Jade Space

1071 Words
I found myself standing on a cliff. The warm sunshine and the fresh spring breeze greeted me as I looked at the endless green land. The deep waters below the cliff reflected the clear blue sky. It feels as if I'm in paradise. Growing up in a tropical country, seeing waterfalls and greenery made me immune to the wonders of nature. But I have never seen anything as breathtaking as the place I'm in today. I could feel the vibration of energy around me, which was very pure and full of vitality. As a fictional writer, I am well-informed about story characters who possess systems and plantable spaces. "Am I one of them?" I closed my eyes and savored the taste of freedom and peace. "Indeed!" I am fortunate to have a space at the end of the world. I do not know if humans will also develop superpowers. Having a space is enough to comfort me. I need to hurry now and store all the things I have at home, especially the relics of my family. But I still can't believe that I have been genuinely orphaned for three years now. I went out of the jade space and hurriedly emptied the house. I can pile everything in first and arrange it when I reach the farmhouse later. Sweat dripped on my forehead. "It's good to be alive!" I finished moving everything by 2:00 PM. The empty house made me feel so nostalgic about leaving. But this place was no longer safe. There were so many houses in the neighborhood, and a zombie mass rampage was possible to occur. I couldn't stay here and wait to be trapped in a disaster. I believe every event that comes into our life has a purpose. My arrival in this world might not have been an accident. It was predetermined by fate. God must have wanted me to experience the apocalypse in advance for a reason that concerned the development of Earth's future. I will never think of myself as the world's heroine. Against billions of people, I am only an ant in a colony and an individual who can do little things to influence other people's destinies. All of us have free will, a pen that can change the course of our lives in every second that we make decisions. "Fate has so many wonders..." I sighed and walked out of the house. It takes twenty minutes to get to the farmhouse. If the road is blocked, I need to reroute and use another road, which will take me an hour before reaching my destination. I got into the driver's seat and glanced one last time at the main house where I grew up. My grandparents built this house when they got married. My grandmother cared for the house and kept it well-maintained until she passed away. Truth be told, it would be hard for me to accept her being gone if I were on Earth, even if I knew that giving birth, growth, old age, and death are a natural cycle. I took a deep breath and opened the gate using the remote control. The sound of the creaking metal alerted some of the zombies. I did not hesitate and rushed to drive the car, hitting some of the wandering zombies. Fictional books that described them as having delayed movements were real. Maybe because a virus attaching itself to a person's DNA ain't alive or dead in nature. And this theory gave me a little bit of confidence to escape danger. Some of the zombies banged themselves on the doors of my car, and thankfully, my father loved upgrading and customizing cars. The height of what I was driving could enable me to pass a waist-deep flood, so I wasn't concerned about zombies breaking the glass windows. I kept driving as fast as I could to reach the main highway. Looking around, I saw empty streets and burning establishments. I was thinking hard about how I could gather supplies from abandoned stores. Unfortunately, being alone wasn't the best idea. I could possibly meet a hoard of zombies or dangerous men who only greed for their desires. The end of the world isn't a place for women, children, and the weak. Laws and morality no longer exist, just like the way of surviving in a deadly jungle. The strong stay on top of the chain, and the weak will only choose three ends, one being used by others, the second is slavery, and the third is death. The road I took was luckily unblocked. There were a few abandoned or destroyed cars on the way. Some of those cars might have been caught in an accident while the world started the apocalypse era. The journey was smooth. I opened the gate that enclosed the farm. The weeds have grown so tall. I haven't been to this farm since the original body collapsed. I could see some animals running not far away. My car entered, and the gate closed behind me automatically. Several CCTV cameras were monitored around the area, and the electricity was fueled using solar energy. I parked the car in the empty parking spot. I held a gun before going out. There was no one here, which is clear, but I can't be sure that no animals mutated like zombies. I walked around the area to check for signs of breaching, but I found nothing. I also took the time to inspect the rabbits, cows, and chickens in the yard. Thankfully, no one mutated into a zombie. But they have grown bigger than ordinary. I wiped the sweat on my forehead. The bright sun was burning so bright that I feared the pond water wouldn't last long. "I need to check the house..." The smell of faint lavender enveloped the room as I opened the door. Lavender was my father's favorite scent. He used it in his car and in our house. The floor was spotless. I guess intruders might have skipped barging into the farm since it was an exclusive property bound by heavy rumors of a white lady showing up late at night. An average person would get scared and have a lot of thoughts when they first hear haunted stories. I also remember my grandma initiating a family reunion, including several families of her brothers and sisters, but when they heard of the venue they got scared.
