They were back at the mansion, and everytime they passed a room Jessica would say something about it. Finally, they arrived at a door and Jessica opened it. Lena walked into the room and was completely speechless.
“So yeah, this is your room. Bathroom is to the left, closet is over here and you know; the bed, mirror and stuff. Does it look okay?”
Lena nodded and looked at Jessica.
“Yes. I mean, this room is almost the size of my house.”
Jessica looked at Lena a bit sceptically.
“You have a small house then, but sure thing.”
Lena looked outside the big glass doors that were the entry to a balcony. She approached and stopped by the doors. The view was amazing.
“Okay, so there are a couple of rules that I have been instructed to tell you. First, that balcony is off limits. Your room is adjacent to the Alpha’s room and the balcony stretches to both your quarters. The balcony will only be used by the Alpha and whomever he chooses to invite out on it.”
Lena stepped back a bit and nodded.
“Great. Now, with the exception of Neil we don’t believe that you or your brothers are spies. However, the Alpha doesn’t take chances so you will be wearing this at all times.”
She handed Lena a bracelet with a small token on it.
“This will track your whereabouts. It can sense your pulse, so if you take it off it will alert a whole bunch of people. So you know, don’t take it off, ‘kay?”
Lena put on the bracelet and nodded once more.
“Also, here you go.”
Jessica handed Lena a phone.
“I have made sure it contains my number, Pat’s, Julia’s, and your brothers’ numbers. Those are the only numbers you will need really. Call me in case you need to go somewhere, Patrick if it’s about your former pack or whatever, and Julia for medical things. Oh, and the number of the front desk in case you need something else.”
Lena looked at the phone. For some reason she was disappointed that she didn’t have the number of the Alpha. Not that she wanted to use it, but she felt as if its absence was a statement. As to answer her thoughts Jessica spoke again.
“Lastly, don’t approach or talk to the Alpha yourself. If you need to speak to him, then you will have to go through me or Patrick. Then the Alpha decides if he wants to speak to you. And you know, other than that don’t walk into places you don’t belong in, don’t make snarky comments or be disobedient, et cetera.”
Jessica raised her eyebrows and looked at Lena for confirmation that she understood.
“Got it.”
“Awesome. Anyway, I know this is sort of a weird ass situation and all, but I’m here if you need me. Fair warning, I’m not a softy, so if that’s what you like in a friend then count me out. But you gave me a ‘no bullshit’ kinda vibe earlier, and that was pretty balls so I’m slightly intrigued. Plus, and I’m sorry if this hurts you, but I’m pretty much one of the only female wolves who haven’t f****d the Alpha, so there is that.”
Lenas stomach pinched, but she kept her face still as to not give away that it bothered her that the Alpha screwed around a lot.
“In context with that, how many knows, you know, that we’re...?”
“The people you met earlier basically. Except your brothers, you choose if you wanna tell them yourself. It’s only his most intrusted people who know, and I honestly don’t think we would have known either if it wasn’t for the fact that you were so beaten and broken he couldn’t shield his emotions. He’s usually really good at that.”
“Yeah I noticed.”
Lena wanted to ask what kind of emotions he had shown, but she bit her tongue. Jessica looked at her and raised an eyebrow.
“Well you’re pretty pro at hiding your emotions as well. Both of you talked as if you were business partners. Granted, I haven't met a lot of fated mates, but the ones I have met have been all over each other from the beginning. So like good for you that you didn’t run for him and declared your feelings, but that s**t’s apparently hard to controle.”
Lena looked at her feet.
“I’m engaged, remember? And I knew he knew that. So even if I wasn’t able to contain myself, then at least that would stop me.”
“Oh come on, you don’t love the fiancé, so why should that stop you. And yeah yeah, I know it’s like a sacred moon promise, but fated mates are pretty sacred too y’know? So like I see it as a win really. You ditch the old, potential child killer one and get a new, strong, sexy mate. Or what, do you love the man you’re running away from? ‘Cause that’s honestly a bit messed up.”
Lena looked at Jessica coolly. Is she trying to be supportive or is she just quizzing me for information?
“No, I don’t love Marcello. But it’s not that simple.”
Lena Gave Jessica a look that stated that she wasn’t going to talk about it. Jessica raised her eyebrows and walked towards the door.
“Fine, whatever. I have no real need of knowing. So, should we head down to your brothers maybe? I’m sure you must be starving by now.”
Lena nodded and followed Jessica. When they got out in the corridor she looked at the other door further down. That must be the door to his room. She looked away again and they exited.
They had walked for a while. At last they reached a kitchen on the ground floor right by the main entrance. Lucas and Cody sat waiting accompanied by Julia. They were having a conversation and Lucas was talking.
“... so yeah, that’s pretty cool I guess.”
“What’s pretty cool?”
Lena sat down and looked at Lucas. There was food placed at the table they were sitting by and Lena filled her plate. Lucas shifted a bit but then spoke again.
“The Alpha has offered to train me. You know, to see what I can do.”
Lena’s pulse raised. She knew that Lucas wasn’t a real thread to Logan Black but she still felt uneasy. An Alpha never trained anyone with the exception of their own sons, and even that wasn’t very common. This was the job of an ordinary warrior wolf really. Lena squinted a bit and looked at Lucas.
“Oh relax, he just wants to test me and see where I’m at. You don’t need to be so big-sistery.”
“Seriously Lucas? It’s been four days since we fled from Alpha Marcello, and now you want to put your full trust in another Alpha?”
Lucas picked at his food nervously.
“Well, yeah. But you know when I retake the Bloodwood pack, or Ashwood pack, then we can be like allies. And in that case Alpha Logan would be smart to have a strong ally, right?”
Lena looked at her brother and laughed lightly. This made Lucas angry.
“Whatever Lena, you’re such a hypocrite. You were trained by Alpha Marcello when you were about my age.”
Lena froze. Jessica and Julia looked wide eyed at Lena who didn’t know what to say. She took in a breath of air and refound her composure.
“Marcello wasn’t an Alpha at the time, his brother was, and he was assigned the training of a junior wolf like every other wolf who had finished their training. Besides, I was fifteen and he was nineteen. You are thirteen and Alpha Logan is what…”
Lena looked to Julia who swallowed some food before she answered.
“Twenty-four.”
“Right, twenty-four. He’s almost twice your age and way stronger than you. You’re still just a kid if you had forgotten.”
Lucas’ eyes narrowed as he picked at his food again, but this time he seemed more angry when doing so. The tension was high.. Let Lucas be pissed, he’s just a hotheaded teenager. Lena turned to her youngest brother instead.
“Well what about you Teddy, what have you been up to?”
Cody smiled and started talking, but at the same time Lena saw a car pull in front of the kitchen’s windows. It parked and out walked Logan Black, but he wasn’t alone. A beautiful brunette stepped out from the passenger seat. Logan put his arm around her waist as they entered the building. Lena felt broken as she watched them smiling.
“Lena?”
Cody looked at her with concern in his eyes. She looked at the others and all of them were watching her carefully. Only Jessica seemed to know what had happened.
“I’m so sorry Teddy, I zoned out a bit. I think my body is still trying to regain its energy and it’s been a long day. What were you saying?”
Cody gave a small smile and hugged Lena.
“Nevermind, I’ll tell you tomorrow after you have slept.”
She squeezed her brother back. At least Cody’s still as sweet as ever. They sat and ate their dinner. Julia and Cody started talking about some show or something and Lucas cheered up as he and Jessica spoke about the forest. However, Lena couldn’t shake the gnawing feeling in her stomach after having seen Logan and that woman. Eventually she gave up and rose from the table.
“Want me to follow you to your room?”
Jessica looked at her knowingly, but Lena wasn’t in the mood for compassion or talking.
“No, I think I can find my way back, thanks though. Lucas, Cody, I’ll see you guys tomorrow, okay?”
They both nodded as Lena smiled and gave a small wave.
When she found her room she washed up and prepared for bed. She felt too exhausted to find something to sleep in and fell to the bed in the robe from the bathroom, yet she couldn’t sleep. Her thoughts were consumed with the image of Logan and that woman. Besides, the room was too warm, so she tossed around trying to get comfortable.
After an hour of trying to sleep she gave up and decided to get some air in. She looked for a window, but the only thing to open was the door to the balcony. She sighed. Well it’s not like I’m using the balcony just the doors. She pushed the door open and felt the cool wind against her. She smiled lightly and turned back to the bed when she heard something. She turned back around to the door and stepped to the edge. It was silent at first but then the sound came back. It was a woman moaning. She felt a pain in her chest as she realised that it came from the room adjacent to her own - Alpha Logan’s room.
She knew she should close the doors, go back to bed, and try to forget it. But she couldn’t. She stepped outside on the balcony. Between Lena’s room and Alpha Logan’s room stood a small wooden wall that sort of separated the areas. However, it didn’t divide the balcony totally. She slid down sitting against it as she listened to a woman being f****d by her fated mate, her moans getting louder and higher in pitch. A wind blew past Lena towards the other room and just then she heard Logan finish in an intense growl. There was some light panting and then it got silent. Sitting on the floor of the balcony Lena felt tears falling on her cheek. After a while she closed her eyes and dozed off.
