Chapter 1

1462 Words
Max Pov     When I felt the pull as we crossed to the pack territory, I got nervous. Not for me, but my family meeting the people who made me do things that I deeply regret. The past has a way to bite you in the butt. I just hope this one doesn’t take over my soul. The bad news is that we have to stop by that pack to say our regards. Later we will go to our territory and start planning our meets with Redmoon, to help them with the rogue problem. Robert told me I don’t have to get out of the car, but I feel the need to see Miles' face. As it will fall in dread, seeing me happy and alive.     That will be sweet. I sound so petty. Either way, I will really enjoy this. The car stopped in the pack house, a place I had yet to forget two years ago. There were a lot of pack members outfront. It seems they know about what we came here to do. Help their sorry butts. Dad and mom got out first, then Nathan followed them. Leaving Robert and me alone.              “Are you sure?” He asked me.             “Yeah, I have to, it’s good for me. Running from my past won’t help me at all.” I said with determination. Admiring his kindness and understanding.             “I will be by your side, no matter what.” He said, meaning every word.             “I know, I will do it in a heartbeat for you too.” I told him.             “Let’s do this.” He said, getting out of the car and giving me his hand to help me get out of the car.             “A real gentleman, I am lucky to have you.” I said, smiling. He got embarrassed by my words. I wanted to kiss him so bad.             “I will reserve the thoughts passing through my head at the moment.” He said, giving me space to get out.             “Good boy.” I said, laughing at him. He must be thinking something dirty, for sure.     We started to walk directly to Mom and Dad. They were besides two people I knew pretty well. Jake and Jennifer, it feels like yesterday that they came to greet us when we first came to the pack. No Derek in sight, like that day.     The gasp that was heard was to be expected. I saw the pale face of Derek 's parents when they saw my face. The rest of the pack was shocked. Silence took over and Robert was trying not to laugh.              “Don’t you dare, babe!” I warned him. He was close to losing himself in laughter.             “I am sorry.” He said, before giving in and laughing out loud, really hard. I am so close to smacking him over the head.             “ROBERT!!! Stop this nonsense,” Father said to Robert, I move a little to the side. In case anything comes flying this way. Father won’t hesitate to take his shoes off and throw them at him.              “I can-n-n’t.” He barely got that out.              “Don’t patronize me child.” Uh-oh, Robert, you better stop before he does it. Again. I had to do it, if not, I will end in the middle of the crossfire. I am sorry, babe. It’s for your own good. My hand smacked the back of his head, shocking him and stopping his laughter.              “Babeeee. Why? That hurt!” He whined.             “You know why, either way you were gonna get hit. Father was going to throw his shoes at you and by luck, I know it would have hit me too. Not the first time you do this, you use me as a shield.” I reprimanded him. He acts as a child, more than Nathan himself.              “Oh, yeah. Sorry about that.” He said.             “Sure, now let’s go to Mom and Dad.” I said to him, already going to said location. Each step I took made me dread my decision to get out of the car. My breath was getting heavy, but Robert's presence was helping a little. I won’t let them affect me. It’s going to be the other way around.             “Nice not, seeing you again, Jake, Jennifer.” I said to the ex Alpha and Luna of the pack.             “How? I thought you were dead. How dare you show your face here again.” Jennifer said, elevating her hand to slap me, but was stopped by Robert.             “Don’t even try. You won’t like to be on my bad side. Even if you are already in it.” Robert growls at them.             “Don’t touch my mate.” Jake said, taking her mate's hand back.             “Then don’t try to touch mine.” He stated, shocking everyone. It’s really rare to get a second chance mate. What they didn’t know is that their son was my second chance. If we go with the fact that Robert is my true mate.             “Mate? You got a second chance mate?” Jake said, looking at me.              “No, he is my true mate.” I said with pride.              “That is absurd. Even if true mates exist, a person like you isn’t deserving of such a gift.” Jennifer scoffed, looking me up and down. Like I was a piece of gum beneath her shoes.             “You don’t have to belief, what you think doesn’t matter to me.” I answered her.              “Anyway, we came here to greet you guys. Tomorrow we will come back to plan a strategy to help you with the rogue problem. “ Dad said, cutting the tension in the air.             “We don’t need help.” Jake scoffed. How prideful, they should be left to their own device. Maybe then, they will come begging on their knees for our help.             “Believe me, you guys are a terrible pack. Barely able to survive. We don’t have to help, and the help comes from Mom, Dad and my mate. Not from me, I only help people who deserve it.” I explained. They needed to get off their high horse. Their problems are that, theirs. I will only protect my family and pack.             “The nerve you have to disrespect us in our own territory.” Jake said, putting his face close to mine. Provoking Robert, yet again. Who pushed him away from me. This is setting a bad example for Nathan.  ‘Can you take Nathan to the car, Jordan?’ I said to Robert’s brother through the mind link.   ‘Sure, Maxy.’ He responded. ‘Thank you, and don’t call me that, Jordy.’ I replied back, giving him the same medicine. ‘Don’t use that, pleaseee.’ He whined, he always does this and can’t take the heat back. ‘Likewise, Jordan.’ I said in amusement. ‘I am just gonna take Nathan.’ He said, taking a deep breath. I had to hold in a laugh. When I saw Nathan inside the car, I concentrated on the situation in front of me again.             “Again, don’t touch my mate and stop disrespecting him.” Robert said to Jake and everyone here. As a warning for anyone who tries to do it. I felt a shift in the air, someone else is coming this way. A person that I was dreading to see again.             “You came, I was happy thinking you were dead, brother.” Miles said as soon as he got out of the pack house.             “The feeling is mutual, at least with not wanting to see you ever again. I may hate you, but I am not like you.” I answered him.             “How noble.” He said with sarcasm.             “Can’t say the same about you.” I said to him. It seems to bother him. Good. He wanted to mess with me.             “How funny. Who are these people?” He asked Jennifer.             “The pack that came to help.” She said, rolling her eyes.             “And what does that make him?” He pointed at my face. What a rude guy.             “My mate and the Luna of our pack.” Robert said with his head held high.             “What? Impossible!” He said in disbelief.             “What is? Me having a mate? Or being a better Luna than you?” I sass at him.             “Both, because they can’t be more wrong.” He said looking at Jennifer, refusing to see me eye to eye. We finally meet Miles. This will be part of your nightmare. You won’t be at ease with me here. I will make sure of it.
