The first day of school arrived, and I found myself in a circle of acquaintances, but my priorities were clear: studying hard and aiming for an academic scholarship. My blockmates often teased me, suggesting that I should have pursued a career in modeling, given my looks, instead of entrepreneurship.
As I navigated the sea of new faces, one person approached me, introducing himself with a warm smile, "Hi! I'm Sebastian, Sebastian Gregory, or you can call me Greg, or even just Baste for short."
I couldn't help but appreciate the friendly gesture, though I responded with a calm and measured tone, "Hello, I'm Gabrielle, but you can call me Gab or Ille." It might have come across as a bit reserved, but I preferred being genuine rather than putting on a facade in front of others.
Join us, Gab! We were planning to go to MOA as a group, celebrating our first days, along with our friends, Ether, Phoebe, Sebastian, and Bea. I'm sure you would enjoy," Sebastian exclaimed with excitement and joy.
I hesitated for a moment, my thoughts swirling, but I was rendered speechless when our eyes met a breathtaking beauty named Phoebe. She seemed like a wealthy heiress or something along those lines.
As Mark extended the invitation, I couldn't help but feel a rush of curiosity mixed with a dash of nervousness. It was evident that this group was tight-knit, and their camaraderie was infectious. I stole another glance at Phoebe, her presence radiating an air of sophistication that left me somewhat awestruck.
"Well," I finally managed to say, trying to regain my composure, "I'd be a fool to pass up an invitation like that. Count me in!"
Mark grinned widely, clapping me on the back. "Great! You won't regret it, Gab. Our group is a blast, and we're going to make these college years unforgettable!"
Walking at The Mall of Asia with an unwavering joy, I was ready to enjoy the day with my newly found friends. The sun painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, creating a perfect backdrop for our adventure. As we strolled along, laughter filled the air, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for the moments we were creating together.
Phoebe, the enchanting presence in our group, seemed to radiate a magnetic charm that drew my attention. She was an ethereal beauty, her grace and confidence making her stand out effortlessly. But I knew better than to let my gaze linger too long. I had to regain my composure, not wanting to appear overly captivated.
Just as I was attempting to sneak a quick glimpse of Phoebe without being too obvious, Sebastian, one of my newfound friends, broke the silence with a question.
"Gab, where do you live?" he asked, his curiosity piqued.
I paused for a moment, contemplating how much to reveal. There was a certain allure in maintaining an air of mystery, and I wasn't one to divulge everything about myself so easily."That's confidential for you, Sebastian," I replied with a playful smile, my tone teasing. "Maybe some things you don't need to know just yet. After all, you don't know me that well."
I hoped my response would maintain an air of intrigue, leaving room for our friendship to develop naturally. And as the day continued, filled with laughter and adventures, I couldn't help but wonder how this newfound connection would evolve, especially with the enigmatic presence of Phoebe in the mix.
"As you said so, Gabrielle," Sebastian replied, his voice carrying a touch of contemplation. We strolled along the sprawling sidewalks of Mall of Asia, our friends chatting and laughing around us. But in that moment, a gust of wind swept through, taming the otherwise calm ambience of our experiences. I found myself coming to a halt, my gaze fixed on the horizon, lost in thought as I tried to paint a picture of the future for myself.
Sebastian glanced at Phoebe, concern flickering in his eyes. "Phoebe, something on your mind?" he asked, slowing his pace to match my stillness.
She took a deep breath, the sea breeze carrying a salty tang that reminded me of the vast world beyond. "It's just that," I began slowly, "sometimes I wonder if the path laid out for me by my family is the right one. Being the heir to Piettere Airlines, it's a weighty responsibility, and I can't help but wonder if there's more to life than just following in their footsteps."
I was surprised knowing that Phoebe is a heir of Piettere Airlines, nodded in understanding. "I get it, Phoebe," I said softly. "I've felt that pressure too, being the sole heir of Castro-- I mean the heir of those farmlands. It's like our families have mapped out our lives, and it's expected that we'll simply walk that path without question."
Sebastian chimed in, his expression thoughtful. "But you know," he said, "sometimes the winds of change can lead us to unexpected places. It's not about defying our families, but perhaps finding a way to blend our own aspirations with the legacies they've entrusted to us."
She smiled at our friends, grateful for their support and understanding. "You're right," She replied, the gusty wind now feeling like a breath of fresh air. "Maybe it's time for us to write our own chapters, to make our own choices, and to see where the winds of our hearts take us."
The group of friends had just finished a delightful dinner at a cozy café in the heart of the city. The night was still young, and the possibilities were endless.
Sebastian, always the adventurous spirit of the group, leaned back in his chair, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Well," he began, "since we have the whole night ahead of us and classes tomorrow, why not make the most of it? How about a little midnight adventure?"
My curiosity was piqued, and I raised an eyebrow. "Midnight adventure? What do you have in mind?"
Phoebe, sitting across from me, interjected with an enthusiastic smile. "I'm up for anything, as long as it's not too wild. What did you have in mind, Sebastian?"
Sebastian leaned in closer, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "How about a moonlit stroll through the city's park? It's beautiful at night, and we can have a peaceful chat under the stars."
Some of our friends nodded in agreement, while others exchanged glances filled with intrigue. I found the idea surprisingly appealing, given my usual inclination toward shyness and introversion. "A moonlit stroll sounds lovely," I admitted, feeling a bit of my earlier coldness melting away. "It's a perfect way to unwind before another day of classes."
Sebastian's eyes twinkled with satisfaction as he looked around at our group, a mischievous grin tugging at the corners of his lips. "Great! Let's finish up here, and then we'll head to the park," he announced with enthusiasm. "It's not too far from here, and I promise it'll be a night to remember."
Excitement rippled through the air as our friends exchanged glances, all eager to know what Sebastian had in store for us. Emily, always the curious one, leaned in and asked, "What's the plan, Seb? You've got us all intrigued now."
Sebastian chuckled, relishing the anticipation he had built. "Well," he began, drawing out the suspense, "I've arranged for us to have a magical picnic under the starlit sky. I've got gourmet sandwiches, a selection of the finest cheeses, and, of course, a variety of wines to choose from—courtesy of my cousin's vineyard."
Sophia, our resident foodie, clapped her hands in delight. "You had me at 'gourmet sandwiches'! But a vineyard selection too? You've outdone yourself, Seb!"
As we continued to pack up our things and tidy our picnic spot, Sebastian explained the rest of his plan. "Once we're at the park, we'll set up our cozy picnic area near the lake. There's a meteor shower expected tonight, and I thought it would be the perfect backdrop for a night of stargazing and storytelling."
Ether, our amateur astronomer, couldn't contain his excitement. "A meteor shower? That's incredible! I'll bring my telescope, and we can spot some constellations too."
Sebastian nodded in approval. "Exactly, John! And, to add a bit of magic, I've brought along some Chinese lanterns. We'll release them into the night sky and make wishes as they float away."
I saw Sebastian lean toward me, his voice barely a whisper. "I know you have a crush on Phoebe," he said, causing me to gasp and glance nervously in his direction. "Y-yes," I stammered, caught off guard. "How did you know that?"
Sebastian leaned in, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he spoke in a hushed tone, "Gab," he began, "I haven't known you for all that long, buddy, but it doesn't take a detective to see the way you look at her." He flashed a sly grin.
I could feel a blush creeping up my cheeks, a sense of vulnerability washing over me. "I suppose I'm not as discreet as I believed," I admitted sheepishly.
Sebastian chuckled softly. "No worries, my friend. We all have our secrets." He then leaned even closer and lowered his voice. "But here's the thing, Gab. You've got an opportunity tonight."I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What do you mean?"
Sebastian's eyes sparkled with mischief. "You see those Chinese lanterns over there?" He gestured to a colourful display nearby. "Tonight's the night. Give one to Phoebe, and suggest that you both write your names on it. Then, release them together. It's romantic, man, and it'll give you the chance to be close to her without making it too obvious. Plus, it's a gesture that she'll remember."
My heart raced at the idea. It was both nerve-wracking and exciting. "You really think I should do that?"
Sebastian nodded enthusiastically. "Absolutely. Trust me, Gab. This could be your chance to make a lasting impression."
Beneath the moon's silvery radiance, Gab tentatively approached Phoebe, his heart throbbing in harmony with a love ballad. They found themselves at the edge of a serene lake, enveloped by the calming orchestra of crickets and the occasional owl's hoot. Clutching a lantern with trembling hands, Gab drew in a deep breath, gathering the courage to begin.
"Hello, Phoebe," he softly initiated, his voice barely more than a whisper.
Phoebe turned to meet his gaze, her eyes glistening in the moon's glow. "Gab," she responded with a warm smile, "what brings you here?"
Gab extended the lantern toward her, their fingers making delicate contact as he handed it over. "I had a thought," he faltered, "what if we inscribed our dreams and promises onto this lantern together?"
Phoebe's eyes widened with delight as she accepted the lantern. "That's a truly beautiful idea, Gab," she enthused, her heart aflutter with curiosity. "Let's proceed."
As they nestled together, their fingers entwined, they took turns etching their aspirations and commitments onto small pieces of parchment. Each word they wrote concealed a concealed confession, an unspoken proclamation of affection they both lacked the courage to voice aloud.
Gab watched Phoebe as she wrote, her face bathed in the lantern's gentle, flickering light. She appeared enchanting, utterly captivating, and he became entranced by her allure. He knew he needed to reveal his feelings, but his words remained trapped within him, ensnared by his own insecurities.
Just as he mustered the bravery to confess, an unexpected ringtone shattered the tranquil night. Phoebe's phone lit up, displaying her father's name on the screen.
She reluctantly answered the call, her brow furrowing as she listened to her father's urgent voice on the other end. "I'll be right there, Dad," she sighed. "I need to head home."
Gab's heart plummeted as he witnessed her concluding the conversation. He had been so close to expressing his emotions, but destiny had intervened once more. "Is everything alright?" he inquired, attempting to conceal his disappointment.
Phoebe nodded, her face etched with concern. "Yes, my dad needs me to return home urgently. It seems important."
Gab nodded, his own heart heavy with sorrow. "Of course, Phoebe. Family always comes first. Please take care."
