2.33 Salvage

Luca watched with cold eyes as the Harpy leader whipped one of her own across the face without provocation while she laughed. That shred of regret Luca had at the thought of the forth coming s*******r vanished. They’d started this fight and she couldn’t even be nice to her crew and found reasons to hurt them when there was no reason. When the leader waved the other out of her ‘sanctuary’ and closed the door Luca tapped the amber stone on his finger. It flashed and then afterwards Luca got green pings from his left, right and directly across indicating that there was no one around. Luca glanced at his team checking they were ready. Shade waved a hand and a faint dark mist settled around Luca. The Elder Dwarf hefted his web shooter, which looked a lot like a max pack water gun to Luca, but he wasn’t judging. Finally the young Gnome clutched at her two bottles of venom and gave Luca a determined nod. Luca gave her a reassuring smile and then lifted Lil’ Miss off his shoulders and set her down near Shade’s feet. The rest of the group sidled away from her with pale looks bus soon refocused on the Harpy Leader. Half the room that the Harpy stood in was blocked from sunlight. Just enough room to make it possible for a small Mygalomorph to attack. Luca flicked a hand and the Elder Dwarf fired. The web shot out. It was not the most accurate of shots, instead of hitting the upper back as they had planned it hit the lower back slightly to the left and partially on the wing. Bitting back a curse Luca jumped down and launched himself at her back. The original plan had been to hit her in centre of the upper back and haul her almost to the shaft and attack. However, with the miss hit if she was just hauled back the body would be partially turned and she would have the chance of seeing Luca attack. If there was a chance, she could see something and tell someone on her dying breath then the plan would be wasted. As the Harpy screamed Luca touched the floor and then jumped onto her back. He stabbed his daggers in on either side of her neck hard. After he paused for a few second to let the venom inject he jumped back. One dagger went back into its sheath and Luca tossed the two step knife points she’d removed from their sheaths earlier at the wall. The change gave him less room to step, basically making it impossible for the others to use but it also meant that it would be very unlikely for the knives to be spotted without a detailed search. Luca sincerely doubted the harpies were going to produce a through forensic investigation of the scene. Luca stepped quickly on the two knives and slid back into the maintenance shaft just as the Harpy’s screeching brought two more Harpies into the room. Luca forced the others backwards into the shaft letting the webbing to be tied off and disconnected from the gun. He didn’t think the Harpies could or would attempt to enter the shaft, but he wanted to be sure that they couldn’t see them if they did get the urge. At the same time Luca swooped down and grabbed Lil’ Miss and slung her onto his shoulders. He really wished he could have left her back at the main area with Rӓv, but she refused to stay that far away from Luca. The shaft to a room was the max distance she accepted when she was a round. When she vanished to who knows where it apparently didn’t matter. At this point Luca would actually settle for the reason she seemed so attached to him, unfortunately no one seemed to have the answer. Luca listened to the flustered squawking in the room trying to hear if the leader offered anything that would give the game away. At last when the flustered screeches faded Luca just managed to hear a curse, “Bedamned Mygalomorph. Monster.” That set off a new round of screeches followed by the clattering of retreating footsteps. That set off a chain reaction of panic across the ship. [Lucky: Rӓv did you guys get one?] [Ghost: Da. Da. Went well.] Luca edged back towards the entrance to see if the Harpies had done anything with the corpse. But paused mid step when Ghost responded. [Lucky: Ghost why are you responding? Where is Rӓv?] Luca’s question was met with echoing silence for a long moment before Rӓv responded in an exhausted tone. [Rӓv: I’m here, some moron took the control and managed to get it stuck in the room for a bit. I want a new partner.] [Lucky: Ghost if you mess this us it will be special training when we get back.] [Ghost: Nyet, not messing up.] Luca nodded and then peered into the room. The corpse had been left where it had fallen. Luca was pleased that they wouldn’t have to go chasing the body all over the ship. “The question is how to fetch the hand and the bracelet without it looking odd if they come back to more the body?” Luca wondered aloud. The words were no sooner spoken when an answered was offered up. The source and solution while quite a clever disguise increased the fears of certain people. Lil’ Mis launched herself from Luca’s shoulders at the word fetch and be lined for the body. Luca took half a step forward just in time to get a clear view of all her teach and she chomped down on the arm just above the bracelet. As if she were biting jelly and not flesh and bone Lil’ Miss bit straight through and returned to Luca with her prize in mere moments. Luca was reminded that she had all the teeth. All. The. Teeth. Which when combined with a bite strength that was mulching steel handles meant that there was a whole lot of danger from that little mouth. Still Luca had been, feeding and having her hang on his shoulders for several days by this point he was more controlled than the others. So when they flinched away at Lil’ Miss’s return Luca just accepted the hand and let her settle back on his shoulders. She hadn’t used the teeth on him yet so it was fine. [Lucky: Moving to the second attack position.] Luca noted and then waved his group to move out to where they had planned for the second attack to happen. Whether that went through or not would depend on how fast the panic spread and what the general response was. They arrived at the second location and Luca looked suspiciously and the Harpy male that was seated cross legged in the empty storage room. It seemed he’d had no reaction to the commotion. Not willing to pass up the opportunity Luca signalled Amber and waited to get his three greens before they attacked. This one was better more accurate, and Luca was able to use the dagger to rip the throat out in a convincing motion. He died fast and silent.
