2.26 Rescue Operation

“Alright then everyone know their rolls?” Luca checked one more time as he looked around the group. After he received certain nods even if there were still a few dubious glances Luca rolled out from the cover and started moving. He was going to make sure that everyone was much too busy to worry about the slaves. Luca approached an outside tent of the camp. The structure seemed quite sturdy. Given that it was square Luca decided it was worth checking. Experimentally he jumped up and grabbed the edge of the tent. It felt the same a grabbing onto a building Luca found no particular give in the structure at all. Luca considered the issue of the tent collapsing underneath him versus the issue of trying to sneak across the wide passages between the tents on foot. With a bit of effort Luca pulled himself onto the roof. Once on the edge of the roof Luca could see the indentations of the structures supports through the leather. [Lucky: Tents can be crossed if you want to lesson your chance of being spotted moving through the camp.] [Tails: while that’s nice, how do you expect the rest of us to get from one tent to the next? We can’t fly like some people.] Luca looked at the distance between the tents it didn’t seem that bad really? [Räv: it would be all sorts of the wrong chaos if we tried to replicate you. You just do things your way and we’ll do things our way.] Luca shrugged he didn’t think that the distance was outside their abilities. It wasn’t a distance they hadn’t cross before. He figured they were just not comfortable on the less than stable leather surface. He admitted that it made things a bit more interesting. [Ghost: Is a good day for mayhem.] Luca smiled slightly as he looked at Ghost’s message. Probably just as well Declan could no longer see that he seemed the thought not to handle that sort of levity well. Though if Ghost was making those sort of jokes Luca guessed that meant he’d made it to the stables with Help. “Haha, the vamps say that we’ll get prime pick when they go in. We just need to do them a bit to make the key they have nice and complied. I think the record of this hunt and the show the harpies plan to put on when they take them all back to the aviary should do it.” Cruel laughter followed the voice. Luca looked down from his Perth on the top of one of the tents to see two centaurs and a harpy as they walked towards the fourth side of the camp where the ‘game’ was to be held. It also told him that either Derek or Zeno had been captured given that Lady was here Luca assumed it was Zeno, but it was possible they’d just been separated and been unable to meet up before being captured. Luca smiled, as a tune popped into his head. Smoke don’t rise, fuel don’t burn, sun don’t shine no more. Luca carefully moved across to the next tent. He supposed they were actually leather shacks since they were able to support his weight with ease. Luca hoped that Shade’s rescue was as humiliating for the Centaurs and the Harpies as possible. Though he did get one interesting piece of information from that sneer. [Lucky: It seems they are planning to shift our people to the Harpies home anyway.] [Tails: That’s interesting, gives me ideas.] [Lucky: All the ideas. Ask Lady, see how she feels about it. Takes the natives though I doubt they are going to be moved.] [Tails: Got it, Holly how’s it going?] [Holly: Found someone, he’s making his way away from the big gathering, he should be complete alone before too long. [Lucky: Alright then, at the chaos get moving.] Luca reached a tent just back from the jeering crowd. He had to take the relief that the group clearly wasn’t used to people stalking their camp because no one person had checked the roofs since Luca had entered the camp. Not even the harpies had thought to look up. He listened intently and once he was sure that the tent was empty, he swung over and inside. A quick scan of the interior showed that it really didn’t have much for human comfort, nowhere to sleep and all the tables were abnormally high. Luca stretched and then shifted his hold on Helps customer construction. A shovel made of hardened earth if was very short, but Luca wasn’t digging a trap, just a pit for some people with poor taste in sports. Luca dug quickly into the hardened earth. A frantic cheer sounded from outside and Luca flicked a look at the tent flap. He hoped that the earthworms were nice and sensitive. Two shallow holes and he felt a slight vibration in the earth. It might be nothing, but Luca decided he’d go start somewhere else as opposed to waiting on ground zero to be certain. Luca slipped out of the tent and then quickly flipped onto the roof of the tent across from it. “Huh?” A slight exclamation from bellow caused Luca to freeze, he glanced down to see a centaur looking around bellow with a confused expression. “What is it?” A female turned away from the crowd to ask the one looking around. “I thought I saw something move.” A sharp whistle came from the front of the crowd followed by a rising chant. As Luca watched Nano’s collar was removed and he was given a shove in the back towards the rapidly darkening plains. “Run.” “Run.” “Run little prey.” “Flee.” “Flee.” “Flee till the dawn.” “If you escape your freedom is won.” To Luca the chant was rather informative. It would be useless to Nano though since he wouldn’t understand a word they were saying. It was why when it was decided that Shade would be the one interfering with the hunt Luca had given him a note that he’d written and had all other others add something to verify his identity. Shade had been bemused and having to verify his rescue intentions but had taken the note along as he’d vanished into the fields. Nano started to jog into the field. It was a controlled speed, and it was the same approach that Luca would have taken. Even with the jeering and noise behind he needed to manage his energy. Even at a flat sprint he wouldn’t be able to outrun a horse thus he couldn’t outrun a Centaur. In which case there was no value in a mad sprint. It would be better to see how much of a lead they would give him and try to outwit or out turn their pursuit after all turning circles where a thing for mounted units. A rumble sounded from beneath the ground and the tent Luca was on shook. Luca’s eyes widened and he moved quickly away from the area. [Lucky: How we going guys?] Luca messaged the question as he was moving away. He was primarily concerned about Ghost since he was next closest to Luca’s area. [Ghost: Help say they going to hide at our shelter and then come to ship tomorrow to help deal with harpies. I sense deep grudge.] Luca kinda wanted to ask how the unicorns were going to get to the ship but decided that he was better to save that curiosity for latter. [Holly: Some i***t never learnt that you bleed out faster if you thrash all over the place. Talk about a mess.] Luca tried to decide the logic behind blaming a victim of an attacker for making a mess.
