Chapter 15: The Fifth Suitor – Burak

250 Words
Luna could no longer resist her mother’s pressure. Deep down, she still had doubts, but part of her wanted to keep testing the apple’s power. The fifth suitor was Burak. Her mother had described him excitedly: “A brilliant software developer, working abroad, coming back to Turkey soon. Perfect for you!” That evening, Luna met Burak at a café. With his black-rimmed glasses, slightly messy hair, and shy demeanor, he stood out from the previous suitors right away. He spoke softly, chatting about his software projects, artificial intelligence, and coding. For a moment, Luna smiled; at least someone was genuinely passionate about something. But as the conversation went on, Luna felt a strange emptiness. Burak seemed more interested in computers than in people. When she spoke, his eyes drifted toward his coffee cup instead of meeting hers. Luna wondered silently: “Would I spend my life competing with a machine?” That night, back home, Luna picked up the apple again. She lay down, heart lightly pounding, and took a small bite. One bite… As her eyes closed, she found herself in a room. Burak was at his computer, headphones on, eyes glued to the screen. Luna excitedly tried to share some news, but Burak only nodded absentmindedly. One day, two days, three days… the dream sped forward. Luna felt increasingly invisible, as if they were together but living in separate worlds. When her eyes snapped open, Luna took a deep breath. This wasn’t what she wanted. Not again.
