EPISODE 1 : VRYKOLAKAS

2115 Words
Selene, the town's best detective stood in front of a dead body whose skin was as pale as snow and body as scrawny as a vegetable. Selene was used to seeing such a scene, she was trained for it but the site of the victim was horrifying that even the bravest of man would coward away. Following protocol, she didn't touch the body nor move it but instead she called for backup and began inspecting this poor man. She noticed bite marks all over him. Could it be an animal? She thought. She began writing notes and details one her note pad which he carries around everywhere she goes. Selene likes being prepared for anything. She could not handle a situation is she were unprepared as that would disrupt order and to Selene, order was important in her work as that was the only thing that she could control in her life. She then noticed a skull tattoo with a weir design on it which he felt like she has seen multiple times before in this town. Before she could move closer to inspect it, Selene was pulled into a dark valley ride at the corner by a stranger's hand. She nearly tripped on her heels and in shock, she almost let out a loud scream but a hand clasped over her mouth. She was pulled into an embrace with her back on a stranger's hard rock chest. One of this man's hand circled around her waist and the other was still on her mouth. Selene began to struggle in his grasp although he was quite gentle with his touch.  Footsteps of drunk men were heard as they were approaching them. The man that held Selene oh so very intimately bent to Selene's ear and with his dark and alluring voice, he whispered "Silent little one," He's voice sent shivers down Selene's spine as she obeyed immediately and kept still. They both heard voices of whispering men. "Isn't this Oven? What happened to him?" One man said. "Looks pretty dead to me,” Another said. "We should leave. He's dead and we can't be seen with a dead body like this," The first guy said again. The others nodded their heads in agreement and walked back the direction they came in. Selene then remembered that the skull tattoo had to mean he was part of a gang and she almost forgot that he was still in this man's embrace. She pushed herself of him and wanted to face him but her steps faltered and she tripped, falling with a loud crash. The man stood there and stared at her disapprovingly for her actions but before she could look up to see his face, the other men's footsteps stopped. "Leon, I think someone is in the alley," They heard those men say and both their head jerked to the entrance of the alley as the group of men approached them. 3 men stood in front of them all built and Selene noticed they had knives hidden in their boots. Before they could do anything, the man that was with Selene, grabbed one of them by his neck and he just threw him to the other side of the road like the man weighed nothing. The other two guys stared at the man in fear and decided the best thing to do was get out of there but then the police sirens were heard. The backup Selene called has arrived and they blocked the exit of the 2 guys whose faces became pale. When Selene looked to the front of her to thank the man for saving her, he was not there. It’s like he disappeared without a trace. One of Selene's colleagues came rushing to her while others arrested the 3 guys who tried to attack them. Her colleague pulled her up and insisted that Selene go home and rest but she was stubborn and wanted to stay and help until her phone began to ring. She picked up the call and walked to the side as soon as she saw her mom’s name pop out on her phone screen. “Mom?” She asked in a straightest voice she could muster up now given the circumstances of her earlier encounter. “Selene please come back home. We need to talk,” Her mother said. Knowing there was no possible way she would win in an argument with her mother, she decided to follow her colleague’s advice and go home. “Alright, mom. I will be there shortly,” Selene said before turning off the call not wanting to hear how her mother treats her like a dog by saying “good girl”. It really annoyed Selene to be called as such. She went to her colleague. “Deena, I’ll be heading home now. You sure you don’t need my help?” Selene asked desperate to stay away from her mother’s lecture. “No. The only thing you should do is get some rest and come to the station tomorrow to give your report,” Deena said as she pushed Selene towards her car. As Selene was driving home, many thoughts clouded her head. Who was that mysterious man she thought. She wanted to know so she could thank him or repair him or something but this was something she could never do now. She doesn’t even know how he looked like. The only thing she does know is what she felt, his built stature and muscular body, his large pale hands that were wrapped around her ad his husky voice that made her week in the knees. She damned herself for loosing balance like a clumsy person which she usually isn’t. There was something about him that kept her craving to feel his touch again. She craved to his face. By the time she knew it, she reached the front of her two-storey house which has been in her family for years, passed from generation to generation. Being the only child, this house, her home will be hers someday. Selene made so much memories here especially with her father. He passed away 5 years ago peacefully on his deathbed. He was quite old compared to her mother. Her mom was merely 23 when she got married to Selene’s 35 year old father but to them age was just a number. Their marriage was arranged like Selene’s would be someday but her parents discovered love after marriage and having her brought them even closer. Selene hope she would have that kind of love someday. She was forbidden to date a man as she would be promised to someone of her parents’ choosing one day. This rule was made to avoid any broken heart and promises. Selene respected that because her parents have never controlled any other aspects of her life. Selene parked her car and walked to the front door. As she entered, she hung her coat and walked to the living room. Her mother appeared from the dining room. Selene’s mother, Estrella was indeed a beautiful woman even in her 50’s with her beautiful blonde hair, honey eyes and her petite figure. Some would say that Selene was a clone of her mother and other would even say that the whole generation of girls in the family has always looked very similar. “Dear, come. We will eat while we discuss your future,” Her mother said before disappearing into the walls of the dining rom. Selene knew this day would come yet she never felt so unprepared for it. She took a seat opposite her mother and they said grace before they began eating the delicious food her mother had made. “Selene, I have started looking for a groom for you,” Her mother said and awaited her daughter’s answer. Selene simply finished munching on her food and looked upon her mother’s face. “Okay, mom. I knew this day would come. There is so need for me to make a fuss,” Selene said trying to be the mature, grown woman she is. “I am glad to hear that. I will make sure that my daughter finds the best man as you deserve no less than that, dear,” Her mother said as she fought to hold back her tears of sadness of giving her daughter away and tears of joy that her daughter will get married soon. “I only wish your father was here to see you walk down the aisle,” her mother said as one lone tear fell from her slender eyes. “I wish that to mom but I believe that he is indeed watching over us from the heavens,” Selene said as she took her mom’s hands in hers. The next day, Selene woke up from her bed in cold sweat as she dreamt of the mysterious man that has unconsciously took a piece of her heart. She didn’t recognize this foreign feeling as brushed it off as dream and nothing more. She showered, dressed up and went to her office bright and early in the cold morning. She arrived and went to the desk to start writing her report on yesterday’s events that had seemed quite of a blur to her. She merely wrote down what was fond in her memory and filed it in. “Deena, did you get anything from the murder yesterday yet?” Selene asked eagerly to solve this case. There has never been such a gruesome murder in years. “Body was sent for autopsy. We’re waiting for the results,” Deena said as she flipped through paperwork. “The bite marks on his body were so unusual,” Selene said as she went through the pictures taken of the scene. “I agree with you. They were kind of like fang marks,” Deena said. “Could have been a snake, spiders, vampire bats but it still doesn’t seem to fit the picture,” Selene said as she crunched her eyebrows. “Well, you just take it easy for now until the results are in, missy,” Deena says as she munched on her donut. Selene eyed her and smirked. “Seriously, a donut for breakfast?” Selene asked. “Her most stereotypes are true. We cops love our donuts,” Deena replies with muffled sounds of her chewing. Selene rolled her eyes and went to her desk to do her work. >  In the shadows of Selene’s house he lurked. Creeping up the rood of her home in his black suit which never appeared crumpled. He swiftly climbed up house and hid ear the open windows of Estrella’s room. Estrella was busy sitting at her desk, searching for the perfect man for her daughter. He couldn’t help but to listen in on her conversation on the phone. “Hi Jessie. I have decided it’s time to look for Selene a husband,” Estrella said on the phone. This peaked up his attention and he listened closer. “Nothing less for my daughter. A handsome, tailored young man with enough money to make them both happy,” Estrella continued over the phone. Upon hearing the name, Selene, he almost lost his balance but brushed it off. Could it be, he thought. That thought of his was impossible yet again he was the impossible. At the moment he knew he had to have her. She was going to be his to marry, his to keep, his to play and no one could stand in his way or they would surely die like the death of the young man the day before. He could not forget the image of the young Selene, excruciatingly painful, he felt as he looked upon her. She was definitely not her but she looked so similar, they could as well be sisters. He craved her, he was determined to have her at any cost. Her innocence made him even fonder of her. She was like a rose with thorns. The thorns represent the walls that she had built up. She was hard to lure but easy once caught. He scrambled home in a nick of time and he proceeded to his office. Grabbing his cellphone, he dialed the number he had seen on Estrella’s notebook and called it immediately. He didn’t want anyone else to have his rose, his moon. “Hello, Mrs. Asteria speaking,” Estrella said through the phone. Upon hearing their family name, he wanted to fall onto his knees. It could not be true he thought. Could she be of the same blood? “Umm…Hello?” Estrella asked again upon receiving no reply. He snapped out of it. “Good morning, Mrs. Asteria. I am calling to request the hand in marriage of your daughter, Selene,” He says still trying to recompose himself. “May I know your name, sir?” Estrella asked curiously. He smirked and replied “Vrykolakas, Ambrogio Vrykolakas,” Who is Ambrogio Vrykolakas? Why does he want to marry Selene? Continue reading to find out!  Support my book!!
