The Blue Moon is a popular nightclub in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It’s Friday night and Mia third day of being on vacation. Watching people move to the dancehall music ignited a fire in Mia ready to dance. The bartender placed a drink fruity drink in front of Mia; as she was about to pay the bartender dismissed her action. “Nuh need ih areddi bin paid fah” he stated pointing in the direction of a very handsome man that made Mia mouth water. White U-neck short sleeve shirt, black jeans with white high-top sneakers. As he approaches closer to Mia, she could hardly contain her excitement. I mean can you blame her really; he is a tall glass of chocolate milk.
“Hey, sorry I don’t mean to bother you, but I just had to come over and introduce myself.” He spoke in English, but still has a lingering accent. “Aaron Black,” extending his hand out.
As their hands touch Mia felt a spark shock through her body. “Mia and not at all Aaron; I don’t mind the company” Mia truthfully answered.
“So, you are American. Figured since I never saw you around. But of course, I haven’t been back home in months.”
“You don’t live in Montego Bay anymore? Or did you move to another part of Jamaica? You barely have an accent, but I can tell your born raised Jamaican.”
“I moved to California during my high school education with my aunt and uncle. Just wait a month and you’ll hear the Patwah come out.” Mia couldn’t help but admire his dashing smile.
“Whose to say I will see you again?” Taking a sip of my drink that had a fresh fruit taste of mango.
“I know so; because I refuse to let a beautiful woman like yourself leave my sight.” Mia blushed at the comment.
“I’m sure you say that to all the girls.”
“Maybe but you are the first to have me tongue tied and nervous.” His face gotten closer to mine; we just stared into each other eyes. The s****l tension was epic in intensity. Mia isn’t the type to have a one-night stand, but she is willing to change her morals.
“Boss! Yuh needed at di office!” The bartender shouted over the music.
“Boss?” Mia questioned.
“My uncle is the owner; people just call me that around here because I do their balance books.”
Mia was impressed by how well he is respected; “Being the boss nephew must have it perks.”
“I mean I got the chance to meet you Mia.” A blush reappears on Mia face again. “Have to go see what they need. Mind waiting for me after closing, I can drive you home.”
“Sounds good, I’ll wait for you.”
You would think this meeting was a match made in heaven. It was for a summer love. Not knowing what would happen in the next few months, Mia would have loved the future update. Her present moment was standing right in front of her, in her now empty classroom, door closed, only herself and Aaron Black. The same Aaron Black she met at the Blue Moon nightclub; Aaron was in high school as well her student. That sentence kept repeating in her head until she finally snapped.
“YOU’RE A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT!” Mia shouted at the top of her lungs. The utter embarrassment she is feeling from that very awkward interaction earlier in the morning. I mean a man she saw naked is still in high school.
All these random thoughts were nothing in comparison to a repeated word that is invading her thought process. Statutory r**e, major jail time, statutory r**e, I could loss my job, my family will think so little of me, statutory r**e.
“I committed statutory r**e! I could go to jail!”
“Still feisty as ever Mia.”
“That’s Ms. Davis to my students. I should have asked more questions! You said you was in college!” Thinking back to their first encounter, Mia was so focus on this young man appearance rather than his age. Figures that if she meets a man at the bar, he would be old enough to drink.
“Never said I was a student; be that as it may I am taking college courses at UCLA. I never lied to you Mia about my age, we just never got into topic on it. To be fair you look young for your age and thought you was maybe twenty-one.”
“Wrong I asked your age! Too busy trying to get in my pants to hear me! This is bad, really bad, what am I to do?” Thoughts of jail time filled Mia head again with worry.
“Calm down Mia. If you bring attention to us, then we will get caught. Listen I am sorry this happen. But I am not sorry I got to see you again.” As he got closer to me, I could smell his signature lotion and body soap. God, he smelled heavenly. But this was no longer the man she met at Jamaica. This was a young student high school student, her student. Controlling her hormones and emotions Mia stepped away from Aaron.
“Ms. Davis. Aaron, you are a sweet guy that any woman would be lucky to have. I just can’t be her.”
“Why does it feel like your breaking up with me?” Aaron question noticing Mia eyes brim with tears ready to fall.
“We are,” silence between the two Mia exit bidding goodbye to her ex-lover. “See you in class tomorrow.” Now alone to think about what just happen. As serious Mia was about the situation, Aaron was not yet ready to call it quits.
Back home exhausted, Mia took off her shoes at the front door and collapse on the living room couch. What a day she thought; irritated about her love life and how it’s just a huge mess. Mia closed her eyes to have a moment of peace. Quiet thoughts roam as she figured out the best way to handle Aaron. Choosing that high school location because it was closer to home, was the best option. Damn it all to hell. Really doesn’t know what to do anymore. Not wanting to stress further, Mia stripped out of her clothes; taking a quick shower. Washing away the heart ache, dried off and lay in bed naked. Mia slept in peace, having dreams of her time in Jamaica.
