One month later…
I woke up and dashed to the bathroom. Barely making it in time to throw up in the toilet. I puked until I could not puke any more. I have never felt this sick in my life. I get up and rinse my mouth out and brush my teeth. Hoping that I will not have to throw up anymore. I lay back in bed and texted Tiffany that I was sick and if she could come over and bring some ginger ale to help my stomach. She is at my house in about thirty minutes with the ginger ale. I pour some into a cup and take a sip. Hopefully, this will do the trick.
We start talking about what we want to do later this week and she brings up going to the lake and hang out with our other classmates to start the summer off. I know Zane will be there, so I am not sure. Tiff says, “You cannot let him rule your life. So, what if he was there? Show him that he holds no power over you! Come on, let’s go to the lake.”
“Okay, we will go, but on one condition. If he does something to me, then I will leave.” I said.
She agrees and then we start talking about what we will be wearing. She says that she is going to wear a white swimsuit and that I should wear a white one too, because she thinks it will be cute and that we could match. I was about to agree with her when I remembered that I do not like wearing bright colored swimsuits as I am about to get my period. My PERIOD!!!!! I jump up and grab my phone and look at my calendar. I am a few weeks late. I guess I was so depressed that I forgot that I was supposed to get my period two weeks ago. Oh no! I could be pregnant!
“Tiff, we have to go to the drug store, right now!!!” I say as I grab my purse and make sure I have everything I need to go.
Tiff keeps asking me if everything is alright and I just don’t answer. I tell her I will after I find out something. We make our way to the drug store and I go to the aisle that has the pregnancy tests. I look over them thinking about which one I should get. Tiff comes up behind me and says, “You don’t think… No, it can’t be. He didn’t wear protection?”
I tell her, “I don’t know. I was drunk and I knew he was drunk. It didn’t even come up. There were no words exchanged. I was just so excited about how, at the time, I thought he was showing me that he liked me too. I don’t think he used a condom.”
I grab a couple of different tests and go quickly back home. I open every single one and pee on them. I set them on the bathroom counter and go back into my room. I waited anxiously on my bed. It feels like it is taking forever, but soon the two minutes are up. I go into the bathroom and pick up a test. I fell to the floor and started crying. Tiff comes into the bathroom and I hold up the positive test. She rushes over and hugs me. “What am I going to do?”, I cry.
“Well, you have to tell Zane. You can tell him when we are at the lake.” She says.
I agree with her and we make a game plan. Our plan is to get him alone and tell him then. We started getting ready and then headed off to the lake. We get there and, just like Tiffany said, the whole school is practically there. I spot Zane off with the rest of the jocks sitting in some chairs by the water. We find a spot to tan a little bit while we wait for the best time to get Zane alone. We waited a few hours and I did not think there would be a better time. He is never alone. I told Tiff I would be back in a bit. I walked over to where Zane and his buddies were. I asked, “Hey Zane, can I talk to you for a minute?”
He rolls his eyes but follows me to some nearby trees so that we can talk privately. I did not say anything at first because I was trying to decide on how to tell him. I guess I took too long, and he is the one to break the ice. “What do you want, Jenny? I have better things to do.”
“Um... I just wanted to tell you something. I am not sure how to say this. But… I am…” but before I could finish my sentence, Whitney came out from behind Zane and wrapped her arms around him and asked “Hey baby. What are you doing here with her?”
“Nothing important” he says and starts to walk off, but I grab his arm and tell him, “I really need to talk to you.”
He ignores me and walks off with Whitney. I went back over to Tiffany and started crying. I tell her, “Tiff, we have got to leave. He wouldn’t listen to me. He wouldn’t even let me say anything. Whitney came by and ruined everything. Let’s just go back home. Please!”
She agrees and we gather our things and go back to my house. We finish the night off by ordering pizza and watching romantic comedies. I try to call Zane again, but he doesn’t answer. I texted him saying that I wanted to meet up and talk. That it was important. Over the next few days, I waited for his reply. He never answered my calls or texts. I guess I am on my own.
