William’s body lay on one table. Dissected but not for an autopsy more like some sort of experimental examination. There was no care given to the storage of the organs, after they had been removed from the body they had been tossed in a bin to the side. Most notable though was that William’s hand that Luca had been suspicious of had been removed and was placed on a separate table beside the body. It was blackened in colour and a rotting smell that far exceeded what should be present given the limited time and the chill of the room exuded from the hand. Absently Luca raised a hand to the side of his neck where he’d been cut during the airport attack. The wound hadn’t been deep letting Luca causally disinfect it before the flight and then forget about it but he felt a slight itch while in the lab room.
“This.” Ghost called Luca’s attention away from the body and over to a pair of examination tables. There were no bodies, but it was clear that something had laid there not long ago. The only question that Luca had was what had laid there. Luca shifted to examine the first table not touching anything just looking at the residue stains.
As Luca leaned closer Ghost reached forward suddenly and tugged back the part of Luca’s shirt that had fallen forward and almost touched the table. “I really don’t know why you wear such loose clothing over your combat suit.”
“Deceptive appearance.” Luca replied absently. The stains on the table had all the normal features of blood except they where a shimmery teal colour. “I’ve never seen anything this colour not even paint.”
“Is it that important?” Ghost wondered.
[Rӓv: Could you two be more cryptic.]
[Lucky: Sorry, was too focused. What has the consistency of blood but is shimmery teal?] Luca winced a little he’d been too surprised by this lab that he’d focused on what Ghost was saying in person and ignored the coms. It might have been easier to explain if the residue had been anywhere other than an examination table. Realistically a body of something or someone was normally what was put on such tables so that trace disturbed Luca. In particular the fact that it seemed to be oxidizing like blood would was a major concern.
[Rӓv: Nothing.]
[Ghost: We looking at it so clearly not nothing.] Luca grabbed Ghost’s hand when he reached out to touch the table. Luca shook his head and pulled the hand back he wasn’t sure why, but he felt that it would be bad to touch the trace.
Not getting anything further from the first able Luca moved to the second table. Unfortunately the fluid on this table created even more questions it was exactly the colour and smell of blood however it wasn’t oxidizing at all it instead seemed to have a consistency similar to oil. Just great I needed more questions about things right now.
[Rӓv: Hide.] Luca jerked his head back and on instinct leapt onto a nearby chair. He then jumped up and rolled sideways to land flat on the top of two large cupboards along the wall of the room. Hopefully nobody looks up too hard.
Luca looked at the group of red markers that swarmed outside the door and wondered how they hadn’t noticed their approach. A quick glance showed that Ghosts marker put him at the line of benches along the wall by the door. But Luca could see no trace of him. Some skills where just downright enviable.
[Rӓv: They came out of the room down one and across the hall, the monitors couldn’t pick them up before it was too late.]
Luca nodded to himself, figures. He hadn’t found people in most of the rooms he’d passed but he’d still encountered some people so should have figured there would be more in rooms around the place.
“I really don’t understand how those things work.” The light voice preceded three scientists and two guards into the room. The scientists recognisable by their white coats, clipboards, and casual disregard for the body in the room. The guards identifiable from the set of their shoulders and the guns on their belts.
“Their bodies natural enters a stasis state when lacking optimal function conditions which is really impressive if that can be replicated it will be a miracle for medicine.”
“The issue is that Subject B’s blood contaminates anyone it touches. As soon as they touch it, they go out of there way to free it.”
“Irrational this sort of monster is best used for research how could it be let out in the world.”
“I think Subject A is more concerning all it takes from it is a look and the people are lost.”
“Thankfully just impeding eye contact is sufficient to deal with that.”
“It’s irrelevant I doubt they will live much longer anyway. There vitals have been weakening given the prolonged starvation.”
“The main point is this body; it is clearly contaminated, but the source is not the same as subject A or B.”
Luca felt his eye twitch as he listened to the discussion between the three scientists. None of it sounded good. He had no idea who or what subject A and subject B were, but he doubted they were monstress enough to deserve the experimentation the scientists spoke about. When they reached a discussion of live dissection Luca almost failed to restrain himself. The only reason he remained still was that the monitors indicated more people waited in the corridor outside as the group of five finished poking at William’s corpse and then left again.
[Lucky: Rӓv send a butterfly after them I hope I’m wrong but that sounded too close to human experimentation for my taste.]
[Rӓv: Alright.]
[Tails: What are we going to do if there are?] Luca glanced at his watch, 4:20am. The sky would be lightening soon. He had two options, they could try and make a quick rescue now or do it on the re-entry.
[Rӓv: Oh god, they look barely alive I don’t even…] Luca winced at the horror in Rӓv’s tone. That did not sound like a circumstance they can carefully plan their way around.
[Lucky: They won’t survive long enough for us to free them on the second run, will they?]
[Rӓv: No.]
[Lucky: Improvising it is. How is your access to security in this building Rӓv?]
[Rӓv: Not bad, I can divert and unlock stuff…] Rӓv trailed off at the end of the sentence unsure why Luca was asking.
[Lucky: How many alarms, fail safes and alerts can you set off at once?]
[Tails: I don’t think I like how that question sounds.]
[Rӓv: A lot… Why?]
[Lucky: If we can’t be subtle then best to take advantage of chaos. Shut the cameras down everywhere and then set off every alarm you can as randomly all over the compound as you can manage. We’ll just have to find a way to hide our faces –] Luca cut himself off as Ghost appeared below him and held up two white Faceless Masks. Luca smirked and rolled off the cupboards. Opening them he pulled out two white coats and conveniently two sets of scrubs.
Pulling them over the top of there other clothes made them seem quite bulky particularly for Luca but it did quite successfully disguise their figures. A quick search in the next cupboard produced a set of booties and latex gloves for each of them. Putting the masks on Luca looked at Ghost and nodded once. After looking over the map and confirming the best way to get to the monitor butterfly Luca spoke.
[Lucky: Now.]
