Nyra's POV The mischief in his eyes spoke louder than any word could ever say. The depth of those eyes was filled with an endless darkness, enough to make my whole body quiver anytime the memory of last night flashed through my mind. I didn't want to be left alone with him. It was too dangerous. “Alright, Your Majesty,” Silas muttered. He turned to leave, but I grabbed his hand tightly, my fingers locking around his skin, unwilling to let go. “Can you stay?” I asked. My gaze remained fixed on him as the King stared intently, watching us, his brows pulled together in bewilderment. It wasn't that I felt safe with any of them, but I thought it would be better to be with Silas while the King talked to me. I needed a buffer to prevent any misfortune from happening. “What?” Silas mumbled, his eyes darting nervously between me and the King. “What are you doing?” the Vampire King demanded, his voice laced with uncontained anger. “You want us to be friends?” I asked, looking into Silas's eyes, hoping he could understand my desperation. “You asked me to have trust in you—why don't you stay with me here as we talk? Maybe I can consider that...” He shook his head, a look of defeat crossing his face. “I can't. Defying the King means death,” he replied helplessly. Then, unconsciously, my hand slipped off Silas's wrist. My mind suddenly went into a haze. I should've known better; they were all the same. They were ruthless and unemotional. His earlier emotional moment had been nothing but a facade. “You should've known better, little wolf...” the Vampire King said, stepping into my space. His gaze locked on mine, dangerous and terrifying. “You are in my territory, yet you try to make my own kind go against me?” he demanded, his voice thick with anger and frustration. I looked down, swallowing hard, trying my best to get rid of the tremor wracking my body. There was something about him that made me terrified—especially his eyes. “Go!” he ordered Silas. I listened to the sound of his retreating steps, and my chest tightened. It wasn't that I truly trusted Silas to stay, but I had hoped he would. Then, suddenly, the Vampire King gripped my wrist. His cold skin shot a chill through my body, making every muscle in me lock. He dragged me into my new room, shoving me against the wall. He hovered over me, his hands pinned to the wall on either side of my head. His body was almost pressing onto mine, his face only an inch away. The closeness made my stomach churn, yet it made my heart race in a strange, erratic rhythm. I wanted to escape his little cage, but he held me in place. “Let me...” I warned. I tried to raise my voice, but it broke. I fought hard, but he gathered my hands into his big hand, pinning them against the wall. “You are...” He paused, sucking in a sharp breath, his gaze fixed on mine. It was cold and ominous. “You are truly unbelievable. First day and you already make a friend?” he questioned. I heard him take another long, slow inhale. “Don't make me go mad, little wolf,” he warned, his voice detached. “I told you, I'm a short-tempered man. Don't make me lose it.” “What are you going to do?” I confronted him, trying to force my voice to sound strong. His gaze held mine in an even more terrifying way. “I'm more dangerous than you believe. And there are so many unbelievable things I can do to you,” he muttered. His other hand brushed down my face, his coldness shooting through my cheek. I shook my head, trying to get rid of his touch. “You stay away from the guy, or you won't like what I do to you,” he threatened. A scoff of disbelief left my lips. It was unbelievable. He really thought he could control me—that he could tell me who to associate with. “Or what?” I challenged. The expression on his face froze for a moment before being replaced by an ominous chuckle. “You don't own me. I do what I like and I talk to who I want.” “Believe it or not... I do. I bought you from your father. From your pack. You are nothing but a pet, and you do as I command you,” he stated. His voice was strong, leaving no room for objections. “You hear me?” “Just let me go,” I complained, wincing as I tried to free myself. “Not until you answer me,” he said, his voice filled with determination. I knew he wouldn't let go until I told him what he wanted to hear. But I couldn't. Agreeing with him would mean leaving my fate in his hands. I couldn't let anyone gain control over me. Never! He leaned in closer, and suddenly his earthy scent hit my nostrils, causing my heart to pound weirdly in my chest. “You answer me, or I won't let you go,” he said firmly. “Then I won't,” I replied, an unknown confidence surging through me. “I will never allow someone like you to have control over me.” “You are taking on more than you can chew, little wolf.” His hand cupped my neck firmly. His gaze remained glued to mine, and in that moment, I swear I could feel a tremor run through my entire body. My breath hitched, and palpitations covered my body. “I know you don't know what I'm capable of, but be careful of your words. I can make you regret them in seconds.” I wanted to scream at him to leave me, but I couldn't. It was like I had lost my voice. The heat blazing through my veins had stolen my tongue. And deep inside, I could feel my wolf jump with excitement. I didn't know what was going on with me, but I knew that whatever it was, it wasn't good. Vampires were demons, and I had to beware of them, especially their king. His hand caressed my neck, sending a quiver down my spine. I wished I could lash out at him, but it was impossible. It felt like he was doing something to me—like he was controlling me. Then suddenly, I saw his eyes turn red, and his fangs elongated. My senses kicked in. The thought of him biting me and sucking my blood exploded in my head, making anger surge inside me. I tried to push my way through, but I couldn't. He held me too firmly in place. A soft groan slipped from his mouth. He shut his eyes and bowed his head. I wondered what was wrong with him; it looked like he was fighting something within himself. His mouth moved toward my neck, and panic surged through me. I struggled to free myself, but it was no use. Suddenly, the door swung open. He quickly staggered backward, his face etched with horror. A man stood still by the door, his wide eyes darting between us. “Your attention is needed, King,” the man said, bowing his head. The Vampire King’s eyes met mine for a moment. Something unspoken and strange flashed in them before he walked out of the room. When I saw that he was gone, I slumped down to the floor. My head hung low, my breath was shaky, and my heart was racing. What was that? I didn't know what was wrong with me. I was supposed to push him away when he wanted to bite me, yet I hadn't been able to do anything. A depressing sigh left my lips. What should I do? “I thought you were nobody, but who knew that you are really a pain in the ass.” A voice cut through my thoughts. I raised my head and saw Lydia, the King’s lover. My brows raised slightly, wondering what was going on. What did she want from me? I couldn't believe my first day in the vampire kingdom would be this much of a hell.
