CHAPTER EIGHT If there was anything that could make life miserable, it was a bad partner. Brisbane knew this, better than anyone. He’d had his share of difficult colleagues, and he wanted to make sure this relationship didn’t go south on the very first day. He wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, after their rocky start where she’d looked at him like a glob of gum on the bottom of her shoe. So he pressed his lips closed and tried to let Rylie Wolf, the pretty little spitfire who obviously hated him, take the lead. Why did she hate him? Had he done something to her? He usually got everyone to like him. That was his superpower. So was there something wrong with her . . . or with him? She was clearly comfortable in the driver’s seat.
