“Why didn’t you deal with them? or at least go after them.” Shade waited until Luca had spread the tent out and gotten Ghost settled before the question burst out of him. Luca looked up from taking Ghost’s temperature to stare at him.
“You mean I could have slaughtered the mop? I don’t think that quick satisfaction was worth Ghosts life.” Shade’s mouth snapped closed at Luca’s retort. He looked at Ghost and then winced before he nodded.
“Your right. Better to try and save him first.” Shade looked around before he gestured to the small pile of wood that Ghost and Luca had picked up and stored here before. “Should I start a fire?”
Luca nodded and offered a slight smile. “I can console myself that those people who needed to be rescued likely won’t last long out here without a solid plan anyway. That large of a group moving together. They might as well be ringing the dinner bell for most of the things in this place.”
Shade blinked twice and then smiled slowly. “Right, I forget with how competent and for thinking you are that the others may not have it so easy. Surly they won’t struggle too much though?”
“Heh, if they could just handle the issue, they wouldn’t have needed to take the key that Ghost had. They would have thought to co-operate. Revenge is a dish best served from home after all. Otherwise you are likely to burn out on it.” Luca twisted his lips in disgust no one would know that better than them after all. Luca turned back to Ghost and checked his temperature and his pulse. Seemed stable. Help had collapsed on Ghosts chest at some point and Luca quickly picked them up and checked them over. It seemed to be the same state as after the Roach fight in the box. Just exhausted.
Carefully Luca settled them aside before taking the time to warn others. It would be best for them to be on their guard since not only was all the natives around here thinking about eating or beating them apparently even their own people had lost sight of end goals.
[Lucky: Rejoice we no longer need to manage those logistics problems.]
[Rӓv: Whose hurt?] She was always so sharp with things.
[Lucky: Don’t make anything that relies on magic.]
[Rӓv: Useless snake. I just got something finished to help save his friends to.] Luca raised a brow as he re-worked his plans. Something to use to save Declan’s friends that wouldn’t be useful without Declan and thus without magic…
[Lucky: Oh? We might still be able to make it work. At the moment though I think its best you come here. We need someone to watch Ghost when I head out.]
[Rӓv: Roger that I’ll be there before you know it.] Luca left Rӓv to her thing. Ghost’s vitals suddenly plummeted. Making an alert on the coms. Luca lunged forward and started checking him over. In the end Luca could only attribute the issue to a fluid problem. What he wouldn’t give for some saline right now. Since he didn’t have that it would have to be a transfusion. Luca worked quickly setting the transfusion up and once it started in moments Ghost was stable. That was strange in and of itself.
Luca eyed Ghost sceptically. Still it wasn’t like he could be faking his vitals so Luca could only chalk it up to more otherworld weirdness. Shade looked with wide eyes at the needles and tubes between them mouth gaping like a landed fish. Luca had to chuckle it was such an exaggerated response he was unable to take it really seriously. “Medical procedure to stabilise someone after blood loss.” Luca managed to explain in the end. Immediately the small tube had not only Shades but also Lil’ Miss’s and Blues undivided attention it seemed that even Aran was trying to look. Luca could only shake his head before he messaged Tails.
[Lucky: When rescue comes don’t move in the centre of the group. Jealousy is murderous.]
[Tails: Ghost? How serious.] even faster than Rӓv though Luca supposed he noticed the vitals warning. Luca had to wonder if Holly would do the same. It was one of the features they hadn’t had the chance to explain to him after all.
[Lucky: He still has a pulse.]
[Tails: What about Declan and Shade?]
[Lucky: Shades good. Declan I’ll have words with alter.]
[Tails: All the right words I hope.]
[Lucky: Absolutely.] Luca would be sure to drive home his argument to the hilt. He felt it was particularly distasteful for Declan to be one that betrayed because unlike the rest of them he hadn’t come into this situation mostly blind.
[Lucky: Holly be aware that in the last rescue the captives went hostile.]
[Holly: Really? I’ll be extra careful then.] Luca shook his head slightly it made it more challenging to work with him when he seemed to miss key hints. That was not something that would be borne in a normal Tac team let alone at the moment. It made Luca more suspicious about the ulterior motives and how much of what he’d seen of Holly was true and how much was great acting.
Luca stopped the transfusion and drank a large amount of water. When Luca lowered his canteen Lil’ miss snagged it and took it out into the rain. She returned minutes later with the canteen once again full. Luca smiled and stroked her head in thanks. Blue chirped twice before they shot outside. Luca stared after the bird that had vanished in the rain. They would be fine right? Come to think of it, Luca should just ask Help if Blue had a preferred pronoun rather than making do with something ambivalent. Though it somehow seemed rude to ask that.
Luca waited but when Blue didn’t immediately come back, he gave a worried glance to Ghost before he eased to his feet. When he stood the world swam and Luca quickly crouched and then sat back down. Thankfully Shade didn’t see anything as he was also focused on the cave entrance.
“I just had a thought with the others having the airship won’t they be fairly safe?” Shade turned back as Luca leaned against the wall near Ghosts head. Hs vision was not focused but his other senses still worked fine.
“They can’t use it when the Elementals rage and there are plenty of sky predators that will eat the unsuspecting. Besides I’m running low on rations and had packed enough for a couple of months. That lot? They will need to find food soon or others eating them will be the least of their problems.” Luca took the time to explain to Shade since he seemed genuinely interested., Besides if ever there was a good time to betray now was it and Shade showed no signs not even remote interest in anything but being part of the group. It was actually a strange thing Luca felt as comfortable around him as he did with Ghost or Rӓv it was better even than Holly despite the acquaintance being shorter.
“You should get some rest, someone should.” Luca prodded Shade. The map indicated Rӓv was coming closer, but it would still be a while until she arrived. With Ghost’s situation it was destined to be a long night for Luca just as well he’d gotten a good sleep the night before.
