Anastasia - After Work

380 Words
I finally walked into the apartment I shared with Devin. He wasn’t home yet, so I guessed it was a late night in the office for him. My little black kitten, Mittens, glided towards me purring. I smiled and bent down to pet her, “I guess diner is just gonna be you and me tonight. Huh, Mittens?” I cooed. I then go up and texted Devin to see what time he was going to be home. After I finished I pace my phone on the kitchen table and walked over to the cabinet that contained a bottle of white wine. I pulled it down along with a wine glass. I set them both on the counter and began to see if we had any Alfredo sauce so I could make pasta to go with my wine. I then heard my phone vibrate again the wooden table. I slightly rushed over there in hopes that it was a job trying to contact me. It wasn’t, it was just Devin.             “Hello?” I answered and tried to sound enthusiastic that he called even though I was still slightly disappointed.             “Hey, do you want me to pick something up or something?” He asked me.             For whatever reason, that was his response to are you going to be working late. I shook my head, for a future attorney he avoided questions more like a politician, “No, I’m cooking pasta tonight.” I informed him.             “Ah, okay.” He said, “I’ll be home in a few.” He told me. I smiled slightly since I finally got an answer to my first question.             “Okay, love you.” I said. He told me he loved me back and hung up. I went back to cooking dinner and drinking wine.               “So how was your day, love?” Devin asked me. Devin had nearly the same complexion as my mother. Dark, dark cocoa smooth skin. He was very tall, about six three. He had the prettiest smile I had ever seen, his teeth so white and straight, naturally straight at that. He graduated at a historically black all male college. I met him while I was visiting Miranda in Atlanta.
