“I didn't mean to startle you.”
“I know,” I muttered, getting up from the sofa by propping up an elbow and staring at Aiden. I frowned when our eyes caught each other. “You didn't mean to make me faint too. I know you didn't mean all those.”
“Sam,” Aiden leaned his head against his knees, a thunking sound heard when he did. When everything was silent again, seconds later he got up and stared at me for a long time with his sea blue eyes boring into me.
He shook his head, sighing. “I really didn't mean it.”
“How long have I been out?” I asked instead.
It wasn't really the librarian's fault I fainted. It was because I was too surprised that my heart gave in and I blacked out – really, I was never this weak before. I was never so weak I would faint that easily at all.
