Night Run

1045 Words
Day- We ran for the rest of the night, our wolves pouncing on each other and dashing between aspens and fir trees like lovestruck pups. I could tell she was having the time of her life and it made my heart soar. I was obligated to do anything to make her happy. I almost lost track of time with her it was as if time stood still. We stopped at a nearby spring to get water. I nuzzled her neck with my muzzle as she was lapping up water from the brook. She returned the favor instinctually, then bowed down playfully to pounce at me. I grinned a toothy grin and let her bite me and shaking her head softly, like a pup trying to get its mother’s attention. I rolled on my back to show my belly in false submission. She laid next to me and nibbled my neck lazily. My ears perked at the sound of motion in the bushes. I quickly rolled back onto my belly and crouched low to the ground. She followed my lead but kept behind me slightly. I sniffed the air briefly and grew excited when I detected the scent of venison. I was unable to link with Night since she is not a pack member but I silently nudged the air forward to signal her to follow my lead. We snuck towards the deer on our bellies and through the woods until we could see the large buck in a small clearing directly ahead of us. We were downwind of our prey which worked in our favor. I knew we had to approach from both sides so I motioned Night to creep to the other side of the buck. She was a pro and crept through the woods undetected until she was behind the beast. Unfortunately this put Night upwind from the creature which caused the buck to detect her. He lifted his head and seemed alarmed by her presence, but if I was correct he would run right into my trap. Night snarled behind the buck which caused him to retreat towards me. My fangs were ready to sink into the buck’s throat. I leaped as the buck was close enough, and my fangs sank into flesh. I could see Night tailing the buck and leaped onto the animals rear. The buck tried to kick her off which caused my wolf to snarl and tore out its trachea to protect my mate from being kicked in the head. I initially underestimated my own ability to take the buck down, and if Night hadn’t been there I probably would not have even attempted a chase. I waited for the beast to become still before checking on Night, who was laying on the ground. My heart raced in a panic, so I shifted back to my human form. “Night! Please tell me you’re not hurt,” I pleaded. She was breathing heavily but lifted her head as she shifted back to human form as well. I held her face between my hands to make sure she was not injured or had any lacerations. I did not see any blood, but noticed her eyes were the color of rainclouds. One of my hands brushed back a stray strand of her onyx colored hair. Kiss her, i***t, my wolf growled. Before I could lean in, she kissed me. At first it was a simple peck, then I held the back of her head and kissed her more passionately. The warmth spread throughout my entire body, and I could feel myself grow excited from her soft lips. Before I could make another move she was sitting on top of me, which surprised me but excited me even more. My back was on the leaf strewn ground, her hair fell around my face as she held my face while kissing me more. I felt her soft warm tongue against my lips, but if I let this go much further I wouldn’t be able to control myself. “Someone is excited,” I panted a amorously. She let out a small gasp, “I don’t know what got into me. I guess the hunt got me a little turned on. I’ve never been apart of a team like that, and our chemistry works perfectly. This is going a little fast, isn’t it? I mean I just met you tonight.” “Night, love, I would love to keep going. Trust me, I’m a male,” I laughed. “I don’t know if ‘too fast’ is in a male’s dictionary. I have to meet up with my friends soon to go hunting for our Feast.” “Looks like you have your hunt taken care of,” she smirked but seemed to pout after. “I don’t want to let you go.” “I know, and I don’t want to go, Nightingale,” I sighed. “Come with me back to the pack.” “I-I can’t,” she hesitated and looked away. “I will protect you, you know that,” I assured her. “But I won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to. I will be back, I promise.” “Take the buck with you, then you can come back the big Alpha hero,” she grinned. I kissed her forehead tenderly, and hoisted the large buck over my shoulders. Most wolves would not be able to carry the load alone, but as an Alpha it was not much of a challenge. “Goodnight, Alpha,” she whispered as she stole one last hug from me. I watched her shift and take off into the woods, I assumed back to Crescent Pond. I made the way back through the woods towards my home as the sky lightened. The sun broke the horizon when I was on the edge of the woods. “Where is he? He said to be here at daybreak, if I would have known he would be late I would have slept in,” I heard Delphie, and she sounded exasperated. I broke through the woods with the buck, and choked back a laugh when I saw Fen’s incredulous face. “What?” I asked hardly able to withhold my laughter.
