# distance and doubts

685 Words
The following days were some of the hardest Emily had ever experienced. Jack’s words stayed with her, replaying in her mind like a broken record. She wanted to believe him—that what they shared was real and worth fighting for—but the reality of his life loomed large over her. She decided to take a step back, hoping that some space would help her clear her head. She stopped checking her email every five minutes and focused on her sketches instead. Her art had always been her escape, and now more than ever, she needed it. But even as she poured her heart into her work, Jack was never far from her thoughts. --- One evening, as Emily worked on a new painting, her mom knocked on her door. “You’ve been awfully quiet lately,” her mom said, stepping into the room. “Is everything okay?” Emily hesitated, her brush hovering over the canvas. “I’m fine. Just… a lot on my mind.” Her mom sat on the edge of the bed, watching her for a moment. “Does this have anything to do with that concert you went to?” Emily froze. “Why would you think that?” “You came back different, Emily. Happier at first, but now… I don’t know. It’s like something’s weighing on you.” Emily sighed, setting her brush down. “It’s complicated, Mom. I met someone… someone amazing. But it feels impossible, like we’re from two different worlds.” Her mom gave her a sympathetic smile. “Love isn’t supposed to be easy, honey. But the right person will find a way to make it work. You just have to decide if it’s worth the risk.” Her mom’s words stayed with her long after she left the room. Was Jack worth the risk? --- A week later, Emily finally opened her email again. As expected, there were several messages from Jack, each one more heartfelt than the last. Emily, I haven’t heard from you in a while, and I’m starting to worry. Did I do something wrong? Please tell me what you’re thinking. I miss talking to you. Her heart ached as she read his words. She had tried to protect herself by creating distance, but it was clear Jack was hurting too. She clicked “Reply” and began typing. Hi Jack, I’m sorry I’ve been distant. I just needed some time to think. This… whatever we have… it’s amazing, but it’s also scary. Your world is so different from mine, and I don’t know if I’m strong enough to handle it. Emily She sent the email, her chest tightening as she waited for a response. --- Jack replied within an hour. Emily, I get it. I really do. My world can be overwhelming, and I hate that it’s made you doubt us. But I don’t care about the spotlight or the fame—I care about you. I know it’s not going to be easy, but I’m willing to fight for this if you are. Jack Emily stared at the screen, tears blurring her vision. She could feel the sincerity in his words, the determination to make this work despite the odds. For the first time in weeks, she allowed herself to hope. --- That weekend, Emily decided to take a leap of faith. She emailed Jack and told him she was ready to talk, ready to figure out where they stood. To her surprise, he called her later that night. Hearing his voice again was like a balm to her soul. “I’ve missed you,” he said, his tone warm and genuine. “I’ve missed you too,” Emily admitted. They talked for hours, their connection stronger than ever. Jack promised to be honest with her, to include her in his world instead of shutting her out. And Emily promised to trust him, even when things felt uncertain. By the time they hung up, Emily felt a flicker of hope reignite in her heart. Maybe, just maybe, they could find a way to make this work. ---
