Cara The house was quiet. For the first time in what felt like forever, there were no screams, no growls, no shattering of wood or bone. Just the low hum of silence broken by the faint crackle of a fire in the hearth. Warmth bathed the room in soft gold, and for a moment, it felt like peace. I curled deeper into the couch, pulling the blanket tighter around my shoulders. Every muscle ached like I’d been torn apart and stitched back together wrong, but it didn’t matter. The war was over. The demon was gone. Jace’s uncle—our Alpha—was nothing but ash. We’d survived. I should’ve felt triumphant. I should’ve been proud. Instead, I felt… small. Small and hollow and so damn tired. Maybe because for the first time since I could remember, there was nothing left to fight. No chains to break. N
