It was a long time before anyone got a real fact out of Alex. It had taken George almost an hour (during one of the interminably slow periods
between TSP reports) to learn that she was from Vietnam by way of a refugee camp in Hong Kong. Months went by before he discovered another fact about her, months during which George heard the other
engineers making sly remarks about her smooth white skin, her large (for her size) breasts.
The engineers in his department were mostly married men (and, by a strange coincidence, most were married to Asian wives). He’d met the wives for the first time at the office Christmas
