***Poppy**
"We can go pick up what you need from town," Luna says as she walks into the room with me. I set my bag down on the bed. It looked so dirty compared to the bedding. Another reminder that this is happening, I kept replaying what happened back at the house, how the prince had stood up for me,
I still wasnt sure why they went to help me. However, I was thankful for them being there; it would have been a lot worse if I had gone alone.
"Poppy," Luna's voice pulled my attention from my bag, looking up, she stood there, hands clasped togather as she looked at me.
"Im sorry, Luna."
She chuckled, "It's okay, dear, this is a lot happening right now, but if you need something, let me know, we can go into town and get it. I'll have one of the warriors drive us."
"Oh, that's okay, Im use to walking there," I said without hesitation, but as soon as the words left me, I knew I screwed up. I shut my eye scolding myself for not thinking first.
"Im sorry. Poppy, but did you just say you walked there?"
Letting out a breath, I dropped my chin to my chest, "Yes," I whispered. I didnt know what would happen if they knew I would get punished for walking that far alone.
"Was that something you did a lot?" Worry laced her voice, "Alone?"
Nodding, "Yes, Luna, if we need supplies, I would run into town,"
"Poppy, thats is a good distance."
"I know, but Luna, I really didnt mind the walk. I enjoyed the time outside." I quickly blurtted out, I didnt want more ammo behind aimed at Trinity, it would only come back on me later, and it was im use to, Do not let them know anything, do not open your mouth or you will be sorry,
I can still hear her warnings. Yes, she slapped me a few times, but there would be other things, like going longer without food or doing more chores. Adele and Tabithia would do things as well; now, those two had no issue with raising their hands to me or causing me some sort of pain,
"Poppy," A hand touched my shoulder, making me jump back, arms up covering my face,
"Poppy. its okay." Luna soft voice rolled over me, I lowered my arms, peeking through them as I did, She was looking at me with such worry I could see it in her eyes, it was almost a pity look, but not, It was warm the more i looked and took her in, Something washed over me helping me to relax, Dropping my arms,
"Sorry, Luna,"
"No need to be sorry, Poppy," She held her hands up as she stepped closer to me. Her hand came up slowly she placed it on my shoulder. I could feel the weight of it, but it didnt hurt or weigh me down; it felt more like grounding me,
"Im sorry, Poppy. We have failed you, and that's on us, but I want to make it right,"
Shaking my head, "You didnt Luna, You and Alpha are busy running a whole pack. It's not your fault."
Her face softened, "You, Poppy, are the sweetest, so innocent, but I know what we did, and we messed up, but you are here now, and it will get better for you, I promise." She gave me a soft smile,
Nodding back, I believed her, I was saying the truth, I didnt blame them; I knew the blame lay on Trinity.
"I will leave you to settle in."
She was out the door, leaving me alone in this huge room. I wasnt sure what to do, so I put away the things I brought with me. which didnt take long, I sat on the edge of the bed, I wasnt sure what I was to do, I'm not used to having a lot of downtime, sure I would hide in my little room, but that would only last maybe ten minutes, and they were calling for me, so having nothing to do is something new to me.
A knock came, pulling me out of my thoughts. Walking over, I pulled the door open to find the prince standing there, Hands in his pockets. He looked so casual standing there, nothing like what I thought a prince would look like. He wore jeans with a simple t-shirt and black boots. I had to crane my neck as he was so tall.
I have to admit he was good-looking. His eyes were a light blue, almost crystal-clear. His black hair was cut short on the sides like a buzz cut, but slightly longer on the top, nothing that would hang down in his face. He had a strong jawline and high cheekbones. My eyes trailed down over him, the wide spread of his shoulders, how they just stretched right into his arms. His forearms flexed as his hands shifted in his pockets. I got stuck on the veins that ran along his arms. Something fluttered in my stomach.
Something like a rainfall smell filled the air around me. Was that his cologne?
He cleared his throat, making me snap my eyes up to his. The corners of his lips tipped up. I felt my face flame with heat. I was openly checking him out, and to make it worse, he had caught me.
"Lunch is served. I thought I would ask if you mind joining me?" I could hear the amusement in his voice,
I blinked as I looked at him. He was asking me to eat with him. He helped this morning and now lunch.
"Why?" I couldnt help but ask, Why would a prince ask a lowly wolfless human to eat with him. I shook my head, "I mean, I just didnt understand why you would ask me? Im no one important here Im sure there is someone else worth eating with other than me."
His eyes grew darker as he stepped closer, making me take a step back. "Who filled your pretty little head with nonsense? ever memeber in this pack is an important person to the pack, and you are part of this pack, and I like your company, you do not seem to want to talk to me just because of what you can get from me, and I would rather eat with you and talk to you than someone fake."
I swear his clonge got so strong just now, did a draft come thorugh cause now it was so strong, but I made me feel odd, not in a bad way, but in a calm way, the scent settled over me.
I was shocked at his answer. I know he holds power, I know Im not in the same league as he is or the others from here. But he was asking me. There was something about him I couldn't put my finger on; same as Reggie, he made me laugh at his silliness. My manners suddenly kicked in.
"Yes, I would like to eat with you."
The smile that broke out on his face was so big you would have thought I just agreed to some major deal with him, but it wasnt it was only lunch.
Stepping out, I pulled the door closed. He moved back, giving me space, and we made our way towards the dining hall. We didnt say anything, but it wasn't awkward. Silence, I felt calm and comfortable as we walked along. But that all left me the minute we arrived at the dining hall. Everyone stopped talking when we stepped in. All heads turned to look at us. I suddenly didnt want to go in there, I wanted to retreat to the room. Their stares were suffocating me. I felt myself stepping backward. A big hand landed on the middle of my back. There was again his clonge wrapping around me so strongly this time more than it was back in the room.
What was it, and why did I keep smelling it so strongly? And why did it make my heart flutter?
