Janet

ALPHA DARREN I’m sitting in the Alpha’s office, running through everything that needs to be done for today. Poor Bella is understandably devastated after the news she received this morning, and as always, she can only find solace with her mate, Michael, by her side. We can all rely on him; he’s incredible. As Beta and mate, Michael has only known Bella for a few months, yet he treats her like a queen. I haven’t found my mate yet, and honestly, I can’t wait. It’s been two years since I turned eighteen, and I still haven’t found her, but I’m not giving up hope—not yet. After all, Michael is twenty-one and only recently met his mate. I can’t believe that in the entire pack, only two known survivors emerged from the Claws Pack: Bella’s eighteen-year-old sister, Amelia, and her seventeen-year-old younger sister. Bella said Amelia is one hell of a fighter, but the fact that she managed to get both herself and her younger sister out of there is astounding. I have to admit, Bella’s sister is a brave girl. Not only did she escape the pack lands, but she has also been on her own for over twenty-four hours, keeping them both safe. That reminds me—I need to ensure the bedrooms are ready for their arrival. Michael has already requested that I arrange two bedrooms on his floor for them, so I quickly mind-link Noah, and he’s more than happy to help get everything ready. I click through the list on my laptop, and the first three tasks include the ceremony for Michael and Bella next week. Damn. I’ll leave that for Michael to sort out; I’m not sure what’s going to happen with it now. Moving on to the next item on my list. Morning training comes next. James, Michael, and I train these groups among others, and luckily for me, it looks like I’ll be treating all three classes today. I leave a phone message for the Elders, informing them of the attack and asking them to call me once they have any information. We need full details. Heading for the kitchen to grab breakfast, I find I’m starving. Don’t get me wrong, I’m always hungry; I’m literally a bottomless pit. But hey, I’m the Alpha, and this morning I’m going to need the energy to get through all three classes. I pile four plates with pancakes, bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast, then grab two bowls of fruit and a large jug of coffee. I set two trays, cover them, and place them in the oven to keep them warm before heading to my usual table, where Noah is just about to start eating. I’ll eat my food and then take a tray up to Beta Michael and Bella to make sure they eat something. “Hey, Noah, how’s it going?” I ask as I take my seat. “Hey, sweetie pie! I’m good, and you? Everything okay?” he replies with a grin. “Yeah, I’m okay, just busy; can’t complain. I know it’s early, but have you made any progress with the bedrooms yet?” I ask while diving into my food. “Yes, I have. Amelia's room just needs a general clean, though I think I'll have new bedding, pillows, and throws picked up for her. I’ve got a couple of she-wolves upstairs now clearing out the space between Amelia’s and Bella’s room for Annabelle,” he told me. “Great, thank you, Noah. This is why I asked you to sort the rooms; I knew you would get it done quickly. You have a talent for creating a homely feel, which is exactly what we want for them,” I said, smiling warmly at him. “What can I say? I’m just fabulous, baby,” he replied, rolling his eyes theatrically while giving me his best dramatic queen look. I couldn’t help but laugh. Damn, I love this boy. “Yeah, yeah.” I shot him a wink, and he blew me a kiss. This is how it always is between Noah and me—we’re forever joking. I don’t care about someone's sexuality or race; if you treat me right, I’ll treat you right. It’s that simple. Almost six hours later, all the training sessions were over, and I was heading back to my floor on the Alpha level. As the Alpha, I had the whole floor to myself, just like my Beta and Gamma. My parents still lived on the Alpha floor with me, but once I found my mate, they would move to a house on the pack lands for our privacy. They had offered to move out since I took over the Alpha position from my dad, but honestly, I didn’t see the point. I was happy having them here. It’s not like I was bringing any she-wolves home. No, I’m not a virgin, but I haven’t been with many women—very few, in fact. I refuse to sleep with anyone from my pack. I’ve seen the trouble that can cause, and I don’t want that for my mate. I jumped into the shower, letting the hot water wash over me and soothe my aching muscles. Three back-to-back training sessions were enough to make anyone sore. After a quick shower, I dried off and walked into my bedroom wrapped only in a towel, only to be greeted with the worst sight imaginable. “Janet, what the hell are you doing here?” I exclaimed, staring at her sprawled out on my bed, completely naked. This wasn’t the first time she had tried this, but today was not the day for her games. “I heard you were having a bad day, and I saw you coming to your floor, so I thought I could help you relax,” she purred, her voice enough to make my instincts kick in. “Janet, we’ve been over this too many times.” I pride myself on respecting women, but honestly, this girl was really testing my patience. This had been going on since she turned eighteen three months ago, and it needed to stop. She was the daughter of one of our top warriors, Johnson, and a massive pain in my ass. “Let me take over and make sure she regrets coming back here,” Karen, my wolf, chimed in, firmly on the same page as me. “Not now, Karen,” I huffed at her, retreating back into my subconscious. “Darren, are you even listening to me?” Her voice grated on my nerves, reminiscent of nails scratching against a chalkboard. “Janet, please leave me alone and don’t ever come to my room again,” I said, irritation rising with each word. “Come on, love, we both know you want this. Surely no one would know about it.” Damn this woman. “I would know, and that's enough. But that's besides the point; I’ve told you it’s not going to happen. I’m sorry, but this is just how it is. I’m trying to be respectful toward you, Janet, but you are really testing my patience. Now I have work to do, so please leave.” She pouted her lips, and I rolled my eyes at her theatrics. Finally, she wrapped her dressing gown around herself and left my damn room. I didn’t have time for her nonsense today.
