Sapphire exhaled. "You've got this." She tried convincing herself with encouraging words, but she knew within her that if they were to award the pathological liar of the year, she'd come first.
Standing in front of the mirror, she admired the red lingerie she was putting on. Tiny thongs that barely covered her p***y. Sexy lacy red fringe danced around the edges, not doing much to cover the p***y, but a little bit better compared to the thong. The upper part had the same lacy straps, partially covering her stomach, and leaving the bellybutton exposed. For her boobs, a bra-like cup covered only the n*****s—her back, only the bra strap.
"Don't think too much," she told her reflection, before sitting on the bed.
8:30 PM
"Why isn't he back?" She reached for her phone, thinking of calling him.
He had been gone for a long time. He didn't stay long at the after-party before he left. She had attended the party with Alyssa and a few of his associates, bored by his abesence. Since then, not a single call from him.
"Is he thinking..." She shook off the thoughts as if they were poison. "No. Wilson loves me."
She checked the time again—8:40 PM.
A call came to her phone. Alyssa's name flashed brightly on the screen.
She stared at the ringing call, knowing the exact reason Alyssa was calling.
"You picked!" Alyssa screamed from the other end. "I thought you're supposed to be taken to cloud nine by now! The hell are you guys doin' by this time!"
"Wil...son...we can do it. I... promise I won't flinch... Oh, Lys, sorry I picked the call by mistake. My baby and I are..."
"My God, Phire... I'm sorry for the interruption," she paused, then continued in a lower and more concerned tone. "You don't have to force it if you feel scared. Wilson is understanding. I know he won't think of hurting you."
"Thanks Lys. Now, if you don't leave the newlyweds alone, how are we gonna do the real deal?"
"Love ya, bye!"
Sapphire slowly lowered the phone, feeling the guilt in her chest for lying to Alyssa.
What could she do? Most newlyweds are usually together by this time of the day, and her—she hadn't even spoken to her husband.
9:00 PM.
"I give up." She stood and dialed Wilson's number.
First call—not available.
Second call—disconnected.
Third call—he answered.
Her ears caught a familiar sound.
"Stop disturbing us!"
The call ended.
She looked at her phone screen, rechecking the number she had called.
Wilson's number was clearly saved on the phone.
Then, whose was that lady's voice? What was that sound? It didn't sound like—
Her hands trembled as she dialed the number again.
He answered.
"I told you to... Wil's—"
"Who are you?" Sapphire's lips quivered.
"Who's calling?"
Sapphire heard that voice from the background. A voice she could swear a million times she could recognize even in her sleep.
"Must...be...your...petty...wife! Ah! Hold on, baby."
Sapphire couldn't feel her body moving. It felt like her body had been glued to a spot as the sinful sound filled not only her ears but the room.
The sound got louder. The voice got clearer, and bringing down the phone, her eyes met the shock of her life.
The call had been switched to a video call, and on the bed was her husband—naked, sweating, looking like he was having the time of his life as a woman rode him.
The phone slipped from her hand. She staggered, using the bed to support herself.
"Understand! Now leave us alone!"
She only came back to reality when the phone beeped. Call ended.
Hastily, she picked up the phone, dialing Wilson's number again.
Switched off.
Tears blurred her eyes; the only image she could see clearly was Wilson in bed with another woman. Her heart ached. It felt like a knife sharper than anything was slicing through it. Each slice giving her a new different layer of pain she hadn't experienced before.
She shook her head and rubbed her palms across both cheeks. "It can't be my Wilson. It just can't."
Rushing to the wardrobe, she took the first thing her hand came in contact with. A bathrobe.
Without bothering to tie it, she dashed out of the room. The cold tiles slapped against her feet as she had forgotten to wear her flip-flops. The only thing in her head was the video.
Getting outside, the cold breeze brushed against her skin. The robe danced behind her, and her hair bounced on her back as she ran past the car and went straight for the main gate.
She didn't need a security card. Her details had been saved in it. She ran out of the gate, into the street.
Her eyes had caught the window of the room. A banner appeared in the video, and only one hotel in Las Vegas had that fancy banner close to it. MEMO HOTEL.
Like a crazy woman, she ran. The world spun around her, the breeze got heavier, and the crickets sang like it was some choir. Yet, she ran, not minding any of those, or even the danger that the night held.
The few people that were on the street, she whipped past them, barely seeing their reaction to a lady who was supposed to be in her matrimonial bed with her husband, running in the street with her lingerie partially out like she had lost it.
Forty-five minutes later, she was at the hotel. She panted, gasping heavily; she thought she might collapse on the spot.
Catching a little breath, she rushed to the receptionist's table. "I... Wilson's room number. Wilson DeVille."
The receptionist gave her a strange look, from her head down to where the high table stopped her from going further.
"I'm sorry, but—"
"Wilson DeVille's room number!"
The receptionist shuddered.
"Ma'am, we don't—"
Sapphire spotted a pen on the table. With no second thought, she grabbed the pen, dragged the woman by the collar and pointed the pen to her neck.
"Will you give me the number, or do I have to shed blood to get it!"
"Ma'am, you can get—ouch!" Her skin tore open, a sharp pain going through her.
"Room 1011!"
Sapphire dropped both the pen and the woman, and ran upstairs.
It's not true. It's not true. Not my Wilson.
She kept mumbling until she got to the front door.
Looking up, the number plate glared boldly at her.
She didn't lean on the door to listen. All she needed was to confirm the video herself, even though it sounded foolish. A live video from Wilson's number couldn't be fake.
Yet, she grabbed the knob and twisted it.
Then and there, the remaining hope shattered. Wilson was by the wardrobe while the girl was on her knees, giving him head.
Not being able to handle it, she closed the door and held her chest. Every tear she had been trying to hold in began rolling down. Hundreds at a time.
She wiped them. More poured out.
She held the knob again and went in fully.
"Wilson!"
Quickly they disengaged.
"Great, your wife had to ruin it," the lady hissed, and got back on her knees.
She picked the glass of juice and tasted it, not bothering to hide her nakedness.
Her eyes were locked on Wilson. On the man who called himself her husband. The one who was looking at her like she had interrupted something important, rather than his wife catching him cheating on her, and that too, on their supposed wedding night.
"Why?" Sapphire didn't know how, but she found her voice.
"Why what?" Wilson asked, with a smile. Not sweet, rather sly and cunning. A version of Wilson she would give up her life while trying to prove that version of him didn't exist.
"Oh, you mean her? Yvonne?" He acted ignorant, walked to her, and kissed her softly. "She is the one I love. The one I wanted to get married to."
Sapphire's breath caught, his words echoing in her head.
"Then what am I?" She sucked in a long breath. "Answer me! Why did you get married to me!"
"Easy." Yvonne dropped the glass with a soft clink, and walked up to them. "Screaming, and your condition don't go a long way. High blood pressure is real."
"You told her?" Sapphire's voice came out almost inaudibly.
"What do you think? Lovers shouldn't keep secrets away from each other. I don't have to remind you about this one because you know it well, right?"
Yvonne's hand traced down his erected c**k that was leaking precum. "Ignore the trash."
Wilson faced Yvonne, wrapped his arms around her, and rubbed their bodies together.
Sapphire marched up to him and forced him around. "If you didn't love me, why did you get married to me? Why did you lie to the whole world?! Why did you make me feel safe at the wedding when you know this is your plan?!"
"The wedding was a joke. Your dad wasn't even present. He doesn't value you and you dare to speak about love. You think a guy can love you?!" Wilson raised his voice, glaring at her with nothing but pure hatred and disgust. "There is no difference between you and a robot! A woman who flinches at the smallest of affection! A hug! I couldn't even kiss my so-called bride at the wedding because she was about to start shaking!" He dragged his gaze down her body.
"You even bought a lingerie! A robot in a human body! She was hoping for a wedding night. I am a human, and I have s****l feelings. Animals have feelings as well, but a robot, that is what you are! A frigid woman!"
Sapphire's hand flew to his cheek. "To hell with you!"
Yvonne's eyes widened. "How dare you lay your disgusting filthy hand on my man?!"
She returned the slap—twice.
Sapphire fell on the table, her body pushing down everything on it including the juice Yvonne was drinking.
Something cold touched her tongue. A metallic taste of blood.
Her eyes trailed to Yvonne's hand. She had a ring on her finger. The ring had busted her lips.
Sapphire's glare turned dark, and she traced her hand on the table, reaching for a broken piece of glass.
"You are nothing but a bastard, Wilson. A bastard!" She ran with all her might, aiming for Wilson's chest.
"Sapphire!"
Wilson whipped around like a flash. The glass met the door and shattered into shredded pieces, some pieces piercing her palm.
Wilson grabbed her hand, but she turned and took advantage of the opportunity.
Gripping his arm, she sank her teeth into his hand with everything in her.
"Argh! b***h!" He yanked her away.
Yvonne rushed to Wilson. "Are you okay?"
She fell on the floor, and her forehead hit the door.
She winced painfully.
"You won't get away with this." Yvonne went and picked up one of the broken bottles.
Sapphire saw Yvonne coming for her and tried to stand when she noticed Wilson holding her robe.
"Let go of me you bastard," Sapphire spoke in urgency.
Yvonne reached her.
Sapphire removed her hand from the robe and fled away from the room.
"b***h! I'm going to kill you. You dared to bite my Wilson!" She dropped the broken glass and went to Wilson.
"I told you she's a b***h. You should have dumped her on the altar—"
Wilson shut her up with a kiss. "Don't you trust me again?"
Yvonne smiled creepily. "I do."

By the time Sapphire ran out of the hotel, the street was almost empty. Her gaze was completely blurred, and the breeze got heavier. She didn't know if it was because of the weather, or the fact that she was running only in her lingerie.
She had no idea where to go, or whom to run to. The house was a no for her. Alyssa's house would mean bothering her, and her parents' house would not even be an option.
She was running with no direction, looking back repeatedly in case Wilson and his girlfriend were coming after her.
Looking forward, she got blinded by an upcoming car headlight.
"Ah!"
She missed her step and fell in front of the car. Her eyes hugged each other tightly as she thought the car would run into her.
Not feeling a thing, she slowly opened them, to meet the headlights still shining on her like some criminal.
Inside the car, the driver focused his eyes on her.
"Sir, it's Mrs. Sapphire DeVille...your brother's wife... she looks stranded, and is running in and—should we help her?" The way the words came out, it was as if he was speaking out everyone's confusion who had seen her that night.
From the back, no one could tell where Tristan had his eyes on.
Then his voice came out cold and authoritatively. "The next time you'll stop my car for something so irrelevant, that will be the day you'll hand the keys over."
