"That can't be true," I told myself.
I didn’t want to fall into the illusion that Kael loved me or that I loved him, too.
I kept thinking about different things until I dozed off.
But not for long.
Screams from the other room jolted me awake.
This was why I hated hospitals. People came here to be saved, but people also died here.
Someone had been unfortunate enough to be involved in a hit-and-run down the street.
The accident was fatal. Everyone thought she was dead, but miraculously, they found a pulse.
She was rushed to the hospital in hopes of saving her life.
Unfortunately, she didn’t make it.
Her mother’s wails echoed through the hospital halls when she received the heartbreaking news.
I felt terrible for her. She had to bury her only child.
