After a while, I stopped trying to call Zane. I figured he did not care what I had to say to him. I even tried going to his house, but he never answered the door. I heard that he went off to college. The rest of my summer was filled with taking online classes for school so I could graduate earlier. Otherwise, I would not be able to finish school. My bump has grown a lot and I found out I am having a boy. I eventually told my parents, but I couldn’t even tell them in person. I had to call my mom and tell her. My parents were disappointed. They told me that I could live in their house till I could get my own place. I am not expecting much help from them. They were always gone to work anyway.
I got a job to start saving money to get my own place. Tiffany said she wants to move in together so she can help me with the baby. I do not know whether that is a good idea or not. I do not want her to feel like I am holding her back. But she assures me that she is my best friend and she would do anything for me. I am grateful to her.
6 months later….
I have had the baby and I named him Michael. He is perfect in every way. He looks a lot like Zane. He has his hair and eyes. He is practically Zane’s clone. Tiffany and I moved in together right before I gave birth. We now live in a two-bedroom apartment. Its not the nicest place, but its cozy. I got a better job and, between Tiffany and I, I don’t have to pay for childcare. Tiffany works as a hairdresser. She says I should start dating, but I am not ready. Zane hurt me so badly.
4 years later…
I woke up to my son, Michael, jumping on me. I grabbed him and started tickling him. He giggles. Once our tickle fight is over, I get up and get Michael ready for the day. I then get dressed. Today, I am dressed in a nice pantsuit. I start a new job today. I will be a secretary for the CEO of Drew Industries. I put makeup on and curl my hair. Once I am satisfied with how I look, I go to the kitchen to make breakfast. Tiffany had made Michael a bowl of cereal and was almost done eating. I looked at the clock and realized I was running a little late. Tiffany offered to take Michael to his preschool this morning, so I gave him a hug and a kiss. I told him I loved him.
I race out the door and jump into my car. I race off to work, which is about a twenty-minute drive. I park and make my way inside. I went to the security desk and told them that I started a new job today and that I needed to know where to go. I was told to go to the very top level of the building. I get in the elevator and go to the top level of the building. I go to reception and tell them that I am a new secretary that is starting today. A woman came by to show me around. We walk all over as I will have to run errands around this floor for my new boss. We made our way to my new boss’s office. She knocks on the door and waits till a manly deep voice says come in. She opens the door and then, the next thing, I am staring into familiar eyes. I am staring at the boy who is now a man and the person who I thought was my best friend. The one who hurt me so badly that it has been years and I still have not dated anyone. I am staring at the face of Zane Andrews.
