Episode 2: The Wicked Queen
Dawn crawled over the spires of Blackthorn Castle, staining the sky the color of old blood. Queen Morwenna stood before the mirror of obsidian, her reflection slow to follow her movements. The spell was working—but not without cost.
In the village below, whispers had already begun. Crops rotted overnight. Cows refused to give milk. Fear, Morwenna knew, was a fertile thing.
Her raven, Karsis, returned with news tucked beneath his wing: the princess still lived. Hidden in the marshlands. Protected.
Morwenna’s fingers tightened around her goblet. So the girl had allies.
At court, the lords argued over failing trade routes and angry peasants. Morwenna listened in silence, then raised one gloved hand. The room froze. With a single command, she announced a grand festival—music, wine, and mercy for unpaid taxes. Relief swept the hall. None of them noticed the magic threading her words.
That night, Morwenna descended into the lower tower, where the old magic breathed. She knelt before the Circle of Thorns and whispered the princess’s name. The shadows stirred, eager.
“Run while you can,” the Queen murmured, smiling at the dark. “Every path leads back to me.”
Above, thunder rolled. The hunt had begun.
