Chapter 2

Cassandra’s POV Saturday morning, I stayed at Jacob's family house. Soon, we will live there while I am continuing my college. I'm still finishing my business course at the university. And Jacob was already working for his parent's company. He's five years older than me. Since it's summer, I have one month of vacation. My in-laws told me we had a choice about whether Jacob and I would spend more time on our honeymoon. Jacob decided to stay in the villa for two weeks, and I agreed. I woke up late in the morning, and Jacob left me in bed. I heard an irritating noise from the extension of his room. Maybe Jacob was there and preparing his stuff to bring to the villa. I stood and went to the extension of the room. My feet were nailed on the ground as I caught Jacob cleaning a gun! "Hey! Is that a real gun?" I asked exaggeratedly. Jacob winched in surprise. He faced me with a sharp gaze. "Do you know how to knock on the door?" he asked sternly. "Sorry, I-I'm just curious." He inhaled and lowered his gaze to the gun he held. "Yeah, it's real," he said. My eyes widened in surprise. Panic attacks me, thinking that Jacob is planning something dangerous. "W-What are you planning to do? Don't tell me you will bring that gun into the villa!" "I need this. And don't worry, this gun has a license." I took a deep breath as nervousness struck me. "Why should you bring that one? We're not going to hunt anything in the forest!" "The place we're going to stay is in the middle of the forest. Although there are neighbors there, we expect to encounter animals." "Then, I'll ask your parents to change the location." "No! I want to stay in the villa." "You meant it?" "Yeah." "Weird." I shrugged. "Go pack your things, and we will leave after lunch." I sighed and went outside. While taking a shower, I realized that Jacob was a gentleman despite his coldness sometimes. We had slept together in one bed for two nights, and he didn't try to touch me even though we had talked about s*x. Lately, Jacob talks less, and only if I have something to ask. Maybe he was teasing me if I lowered my guard and allowed him to touch me. He doesn't even hold my hands or my hair. If he continues acting like that, I wonder if we will last. Loving him was impossible, yet I wanted an assurance that he would value my worth as a woman. I knew I would someday ask for a serious relationship and have a child. I knew myself better and how I managed my feelings towards guys. I am easily attracted to an ideal guy who is kind and knows how to care for a woman, like my ex-boyfriend Sandro, yet he's now married to a woman he loves. I knew Sandro didn't love me as I did, and I accepted that fact. We started with a friend, and I offered my arms to comfort him when the girl he loved left to study in England. As I openly faced myself in the mirror, I kept on asking why guys couldn't love me genuinely and they preferred to love me as a friend. My beauty was generic and not attractive, and my friend Jenny told me I was not girlfriend material. My almond-brown eyes turned dark in sadness. I was different from my sisters. I got my resemblance from my mother, who was an American-Spanish. My sisters all had blue eyes and straight blonde hair like my father. While me, I had mahogany brown wavy hair. Also, my skin is a bit darker than theirs. Even my average height was five feet and five inches, skinny. My appearance has never been an issue for me. I love who I am. I dried my shoulder-length hair with a blower. After getting dressed, I went to the kitchen, and my mother-in-law was there. She is having breakfast. "Oh, dear! Come here and eat," Melinda said. I pulled the chair across from Melinda and sat down. She offered me pancakes. "Thank you," I said. I need to know more about the Andersons better. But Mommy said they are kind. Melinda looks like a nice person, especially her husband, Sir Leo. They warmly welcomed me into their family. "Do not be shy. This is your home now, so train yourself to be comfortable here," said Melinda, smiling broadly. I smiled at her and took two pancakes. I topped it with honey syrup. While eating, I just thought Jacob mentioned that he was the one who wanted them to have a honeymoon in the villa. After all, it wasn't his parents who made the decision. And I want to confirm it with his mother. "Uh, aunt... did you decide that Jacob and I will have our honeymoon at the villa?" I didn't hesitate to ask her. Melinda grinned. "Please, call me mommy now," she said. "Sorry. I'm not used to it yet," I said reticently. My cheek heated up. "It's okay; I understand you. It's normal to feel timid the first time leaving with your husband's family." Melinda tapped my right arm. "And about your question, the truth is, Jacob is the one who wants to have a vacation at the villa. Besides not wanting to spend more money, he also missed the place. He was sixteen the last time he visited the villa." I nodded to consider the fact. "But is it safe there?" "Of course, and that place is very romantic. Whenever I'm stressed at work, I go there to relax." I took a bite of a little pancake. I often go with my classmates to a picnic, so I know how beautiful the countryside is. "Whose is the villa?" I curiously asked. "It was my father's and passed down to me. Since I'm already busy, I gave it to Jacob." "Is it okay to know what happened to your parents?" Sadness showed on Melinda's face, heaving a deep sigh. "My mother died of a heart attack after hearing about what happened to my father. The night my father was left at the villa, a wild animal attacked him. He was dead on arrival at the hospital," she said coldly. Something pinched my heart because of Melinda's sad story. I was also suddenly enslaved by fear; maybe it was true what Jacob said: there are many wild animals in the province. "Isn't it dangerous if Jacob and I stayed at the villa?" I asked anxiously. "It's safe there because many people are living there now. Don't worry; I fixed the villa the other day. I also turned on the electricity and water there." I felt relief, insisting that my situation wasn't in the thriller movie where the characters having a vacation in a remote area, and the beast attacked them. Silly thought. "All right, Jacob is with me, so I have to trust him," I said, smirking. Melinda just smiled and continued eating. After breakfast, I packed my things. Jacob had already packed his things but wasn't in the room. His suitcase was locked, so I couldn't open it to find out if he had brought the gun. I can't explain what I felt at the moment. It felt like nervousness and excitement mixed in my heart. I don't expect that Jacob will stand by our honeymoon. Maybe he's just going on vacation because he said he hasn't been able to take a break from work for a long time. After lunch, Jacob and I left for a trip, just the two of us. He drives the car. We also brought food to cook, snacks, and other things we needed that were hard to find in the province. "How long until we get to the villa?" I asked Jacob, which broke the silence. I just sat next to him. I don't know if he heard me because he was wearing earphones. He didn't seem to have heard anything, so I didn't bother him. I just closed my eyes. I fell asleep on the trip. When I woke up, the car stopped at the gasoline station. The vehicle is loaded with gas, and Jacob is talking to a fat man outside. "Where are we?" I asked Jacob as he entered. "We're entering the town," he simply replied. He then moved the car forward. I looked at my cell phone. We have been traveling for three hours already. The sun is going down; it's five in the afternoon. "We're here in the village," said Jacob. He stopped the car in front of a convenience store. "Are you going to buy something?" he asked me. "Uh, I'll see if there is something important to buy," I replied. I opened the door and went out. I followed Jacob inside the store. There were only a few people there, very different from the store in the city. There are also a few products on display. Even the clothes of the people are less modern than the people in the town. I wanted something to drink, so I went to the backside refrigerator. I was looking for canned juices when I noticed the man standing next to me on the left. He was looking at something in the other chiller. I stared at his face when he bent down and peered inside the chiller glass door. He looks young, maybe Jacob's age. He has three inches of long blonde curly hair, has a clean-shaven beard. And his well-built body had been molded into his fitted black t-shirt. He's also tall, and I can't deny that he's good-looking. I winced when he suddenly looked at me. I pretended to be busy choosing a drink, but I could still feel the warmth of his gaze on me. I took four canned orange juices. Unexpectedly, I slipped a can of fluid from my hand. My chest pounded when the man suddenly approached me and grabbed the can of juice before it fell to the ground. I looked up at his face. He smirked. "Why not use the basket, so you don't get in trouble?" he said. I stared dumbfounded into his green eyes. His eyes are beautiful, bright, and attractive to look at. "Cassandra!" I twitched when I heard Jacob's voice call me. I quickly took the canned juice from the stranger guy's hand and went to Jacob. He was carrying a basket full of items he had chosen. I stopped next to Jacob when I noticed that he was not moving and was staring thoughtfully at the stranger guy. I turned to the guy, and he also stared at Jacob. I don't understand why Jacob and the man seem to know each other. The stranger looked peculiarly at Jacob; he appeared to challenge a fight. "Let's go, Jacob," I said to my husband. Jacob faced me. "Don't entertain strangers here," he whispered, clenching his jaws. He approached the counter to pay for the goods. I looked at the man again, but he still looked at me. I was surprised when he smiled at me sweetly with a wink. I ignored him despite the weird emotions that rose from my innermost. "Cassandra!" called Jacob again. I ran towards him and put the cans in his basket.
