The Scorpion in Need

731 Words
One day, I visited my grandmother in the Province. She was living alone there since my grandfather passed away a few months ago. She would say she's fine every time we talked through the phone but I know that she's been feeling sad and depressed so I decided to pay her a visit. She was so happy to see me that she wished if I could stay for a bit longer, so I did. The next day, the sun was shining bright and as I appreciate the light rays with my eyes, I saw the river it's shinning on. Near it is a place that looks like a good spot for a picnic so an idea beamed into my mind. Afterwards, I reached the river. My grandmother was still in the house because she was still filling the picnic basket with food. The water was crystal clear and I couldn't wait any longer, I dipped my foot on the water and felt that the river wasn't that deep so I stand on it. The water only reached up to the level of my knees. I was enjoying the water when I heard something calling me. "Pssst!! Pssst!!" I jumped a bit, I look around and my grandmother was nowhere to be seen. That couldn't be her, she's still at the house, packing... Right? I was about to shrugged it off when I heard it again. "Pssst!! Hey you! Pssst!!" I froze on my spot in horror. "Oh god, the spirits of this place must be messing with me because I played on their river. I can hear them calling me out." "Don't worry, I 'm not the spirits." I looked at the other side of the river and my eyes almost popped out when the voice was coming from a scorpion. A Scorpion!!!! "Hey-hey-hey, before you passed out or anything, I want you to know that I'm not some kind of a monster or alien that will curse you or something. I just want to cross the river and It seems like you're the only option for help, so please, could you help me?" The scorpion, if it is a scorpion, plead at me. I'm still shocked from everything that took place right now but my trust issues were gaining the best of me. "H–How do I know you won't try to kill me while we're crossing the river?" "Because I won't! And besides, that would be stupid cause I would die too in the Process." I was still hesitant. "Okay...How do I know you won't just wait till we get to the other side and THEN kill me?!" "Well...because your so kind to help me cross the river, wouldn't it be so vicious of me to just kill you after? Would it?" The scorpion pointed out, which actually IS true... hmmmm....... "Alright...hop on in." I gestured it to cling on my shoulder and it gladly did. The fact that the current wasn't that strong makes it easier for me to cross the river. "We're almost there." I said as I saw that the other side was an arm span away. As soon as we arrived, I bend my left leg to kneel for the scorpion to climb down. When I noticed that it wasn't moving on it's place, I glanced on my shoulder and as soon as my eyes landed on the scorpion, I saw it's stinger injected on my skin. Before I can move it, my vision starts blurring and my body wobbled down on the ground. "Y–you...you said–d,you said...you w–wouldn't..." The scorpion looked at me in my eyes "Sorry, you we're really nice. Really. It's just that... I couldn't help myself. It's my nature." A wicked smile slowly appeared on the scorpion's face. "Oh... such a foolish human." And off it goes. As the vision of my surrounding slowly begins to go dark, I heard the faint voice of the sweetest human being I ever known screaming my name and a pair of legs running towards me. I felt a pair of arms wrap around me and drops of water falling on the side of my face. Even one of the drops went to my mouth. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a rain drop. Rain drops don't taste salty... "P–please...not you too..." In a blink, everything went pitch-black.
