Nyra's POV
I didn't sleep a wink last night. My mind was restless, crowded with everything that happened yesterday. It felt surreal. Everything felt like a dream. It all happened in a blink of an eye.
It's my birthday, then I was sold to the vampire king.
And now, I was being shipped off to his kingdom.
I wished—desperately—that I could turn back time. Stop it. Run away before his arrival. Disappear before my fate was sealed.
But it was too late.
There was nothing I could do.
As I exited the pack house, my steps slowed. Several cars were parked outside, their windows tinted black, hiding the faces within. Cold. Ominous.
They all belonged to one man.
A man powerful enough to force my father’s hands into giving me up. Powerful enough to claim me without resistance. A man no one dared oppose.
“I will miss you,” my maid sobbed, her voice breaking as she wrapped her arms around me.
She held me so tightly I could barely breathe.
I would miss her too. She was the only one who had cared for me since I was young. The only one who gave me the love my father and his family refused to offer. Her presence shaped my life in quiet, invisible ways.
She pulled back, wiping her tears.
“Make sure you behave yourself when you get there. Don’t embarrass me and the pack,” my father said.
His voice was cold. Empty.
Sadness clenched my heart. Tears burned behind my eyes.
This might be the last day he would ever see me, yet there were no words of comfort. No reassurance. No regret.
Only an order.
My stepmother hugged me next. The gesture shocked me—but I knew better. Nothing good ever came from her touch.
She leaned in close, her lips brushing my ear. “Now you’re going where you belong. You never belonged here. You’re just a burden.”
She stepped back, her eyes filling with fake tears.“I will miss you, my child,” she said loudly, her voice dripping with false sympathy.
Then came my sister. The one who despised me. The one my existence offended.
She hugged me and whispered, just like her mother,
“I hope you enjoy your new home. Now that you’re out of my way, I’m the real daughter of the Alpha of the Crystal Moon Pack.”
“What’s taking her so long?” A cold voice sliced through the tension. I didn’t need to turn to know who it was. “We have a long journey ahead of us.” The vampire king added.
I slipped myself off her hold. She really disgusted me, both her and her mother.
Slowly, gently and devastatingly, I moved to the car. One of his men opened the door for me and I entered, finding myself sitting with the demon. My breath hitched. Every instinct screamed for me to get out.
“If you feel that uncomfortable sitting with me,” he said calmly, his gaze shifting to mine, “I don’t mind shoving you into the booth.”
Something stirred inside me when our eyes met. His dark hazel gaze pulled at me, heavy and unsettling.
I looked away at once, staring out the window.
Sadness surged as I watched the pack grounds fade—the place I once called home. The only place I had ever known. No place would ever feel like it again.
The engine started and the car started moving.

“Now, we are here," a familiar voice said.
My eyes snapped opened, and instantly I jolted upright when I realized I had been resting my head on his shoulder all along. Heat rushed to my face.
The journey had been long and exhausting that I had decided to take a nap.
How could I sleep so much that I would lay my head on his shoulder?
What a foolish girl. I scolded myself inwardly, angry at myself.
“Welcome home, Little wolf." He mumbled, his voice unusually soft.
I looked outside through the window. An ancient castle rose before me—massive, towering, and breathtaking. Beautiful in a way that made my chest tightened.
One of his men opened the door and I stepped outcautiously. My eyes scanned the whole place, my lips parted in awe as I looked at the giant castle.
Cars lined the compound. A grand fountain sat at its center, water dancing under the light. This place said it all.
He wasn't just a powerful man, but also wealthy.
“Follow me!" He ordered and like an obedient servant I did.
As we approached the entrance, people rushed out and lined up. When we reached them, they bowed in unison.
“Welcome back, Lord Nickolas.”
Then my eyes caught a woman, dressed in a very elegant and beautiful attire. She passed through the line to where Vampire king was and threw herself in his arms.
“I thought it would take you longer to return,” she said sweetly, caressing his face. “I was so sad.”
Something twisted uncomfortably inside me.
Who's she?
“But I’m here now,” he replied, his tone unfriendly.
“And that’s why I’m happy.” she beamed.
A wave of anger surged through me.
If he already had someone—Why steal me from my pack?
Why make my life more unbearable?
Why can't he just let me be?
I stood still, glaring in his direction, my hands curling to fists.
The woman's gaze shifted to mine and instantly I lowered my gaze.
Then I felt her closeness. “Raise your head." She commanded, but I didn't comply. “Didn’t you hear me?” She lifted my chin with her finger, forcing me to meet her eyes.
Her brown eyes burned into mine, as if she's inspecting me. Her brows furrowed for a moment then suddenly her eyes widened and she jerked my head away violently. She recoiled immediately. “She's a werewolf!" She snarled, disgust evident in her voice. “I should've known. She smells terrible." She added, winking her nose.
My stomach tightened at her words. My hands curled into a very tight fist beside me.
How dare her speak so terrible about us?
She should know that we are more humanely than they were.
“Is she another palace servant?" She started again, using her finger to move by head from one side to another as she continued to inspect. “I want her to work for me."
“Keep your hands away, Lydia." Vampire King snapped, throwing a glare in her direction. “She's not a maid!"
“Then who is she?" She demanded, her face distorted with disappoinment.
“That's none of your business." He muttered coldly.
He's really a demon. He still spoke rudely to the woman he loved.
“Take her to one of the guest's rooms." He commanded one of the ladies lined up. She bowed and hurried my way.
“Please follow me." She said and walked into the house.
Reluctantly I followed her into the house. I glanced back at the vampire king and his lover.
I didn't know why I suddenly develop interest in both of them.
The interior design of the building was so classic and modern. It spoke of wealth and power. It's so mermerizing and overwhelming that I found it hard to take my eyes off every design.
She took me to a room, the one which was bigger and more beautiful than my room.
“Please, make yourself comfortable." She said and I nodded. Then she made her way out of the room.
Absentmindedly, I moved to the window, and my jaw dropped when I saw the sight of the kingdom.
Who would have guessed that someone as brutal as him could be controlling such a big and beautiful city.
Then suddenly a wave of sadness washed over me, making me flop on the bed near me.
I never really wanted to be here. I was only here before I had no choice.
I wished I could find my mate and escape this hell.
I never believed what my father was true because I knew that every wolf has their own mate.
“Of course. We have a mate." A thin voice said in my head and I knew that it's my wolf, Serene.
“Really? We do?" A ray of hope lit in the corner of my heart.
“Yes. And it's the vampire king himself. You should consider yourself lucky for having him."
Instantly, my body stilled, my mind froze. It took me a few moment to recollect myself.
What? Vampire king?
Never! There's no way he would be my mate.
“You have to accept it. Every she wolf dreams to have him as a mate. You should be grateful." My chest tighened at her words.
“It's over my dead body. There's no way he's the one. It can't be him."
“Why?" A voice boomed beside me, making me almost jump out of my skin.
I looked beside me and saw a strange handsome man.
“Sorry for scaring you like that." He said, smiling.
“Who are you?" I demanded, still trying to calm my racing heart.
“I'm Nickolas' cousin. Silas." He answered, his voice cool and friendly unlike the king. “Why did you think it can't be him? And... Who is ‘him'?" He questioned and my eyes widened in shock.
I became tongue tied, unknown of what to say or how to say it.
That the man I hated m
ost was my mate?
That the creature who murdered my mother was the one I must love?
It's unbelievable.
