Darkness!! Not the kind that comes when the sun sets gently beyond the horizon, but something deeper and alive. It was all over Sphesihle’s skin, entered her lungs, and settled behind her eyes like a silent enemy waiting to strike, She woke up to it. A sharp sting shot through her wrists as she instinctively moved. Rough rope dug into her skin, binding her tightly to a chair. Her ankles were restrained too, cutting off any hope of escape. The blindfold over her eyes sealed her in a world without form, without direction, without hope. For a moment, she didn’t breathe, Then panic hit.Her chest tightened violently as realization filled her mind. She had been taken. “Help!” Her voice tore through the silence, raw and desperate. “Is anyone there? Please, help me!” Nothing answered not a footstep, not even a whisper.Only the echo of her own fear. Her breathing quickened, uneven and shallow. Every sound she made seemed too loud in the suffocating stillness. Her heart pounded so hard it felt like it might break free from her chest. Think… think… But her thoughts refused to obey. They scattered, colliding with fear, with dread, with the growing certainty that no one was coming. Tears flowed beneath her blindfold, warm trails of the tears against her cold skin.Is this how my life ends? Her lips trembled. “Oh, Mom…” she whispered, her voice barely holding together. “I wish I had found you sooner… before this.” A shaky breath escaped her.“Maybe… maybe we’ll meet in the afterlife.”The darkness did not respond. But somewhere far away...Something stirred. Joyous couldn’t think properly. The unease was eating her up. her thoughts began to turn against her that she is the one at fault for not following Sphesihle after their conversation, something she tried to ignore. But now it had grown into a storm, raging beneath her skin. Sphesihle hadn’t come home.At first, she reasoned with herself. She’s with Thato. She just needed space. After all, their argument the night before had been… intense.Too intense.Joyous clenched her hands tightly.“I shouldn’t have let her go alone…”The words tasted bitter. Without wasting another moment, she stepped out into the morning air and made her way toward Thato’s house. The walk, usually short and familiar, felt painfully long. Every passing second tightened the knot in her chest. When she finally reached the gate, she didn’t hesitate. “Thato!” Her voice rang out sharply. She waited.but no one answered. Her grip tightened around the gate as she called again.“Thato!”Still nothing. The silence felt wrong. like she wasn't going to find what she was looking for. Her fingers trembled as she pushed against the gate, it didn’t budge.the gate was locked. That was when fear truly took hold.A cold realization settled deep in her bones.Sphesihle wasn’t just missing.Something had happened. And if something had happened...Joyous felt her stomach drop. The memory of the agreement… the curse… coiled around her like a serpent tightening its grip. “If she’s gone…” she whispered, her voice breaking, “then I’m already dead.”Desperation surged within her thoughts. “Thato! Thato!” Her voice cracked under the strain. But no one came out, the doors didn't open, No footsteps approached her. Slowly, reluctantly, she stepped back. Then she turned away. Each step felt heavier than the last. Until..She collided with someone.“Thato!” Relief exploded through her as she grabbed him, her hands clutching onto his clothes as though he might disappear if she let go. “I went to your house, no one answered,” she said quickly, her breath uneven. “Is Sphesihle with you?” Thato blinked, confusion flashing across his face before shifting into concern.“No, Ma… I haven’t seen her.”The world seemed to shrink.Joyous’ grip tightened.“…Then she’s in danger.”The words fell like a death sentence.Thato’s expression hardened instantly.“Then we don’t waste time,” he said firmly. “We find her.” The moment they stepped into the house, the atmosphere changed on another level. It was subtle at first, but undeniable. “Joyous.”The voice did not belong to Joyous's husband who was standing before them.It echoed unnaturally, layered with something ancient… something powerful. Joyous fell into her knees within an instant. Thato followed without hesitation nor questioning.“Yes… my Queen.” Joyous’ husband stood before them, but he was no longer himself. His body hovered slightly above the ground. His eyes.. were filled with emptiness. The presence within him was unmistakable. The Mamba Queen Mother had arrived.“Where have you been?” she asked calmly.Too calmly.Joyous’ throat tightened.“I… I was”“You don’t seem as afraid as usual,” the Queen interrupted, her gaze sharpening. “Are you hiding something from me?” Silence was in the room, it was intense and mixed with fear and desperation.“Where… is my child?”Joyous couldn’t speak.Fear was locked in her voice.“Answer me.” but she couldn't answer. The temperature in the room seemed to drop. The Queen’s gaze shifted slowly to Thato.“You.”His heart slammed against his ribs as she drifted closer, her presence suffocating.“Speak,” she whispered. He swallowed hard.“Before I destroy you… tell me where my daughter is.”He hesitated for a second.Pain was all over his face as the slap from Sphesihle’s mother echoed like thunder. “I thought you loved her,” the Queen hissed, her voice now laced with fury. “And yet she disappears under your watch?” Her gaze snapped back to Joyous.“And you… why should I let you live?” Joyous collapsed fully, tears spilling freely. “My Queen… I failed. But I swear I will find her. No matter where she is.”A long pause followed. “You will,” the Queen said coldly. “Or you will join her in death.”And just like that She was gone.Joyous’ husband collapsed to the ground, gasping as life returned to his body. There was no time to waste.Thato stepped forward, determination burning in his eyes. “I’ll find her.”He sat down, closing his eyes. The world faded..His breathing slowed. Memory became his guide.. every moment he had shared with Sphesihle, every laugh, every glance, every touch. And he finally found her. she was surrounded by darkness, she was blindfolded, But she was alive, relief flooded him.Sphesihle felt him, she could feel his presence. And then She stepped out of her body. “Thato…” Her voice reached him, soft but filled with emotion. “You found me.” “We’ve been worried,” he said gently. “Your mother… she’s furious.” Sphesihle let out a faint breath. “I can imagine.” Then his expression shifted. “We don’t have much time.” She raised a brow. “What are you thinking?” He stepped closer. “Remember the bond we created?” She rolled her eyes slightly. “Hard to forget.” “We do it again. Here. Now.”Understanding flickered in her eyes. Then determination, they reached for each other. Their hands met and warmth spread instantly. They both closed their eyes and then, their souls ignited. Fire roared to life, lightning cracked through the void and the two forces clashed and then merged. In the physical world Sphesihle’s body lifted slowly into the air. The ropes snapped. A surge of energy exploded outward, shaking the very space around her and the blindfold fell away. Her eyes opened, and they burned. One eye blazed like fire. The other crackled with lightning.Power surged through her veins like a storm unleashed. And in that moment, She was no longer a victim. Thato gasped, snapping back into his body. His eyes flew open.“She’s alive!” he shouted, breathless. “And she’s coming back!”Hope filled the room. But far away, Something else stirred.Because the ones who took her. Had just awakened something they could never control.
