I followed the sound of the screams and soon found Zander in one of the lower levels of the dungeon. Around him, there were roughly 8 or 9 people dressed with black cloaks all lying down in a puddle of their own blood, but that wasn't what I was focused on. No, what immediately drew my attention was the beautiful redheaded woman, that was my mate, lying on a cot, behind some bars. A low growl ripped out of my chest as I saw a dark-haired woman standing as if she was shielding Serenity from a man that appeared to be advancing towards them with a dagger drawn as if to attack and kill them.
"Stupid lost child, I suggest you stop. Do you know who is standing in front of you?" The strange woman grumbled darkly, causing me to be confused due to her manner of speaking. I know she almost appeared lost in time, but this isn't medieval times and who was she anyway?
"Of course I do, Lady Hecate, but I was ordered to bring her to Dante alive or dead and you have no idea what that monster will do if we fail him," the advancing man said as his voice broke slightly and he unvolunteerily shivered.
"Oh, so you think he is scarier than a pissed-off goddess?" Hecate asked as I slipped into the cell they were in. Hecate's eyes momentarily looked at me and a smirk formed on her face as I sneaked up on the man.
"Or a pissed off me?" I asked as I grabbed the man by the throat and lifted him up off the ground. "What is your name?"
The man was obviously struggling to speak so I loosened my grip slightly so that he could reply. "C...Cam...Cameron." He stammered.
"Well, Cameron, any last words before I rip your throat out for endangering my mate?"
"Y...Y...your mate? I had no idea t...that the g....gift was your m.....mate Demon prince. P....pl.....please spare me. I s....swear I will do an....anything you ask. I could help."
I looked over to Hecate and my mate, who were both nodding, and held my other hand out. "Then hand me your weapon and go prepare a clear, safe path for me and my mate to leave. If you do this, I will not only spare your pathetic life but will offer my protection against this Dante character."
"Thank you, your highness," Cameron said as he handed me the dagger. Once I sat him on his feet, I watched as he scampered off to do as he was told.
"Serenity, Damien, I wish I could say this is the end of your troubles, but I cannot," Hecate began, and both I and Serenity began watching her intently. "I would suggest that both of you decide to make your relationship official and public as soon as you possibly can and gather as many allies as you can." Was all the witch goddess said before she disappeared into thin air. I ran up to Serenity and began checking her for any signs of injury. I had so many questions running through my head about what was said and happening here, but they would have to wait until later. Right now, the most important thing was getting Serenity out of here and to somewhere safe.
I picked up Serenity, bridal style, causing her to gasp slightly, and carried her out of the cell. A quick look around proved that our warriors succeeded in killing all of the others that had dared to touch her. This caused my heart to swell in pride as I carried my mate out of the dingy dungeon and out into the fresh air. Once we made it outside, I placed her down on her feet and looked around proudly.
" Thank you all for helping me to save my lovely mate. You have my undying gratitude." I proclaimed as Zander finally came out of the dungeon.
"As it is so late already, I invite you all to spend the night and we shall have a feast before bed to celebrate our victory," Zander said, and I slapped him on the shoulder in gratitude.
We all followed him into his pack house where he had his omegas show the others to their rooms while he showed me and Serenity to ours.
"Are you two going to share a room," he asked us, and I turned to Serinity with puppy dog eyes, begging her to agree.
"Yes," she answered and I let out a breath. I had no idea that I had been holding.
Zander then continued up to the 4th floor of his pack house, which he always kept open for his visiting alphas. As he led us the rest of the way to our room, we chatted. Catching up on everything that has been going on in our lives since I last saw him a few years ago. Anyone watching us would never be able to see why I am called a heartless demon prince, but I did not care.
When we got to the room, Serenity ran into the room to get a shower.
While Serinity was taking a shower, I pulled Zander aside to tell him my plan.
"I was trying to propose to Serenity when she was kidnapped and at dinner, I would like to complete the proposal, if you do not mind," I said.
"Of course, not. Is there anything I can do to help you?" he asked.
After a moment's thought, I nodded and said, "If you could help me to set it up, I would be forever grateful to you."
From there, we walked off to his office on the third floor to discuss our plans for dinner tonight privately so that there was hopefully no way that Serenity would catch on.
