Chapter Eight
The next morning, John and Tara set off with Sitarist, a local guide, to visit the ancient city of Ayutthaya. It was a trip John had pre-arranged from home.
The journey started with a two-hour train ride which passed through the countryside before a short ferry ride took them to the city. The massive ruins were spread out through the jungle, intertwined with trees and vines.
“This is the country’s top tourist destination outside of Bangkok,” Sitarist told them. “It was once known as the largest city in the world.”
After several hours exploring the ruins, John and Tara left and returned to Bangkok, exhausted by the heat and humidity.
Once they’d arrived back in their hotel room, they toed off their shoes and lay on the bed.
“Well, it’s been an incredible day.” Tara sighe
