His mind has become so hardened like that of a rock. “I have nothing to my name or in my account, no savings anywhere how do I leave this hell hole I’m in, i trusted Killian so much that we shared an account everything we’ve worked for all this years is in his name, he gives me money for the least of things as small as my sanitary pads he made sure my world revolves around him. Late into the night and as usual killian had traveled after the heated argument, on journeys like this he usually take five to seven days before his return, I sat under the moonlight, listening to the birds chirping sweet nothings, for a moment it took me out of reality, then came the sound of the owl. It sounded so scary that reality immediately dawned on me, I began thinking of a plan. “the spare key is somewhere in this house I hid it here, it’s the only solution. Vivara had taken out a spare key from Killians bunch of keys in one of his drunken nights the key to the major dry cocoa ware house. Where could it be I have turned this entire room upside down yet nothing, heavens please help me why does everything has to end bad for me, why I’m I so unlucky even the smallest of things. Yes I remember now I hid it inside my old sneakers I have the keys in my hands now the first solution to my problems I can finally escape this hell hole, freedom at last, wait it’s too early to celebrate first thing tomorrow at dawn I have to find a buyer I need to sell just a bag of cocoa anything more than that Killian will hear about it and he will make sure to keep tying me down. Early the next morning Vivara packed few of her important belongings containing her old pictures when she still had a beautiful face her documents, she arranged them in one corner of the room and immediately dashed out of the house to find a buyer, she met Gregory he was known for doing shady cocoa business he buys stolen cocoa at a lesser amount and to individuals who desperately want to sell without the real owners finding out when he resells he makes much profit, she took him to the cocoa ware house, which had over a hundred bags of dry cocoa ready to be exported. 85kg bag of cocoa was worth a million naira, Gregory seeing how desperate she looked offered to give her three hundred thousand, she bluntly refused and he made his final offer which is five hundred thousand. “Gregory this Is not fair and you know it, you’re doing this because you know how desperate I am and it’s the best specie of dry cocoa in the whole of bred drills, please add something to it. “Vivara that’s the highest I can offer because I know your story and I know how you’ve worked with Killian for years and literally I don’t consider you a thief just as other women who steal their men’s cocoa in their absence women who have never stepped their foot’s on their men’s farm land, unlike you the entire bred drills saw how you have built from scratch with this man who had turned your life to a living hell, so all you’re doing is collecting what’s rightfully yours and I am paying you in cash. I had no choice but to collect the money, Gregory carried the bag of cocoa and I immediately locked the cocoa ware house, now my transport has been sorted out two days has passed I no longer have time on my side I need to think fast, I need a new start in a city where no one knows me, where no one will judge me or my looks. Past twelve midnight, as I walk in the lonely streets leading to the park my heart skipped at every step I take with my little luggage held firm in my bossom, I looked back all I saw was thick darkness I immediately fastened my steps lately I have become familiar with fear so it really did not scare me that much, I walked for an hour before I finally arrived the park, lights were still on, little traders who sold things to travelers at night were all awake and active, I turned and spoke to one of the guys who’s smile drew me to him, I asked for a place to spend the few hours before dawn, I told him I will be traveling to the city with the first bus and I came from a very far place which I might likely not meet up if I had waited till the next morning, he showed me an abandoned vehicle and he demanded a tip, which I gave him. That night felt like the longest night of my life, while I laid in that abandoned bus, with all the little reptiles which crawled at my feet, I reminisced my life how everything changed between a twinkling of an eye I cried my last that night, I left every pain and baggage I had carried that drains my spirit all were left in that abandoned bus I dozed off. Sounds of horns from moving vehicles woke me up, I immediately jumped out of the bus, bought a bottle of water from the park traders washed my face and rinsed my mouth, a man called me, “miss covering her face where are you headed to the first vehicle is almost full, not knowing what to say or where I was headed i immediately raised my head and read the Writeup on the small box placed on the bus, which read “CREST FALL CITY”. I’m headed to that city, “miss the fare is very high the city is far and a big city not for poor people”, I was directed where to pay and was given a ticket, as I looked at the ticket I held in my hands all I saw was a ticket to freedom, I felt like screaming out loud but had to tuck every emotion I felt that moment inside. The journey was a smooth one, as the breeze passes across the windows it felt like it was taking my sorrows away, we passed different towns for hours it was a long journey and yet enjoyable, the ambience was different we arrived at nightfall I saw beautiful skyscrapers tall buildings that looked like they were touching the sky. “Passengers this is our final bustop said the driver, in a straight line every passenger stepped down, most of the passengers had thier families waiting eagerly with cars parked to take them home, they were met with smiles and warm hugs, there goes me standing there not knowing where to go from here if I’m to turn left or right.
