3 – The Shadow Beast’s Domain
Aria’s legs burned, but she didn’t stop. Every instinct screamed at her to run, yet every nerve in her body tingled with… something she couldn’t name.
The massive creature watched her, silent but unmoving, until she stumbled over a fallen branch and fell hard to the ground. Pain shot through her knee, but she barely noticed—her focus was on survival.
“Stop,” the voice rumbled, deeper than any growl she’d ever heard. “You’re running in circles.”
Aria’s heart skipped. The Shadow Beast had spoken again. His amber eyes gleamed in the darkness, studying her.
“I-I’m leaving,” she stammered, trying to scramble to her feet.
“You won’t make it far,” he said calmly, almost amused. “The forest isn’t kind to the lost. But I… might help you.”
Aria froze. “Help me?”
“Yes. But help comes at a price.” His gaze bore into hers, intense and impossible to look away from. “Stay with me for one night. Survive. Learn. Or leave… and risk death.”
Aria’s mind raced. The Alpha she had loved rejected her. The pack she had trusted had laughed at her. And now… here she was, in the middle of a dark forest, faced with a terrifying, powerful creature promising survival—but nothing else.
She swallowed hard. “I… I’ll stay,” she whispered, though her heart screamed caution.
The Shadow Beast didn’t smile, but his amber eyes softened, just slightly. “Good. Come.”
He led her through a hidden path that twisted through ancient trees and overgrown roots. The air grew warmer, more alive, and Aria felt the faintest pull—like the forest itself recognized her presence.
Finally, they reached a clearing. At its center stood a massive stone structure, black as obsidian, glowing faintly under the moonlight.
“This will be your home… for now,” he said. “Rest. Learn. Train. And when the time comes, you will not be the girl who was rejected.”
Aria’s chest tightened. Rejected… humiliated… powerless… all the pain of the last night flooded back. Yet, somewhere deep inside, a spark of hope flickered.
For the first time since Draven’s words tore her heart apart, she felt one undeniable truth:
She would rise.
She would become more than they ever imagined.
And someday… they would regret rejecting her.
The Shadow Beast turned toward the shadows of the stone structure, his glowing eyes never leaving hers. “Rest now. Tomorrow… your real journey begins.”
Aria sat on the cold stone floor, staring at the moonlight streaming through the trees. Fear mixed with anticipation, heartbreak mixed with hope.
And
she realized—her life had changed forever.
