The Guenill

676 Words
What a wonderful city was Guenill. Right behind the town were huge mountains. Upon the hills was a distinguishable building, but no one really knew who was living there.  Soon after the ranger was allowed to pass the city gate, he continued straight knowing where he wanted to go. Norrick wasn´t interested in beauties of the town at all, since he has been there several times already.  Where you took a look, you saw markets, pubs and peaceful and obedient dwellers with no desire to bother anyone. It was almost strange how calm was living here. Only a few guards were in this town. They served to calm down drunk inhabitants and sometimes to fight off small groups of bandits, however, the guards wouldn´t stand a chance against a bigger army or the great beast, ranger met on his journey. Dragons normally didn´t get close to the cities. Passing by the good people of Guenill, Norrick spotted his favourite location. It was a whorehouse. Normally he would spend there some time with Rebecca, his favourite brothel employee, nevertheless, he had an urgent business to do and of course small Gellerion home alone.  Finally, the ranger managed to get in front of the Dancing pony. It was the most favourite and visited spot in the whole city, while there was tapped the best ale in all kingdoms. This pub was well known by its ale all over the kingdom Eden, although it tasted best in this tavern.  Norrick knew he will find there Oleg, general of Eden´s forces and a notorious chronic alcoholic. The view on the rounded man in fancy armour drinking whole ale mug in once disgusted the ranger. He had a strong stomach for a lot of things but not this.  Putting his hand on general´s shoulder Norrick smiled on him.  "Hello, old friend." greeted him with a calm voice.  Oleg put down his mug  "Look who do we have here? The most famous ranger ever. The mighty Norrick" he shouted "Round of ale for everyone!"  "Calm down please, I have an urgent business to discuss with you." "Alright man." the general said clearly and also a little disappointed. "What is it then?" he continued. With a serious look, he gave him a signal, expressing it is not a theme to discuss in the public. They moved together in one of the rooms, the pub was renting.  "You are so mysterious, will you tell me now what is going on?" "I was following a group of goblins. They attacked Dollage with no survivors. "Nothing unusual in my opinion." with saying that Norrick glared at him for a moment. "Alright, loosing one hundred lives is usual for you, I see." "That's not how I meant it, my friend," he tried to clear the atmosphere. "Anyway," continued Norrick, "before I got to the goblins someone or something killed them all. I thought it was the defensive spell that should protect the village, but I have never seen such symbols on dead bodies before." "Alright, this is something else. Do you think somebody killed them with magic?" he asked, now being more interested in the situation. "Honestly, I don´t know," answered ranger quickly "Do you think you can find out what happened there?" "Me? Without any chance, but I can inform someone, who can. I will write an urgent letter to the king." "The king? Are you sure?" questioned him ranger. "He is the only one who can help us in this situation."  Magic was a serious business in Eden. Not many wizards could be found in this kingdom, since the great war that cost many lives including one of king´s daughter, Noore. Even though she was one of the greatest warriors, she died in a duel having no chance against the dark mage, Inferis. Suddenly the idea of telling general about the baby came to Norrick´s mind, but after a few seconds, it was gone. He let his little secret to himself. After farewells, their discussion ended. Norrick even refused to sit with general and drink one ale with him. The only thing he thought about now was the baby.
