That awful sound, that cry in the night. Suddenly, rising out of the darkness, emerging from the wild cacophony of grunts and grumbles and snorts and warbles that comprised the aural landscape of the bush, there was this terrible sound, this plaintive cry, unlike any I’d ever heard. Eeeeeeeaaaaa! Eeeeeeeaaaaa! The sound was beyond anything I could possibly imagine while languishing in the numbing safety of a North American city, ten thousand miles from the dangerously intoxicating experience of the bush.
