THE BOXX OF TRUTH

4 deaths. 4 dreams. Now no one was going to set. No one was eating. Only breathing and the sound of rain in the hotel. --- _DAY 6. 9:00 AM. HARRY'S ROOM_ Harry stood by the door. Diary in hand. The door opened. Bella came in. Face pale. Dark circles under her eyes. "I can't stay here one more minute." Bella's voice shook. Harry took her hand. "Then don't." "Where do we go? The road is blocked." "Then the town. We see this cursed place ourselves. Maybe we find an answer." Bella nodded. "I can't go alone." "I'm with you." Harry said. "Let's go." Both put on raincoats. Went outside. The rain was light. Mud. Silence. Like the whole town was holding its breath. --- _DAY 6. 10:00 AM. BLACK PINES TOWN - DETAIL EXPANDED_ Deserted. Shops closed. House doors shut. Only old wooden houses. Rusted signs. "Population: 0" "No one lives here." Bella said. "Someone must." Harry said. "Gus is from here right." They walked street to street. Every house locked. Darkness stared from every window. The wind moved through broken power lines making a low humming sound. Old newspapers stuck to the wet pavement. A swing creaked on a porch even though there was no one on it. Suddenly Bella stopped. "Harry look." In front was the oldest house. Roof caved in. Door half broken. Above it written: _"MILLER HOUSE - 1926"_ Bella's heart pounded. "There's something in this house." Harry pushed the door. _CHIRRRR_ Darkness inside. Dust. Smell of rot. "Broken furniture. Pictures on the walls." Bella turned on her flashlight. The beam cut through the dust in the air. On the wall, a group photo of 30 people. Old clothes. Sad faces. Below it written: _"Black Pines Mining Crew. 1926"_ Harry moved forward. On the floor was a wooden box. Lock broken. He opened the box. Inside piles of photos. Yellow. Torn. And at the bottom... an envelope. "To whoever finds this" written on it. Harry's hands were shaking. He opened the letter. --- _LETTER - 1926_ _My name is Thomas Miller._ _If you are reading this, it means we are already dead._ _We are 30 men. Trapped in Black Pines for 29 days._ _It started with dreams. Every night one of us saw how he would die._ _Next day, it came true._ _Bear. Water. Fire. Choking. Knife. Fall._ _One by one._ _We tried to run. The road was blocked by landslide._ _We tried to pray. No one heard._ _On day 30, the last of us died._ _Before dying, old man Henry told us the truth._ _This curse is 800 years old._ _800 years ago, 30 travelers were murdered in their sleep in this valley._ _Their blood soaked this ground._ _Now every 100 years, they come back._ _For 30 days. To take 30 lives._ _One dream. One death. Every day._ _There is no escape. No one gets out alive._ _We are here. But there is no way back._ _God help you._ _- Thomas_ The letter fell from Bella's hand. "800 years..." Bella whispered. "This is 800 years old Harry." Harry looked at the photos. 1926 - 30 people. Then below, more photos. 1826. 1726. Every 100 years 30 new faces. All with the same fear in their eyes. "That means..." Harry's voice cracked. "We're the 6th group." Bella grabbed Harry's hand. "Are we going to die?" Harry pulled her close. "No. I'll find a way." Lightning flashed outside. Both looked up. On the window glass, mixed with rain, was a mark like blood running down. --- _DAY 6. 6:00 PM. BACK AT HOTEL_ Both ran back to the hotel. Everyone was gathered in the lobby. Harry put the box on the table. Read the letter out loud. Silence. Then screams. "800 years?!" "We're all going to die!" "No way out?!" Peter punched the wall. "Lie! This is all a lie!" Gus the janitor stepped forward. Tears in his eyes. "He's telling the truth kid. My grandpa told me the same. About 1926." Edward started laughing. Then crying. "So why are we here? For money? To die?" Spellman sat on the floor. Head in hands. Bella looked at Harry. "What do we do now?" Harry took out his diary. Hands shaking. _Day 1: Road blocked_ _Day 2: Bear - Mike_ _Day 3: Water - Tom_ _Day 4: Fire - Jake_ _Day 5: Choking - Jenny_ _Day 6: We found the truth. 800 year curse. 30 days. 30 deaths._ He closed the pen. --- _DAY 6. 11:00 PM. HARRY'S ROOM_ Bella didn't go back. She stayed in Harry's room. "I'm scared." She said. "What if I get the dream tonight?" Harry held her hand. "You won't. I'll stay awake." Both sat by the window. Outside: rain. Darkness. "Harry." Bella said softly. "If... if we survive?" "What?" "Will you... will you stay with me?" Harry looked at her. "Yes Bella. I promise." Bella kissed his injured hand. Then his cheek. "Thank you. For being my hero." Harry's heart was pounding. Right then... _THUD_ Something fell. Downstairs. Both got scared. Harry looked out the window. Miller House. Where they got the box. All its windows were lit up. At the same time. Like 30 people were standing inside. Watching. --- _DAY 7. 5:30 AM_ Scream. Again. Everyone ran. Room 12. _Emily Carter_ - Light technician. On the bed. Eyes open. Foam at the mouth. Marks on her neck. Like someone strangled and hanged her. But there was no rope. Only the marks. Fifth death. Exactly what the letter said: _"Choking."_ --- _DAY 7. 9:00 AM. LOBBY_ Now 41 left. No one was talking. Everyone was reading copies of the letter. "800 years..." Someone whispered. "Every 100 years, 30 days..." Someone cried. Edward stood up. Eyes red. "So we all die?" No one answered. Harry stood up. "No. If this is a pattern, we can break it." "How?" Bella asked. "I don't know." Harry said honestly. "But we're not giving up." That night Harry didn't sleep. He wrote in his diary: _We know the truth now._ _800 years. 30 people. 30 days._ _But knowing doesn't stop the dreams._ _Tonight... whose dream is next?_ He put the pen down. Outside the rain got heavier. The windows of Miller House lit up again. 30 shadows. Standing inside. Counting.
