Luca reached the end of his tunnel and realised that he had somewhat underestimated the scale of the temple. It made the mountain cavern look small and yet it was more crowded than the beach the first day of summer. As Luca peered cautiously out of the tunnel a resounding clang of a gong sounded. The voices in discussion cut off immediately.
The fae swords were really inconvenient to keep holding. Really wish these had a sheath. No sooner had the thought crossed Luca’s mind when a dark green shimmer spread down the blades encasing them in a hard green case before the shimmer snapped out and wrapped around Luca’s waist. Luca stiffened in place but nothing else happened. Pulling one of the blades free Luca examined it before re-sheathing it. seemed all fine. No to mention he didn’t have the time to investigate the matter, so he’d just have to leave it and hope it didn’t kill him later.
“The door has been opened and the key held on the other side brought through. A bunch of Dawn land humans are here, find and capture the ones that have the keys kill the rest. We will have their world with those keys. Remember the keys will shield them for a moment from a strike that is how we’ll find them.” Luca couldn’t see clearly who it was that spoke as the dais was below where he stood. thus it was blocked by the edge of box below him. No way was Luca going to try and stick he head out to get a better look.
[Rӓv: I don’t know what they are saying but it didn’t sound good, I like the crowd reaction even less.]
[Lucky: They said they want the people with the crystals kill the rest.]
[Rӓv: I suddenly feel like a bounty. Hang on if I didn’t understand what they said how did you?]
[Ghost: More like tasty snack.]
[Lucky: I don’t know sounded just like English to me. If it’s all the same to you two I’d prefer to not be on the menu.]
[Tails: Oh damn.] Luca snapped his head to the left even though he couldn’t see anything.
[Lucky: What?]
[Holly: the idiots spotted the light at the exit.] Luca blinked as he didn’t see the problem with that they needed to reach the exit after all.
[Rӓv: there not charging at the exit after all…]
[Lucky: Surely not.]
[Tails: Ah yep.] Luca stared blankly at the wall for a moment and wanted to exclaim ‘but they’re supposed to be professionals.’ At the last minute the echoing silence below reminded Luca to bite the words off. It was a pity though that others were not as sensitive.
“Look there is the exit we can finally get out, that WIC company’s joke isn’t funny at all.” The loud voice resounded, and the monsters below turned their heads as one to stare at on of the exits off to Luca’s left. As the winged monsters took to the air Luca re-considered the exit plan.
[Lucky: Everyone remember Hikori Corps fav obstacle.]
[Rӓv: Oh no.]
[Lucky: Hot pops and go.] Luca backed up as Rӓv started swearing. Thankfully the cheerful exclamations and footsteps that sounded like a herd of elephants that echoed out of the other corridors masked the sound. Luca popped the pin on his hotpop and backed up. When the harpies gave a screech that sounded part joy part battle cry. That seemed as good a signal as any and so Luca tossed the hot pop hard in a rugby throw and then dashed forward.
With his focus narrowed to the shoulder of the harpy in front of him Luca hoped that the rest of his team had reached the same decision. Luca jumped out placing one foot on the startled harpy’s shoulder just as the hotpops went off. He closed his eyes as he landed for that second and used his memory to jump forward onto the back of the gargoyle just above the harpy. When the light faded Luca snapped his eyes open and hoped and jumped his way along the flighted monsters while determinedly ignoring the waves of heat and eat rattling metal music that filled the temple from three different sources. Luca had originally thought he’d have to get all the way across the temple but as luck would have it there was a hole in the roof. Maybe for the flying races to get in? Not wanting to waist the opportunity Luca shot his wing out and swung up through the hole and then sprinted across the roof.
Luca didn’t expect to gain much time with the hotpops he just hopped to through them off enough to get out of the building. That sort of space crowded with enemies was not a good fighting condition form them. A quick reference to the map showed that everyone else had managed to get out though Rӓv was still swearing viciously even as she panted from running. Luca wanted to tell her to save her breath, but she stopped on her own so either she had finished or realised she was wasting precious air on the matter.
Luca flipped off the roof and rolled as he hit the ground. Coming to his feet he sprinted for the forest just ahead. He wanted cover that wasn’t enclosed. As he ran Luca swept his eyes over the area looking for any monsters outside the temple while identifying a landmark that could be a good meeting point.
He noticed a towering black spire offset by a setting sun. He started to say head west but then paused. He didn’t have the opportunity to check his compass what if the sun didn’t set in the west here? No it would be better to state the landmark. That meant he’d better message lest anything close to them could overhear. Since Help showed that the coms could be overheard.
[Lucky: Sunset spire.] Luca didn’t have the luxury of a long explanation when he typed while running. So he just went for key words. Once Luca reached the trees he didn’t stay on the ground. Rathe he swung up into the denser branches and moved from tree to tree as he headed deeper. Luca wanted to use the trees to prevent aerial attackers from reaching him. While delaying the ability of land bound attackers to grab him. Since it didn’t hamper his ability to move it was the safest method he had.
“Lucky what are you doing?” Help asked as Luca moved deeper into the woods.
[Lucky: Looking for somewhere to meet the others while avoiding as many pursuers as possible.]
“Oh. Um you should be careful in the trees though.” Luca raised a brow wondering why when Rӓv’s voice came through the coms.
[Rӓv: Was that Help just now? Damn it seems the translation mumbo jumbo only works inside the cube. That is going to be a problem.]
[Tails: That sounded fine to me though?]
[Ghost: Da.]
[Holly: I understood nothing.] Luca muttered to himself. He also understood Help fine what was the difference that some of them could and some of them couldn’t. Luca could probably assume that it was the same reason that he and Ghost had been able to understand the speech in the temple. He just didn’t know what the reason was.
