19 Rather than parking their SUV at the farm, leaving it visible either from the road or Brenda’s family dairy farm, Bones and Maddock hiked the short distance from a sheltered pull-off. Deep grass and weeds said it wasn’t used often. Plus, the trees and brambles would keep the rented vehicle out of sight. They didn’t have anything to carry as everything they needed was in the cavern beneath the Hilltop Barn. They waited, out of sight, while the deputy sheriff drove off. Brenda’s father followed in his Dodge Ram. Brenda had been found. In any case, there wasn’t much evidence outside the farmhouse to gather. Yellow tape strung along the porch marked the house as part of the crime scene. The county’s sheriff’s department would likely call in help to collect any potential forensic evidence.
