Why is it so dark? And why is the room so warm, I always sleep in the cold? And the smell… The smell is unfamiliar. Why the hell am I so dizzy, I need to find the window. Wait? Where the hell is the window?
Lena sat up in the bed with a rush and looked around. Her head was throbbing and her eyes were shimmering, however, she ignored it and got up quickly. What the hell happened? She tried to remember how she got there while simultaneously trying to figure out where she was. She looked for a door, a lamp, something when suddenly a person spoke.
“Ah, up at last. Quite the Sleeping Beauty I must say, although, I’d appreciate it if you’d refrain from quoting me on that. I do enjoy living, and you never know what may send you to the grave.”
A man sat in an armchair on the other side of the room. Although he had a small reading lamp, Lena couldn’t really see him, but he looked quite relaxed with a book on his lap.
“Who the hell are you, and where the f**k am I?”
The man started to laugh. He laid his book on the table next to the chair and stood up.
“Well well, the girl has a bite! You know, that does make me happy. Given that I’ve only seen you in a fragile state, I kind of feared you to be, well… fragile. You know Disney princess circa 1950’s. Well, Sleeping Beauty I suppose.”
He was close to her now.
“Nothing against Disney princesses, but they are a bit boring really.” He smirked at her.
He was tall. Lena was slightly above average in height, but this guy was at least a head taller than her. However, he wasn’t broad but quite slender. He wore black clothes and sunglasses. Lena could sense he had authority but she wasn’t intimidated.
“No, I am not a Disney princess. So can you please answer me before I go Maleficent on your ass. Thanks”
She gave him a sarcastic smile and looked at him. The man started to laugh.
“I like you, Sleeping Beauty. And I must say, you have quite the aura surrounding you. Maybe I’ll call you Aurora, since it fits so well, you know, it being Sleeping Beauty’s real name.”
He took off his sunglasses and Lena looked into his narrow eyes, while he stepped so close to her, that they had to bend their heads to look at each other.
“But really though… With that kind of aura you must have Alpha blood. Tell me, are there any Alphas in your family tree?”
Lena looked at him without losing eye contact. But then she remembered. My family? My brothers! Lena turned away from the man and felt panic consuming her.
"Lucas! Lucas can you hear me!"
But then she remembered; he couldn’t answer her. She felt her heart racing and tried to find an exit. She spotted a door and ran for it. She pulled on the handle, but it was locked. She then kicked the door. Nothing.
“Yeah, you’re not going to get out unless I let you out, so you might as well just save your energy.”
Lena looked at the man who was standing quite relaxed with his hands in his pocket. She felt anger consuming her and she ran back to him.
“Where are they?! Where are my brothers?!”
The man didn’t flinch and smirked.
“Ah, your brothers. I’m guessing you’re referring to the two pups trespassing. Ballsy move, I must say, not that many dare stepping unto these lands. Mainly ‘cause most who do step unto it don't return.”
Lena felt the blood leaving her face, and a shimmer went through her body. What did he just say? Did he just imply that...
“However, we don’t see any real gain in taking out children and wounded women, so we just took you in.”
He gave another smirk. Lena, trying to regain her senses, looked at him coolly.
“Can I please see them?”
The man put his sunglasses on again and went back to the armchair where he picked up some stuff.
“Well you’re in luck, ‘cause my orders are to take you there already. We just needed you to wake up first. However, you may want a shower.”
The man opened a door next to the armchair that Lena hadn’t noticed before. The light from the other room consumed the room they were standing in and she saw the man more clearly now. He was tall and slender, however, she could now see that he was muscular even if he was slim. He had dark, red hair and was quite tan. A lot tanner than she was at least. He handed her the pile of stuff.
“There you go, this should make you feel normal again.”
She looked at the pile. It was clothes and some toiletries. She then proceeded to the bathroom. Once in there she closed the door and put down the pile of stuff. She looked around; the place was huge and it looked newly refurbished. Then she noticed her reflection in the mirror. Her face was covered in dirt and her hair was grey from dust and sticky with blood. I look insane, she thought.
She took off her clothes. What is this? This is not my clothes but then recalled that her clothes had ripped when she changed into her wolf and that she had been naked the last time she remembered. She stepped into the shower and scrubbed until the water going down the drain was clear. She then wrapped a towel around her and looked in the mirror once again. Her long, wavy hair had gone back to its color and her skin was pale and smooth again. Her face had some bruises. Her bottom lip had a cut in it and her left eye was slightly purple but besides that her face was fine. Her body, however, had bruises and scrapes all over it. Especially her left shoulder looked insane. f*****g Ivan, I’ll get that son of a b***h back. But then she remembered; Ivan was dead. The big, black wolf had killed him. The thought of the black wolf made her shiver and she felt her own wolf stir inside of her. Mate. My wolf said “mate”. She shook her head. I don’t need a mate. Besides, I was so weak, I probably just reacted to someone saving me. But while thinking that, she could feel her wolf growl.
All of the sudden there was a knock on the door.
“Hey, have you fallen asleep again?”
“Two seconds, I just need to get some clothes on.”
She pulled on the underwear, black jeans and white t-shirt she was given and opened the door.
“Damn girly, you clean up good.”
The man was holding out a black leather jacket and a pair of black ankle boots. Lena looked at him annoyed.
“Thanks, but my name is Lena, not girly, Sleeping Beauty or anything else.”
She ripped the jacket and boots from the man in annoyance and put it on. The man laughed.
“Fair enough, then let’s get going.”
He took out a key and opened the door Lena had tried to get through just earlier. He held it open.
“After you.”
Just as she passed him he stopped her briefly.
“Oh and I’m Patrick, Patrick Jones, but you can call me Pat.”
He pushed his sunglasses down a bit and gave her a small wink before letting her pass. Lena stepped outside and was stunned. She was standing in a huge, marble corridor. She looked around. This is… breathtaking…
She felt an arm touch her, guiding her to the direction on the right.
“Welcome to Maroon Manor, Lena.”
