw. Romantic. Refreshing.” He said nothing. “We’d like to offer you a slot on the spinoff,” she continued. “A docuseries. You and Zara. Off-camera, on your terms. But still… broadcast.” He blinked. “You want to film us… being real?” She smiled. “Authenticity is the new fantasy.” Jesse leaned forward. “You don’t get to profit off us twice.” Victoria tilted her head. “You sure about that? Because the world is watching—and they’re rooting for you now.” --- He told Zara everything that night. She was quiet for a long time. And then she said, “If we do it, it’s our version. No scripts. No fake arcs. Just us.” Jesse reached for her hand. “Then let’s make them watch our truth.”
