Amanda kept sneaking glances at Ajax because of the way he stormed out of her great, great grandmother's house. And yes, she couldn't stop going over the interaction, word for word. She had more family. She had lineage, she wasn't a complete freak. She maybe had someone out there that would love her for her. She felt a tinge of disappointment before looking over at Ajax again. She wasn't sure why she felt that way because he is a player, he is a demon, he literally sleeps with any woman that gives him the time of day, he has gorgeous blue eyes and a really cute smile... HEY! hey! No! He is not cute or dreamy. She scolded herself mentally. She was a bit worried because he hasn't been this silent or serious before. He seemed lost in his thoughts but she could only tell that from his carefully neutral expression and the fact that she has begun playing classical music which she highly doubts he is a fan of. She frowned before switching the music completely off and looking out her passenger side window. She had asked her grandmother if she could visit her soon to talk about her abilities and to train because Ajax wasn't wrong when he pointed out that she has abilities that she didn't know of and that could be dangerous. She was dreaming of heaven and hell because of her 'mate'. She tried to wrap her head around it but suddenly her mind got caught on a different thought. Her mother said that the reason they took away her memories and abilities was because they were scared they were going to lose her because she had developed a special ability early but if she understood correctly, this means she doesn't have a special ability. She just has a really tortured mate. She began wondering about her parents and her sister... what were their special abilities? Did it have something to do with genes? Did that determine your special abilities? She hadn't realized she had begun asking these questions aloud until Ajax answered her, "It doesn't have anything to do with genes. It depends on your personality. You as a person. As for your family, I have no idea what their abilities are but I can ask around if you prefer not to talk to them." He replied in a voice devoid of its usual smile or flirtations. She began to really worry, "I would appreciate that." She hesitated before thinking to bread the tension, "Does this mean I get the main room? You know since your ex-lovers ruined my house, I think it's only fair that I stay with someone who won't freak out if I start glowing or something." She shrugs nonchalantly while looking at him out of the corner of her eye. His lips tilted slightly and she knew she left the perfect opening, "Listen love, if you wanted another round with mini me all you had to do was ask. No hinting needed." She faked indignation but couldn’t help her full out smile. She was relieved to have brought him out of his dark place even if it was just for now. She had become used to him and she found that she missed his joking and flirtation when it was gone. She supposed she shouldn't feel that way with a fated mate and all. It was midday by the time they arrived at his home and she realized it was Sunday. She had to go back to school tomorrow, she supposed she could take her leave because it has been piling up and honestly, she deserves a break. She was resolved and nodded to herself. She felt her body begin to move towards the main bedroom of it's own volition and she face planted the bed before rolling over and wrapping herself in the blanket. Should she feel this comfortable in a demon's home? Probably not but with how tired she couldn't care less, besides he has saved her more times than she cared to count and he is one of the only two that has been honest with her. He began to chuckle while staring down at her, "Oh no please, make yourself at home." "Considering you destroyed mine, I will!" She said while defiantly snuggling deeper if that were possible. His eyes roved over her body covered by blankets and she swore his eyes lit with lust. She could feel herself responding but before she could say anything he blurted out, "I have a few errands to run. You know business stuff. Don't open the door to strangers and if anyone pops by unexpectedly just call my name." She rolled her eyes at him, "I'm not five, so stop treating me like a child. If your father pops by I will definitely scream your name but I have a feeling he'll recognize me or something. He was the star of a few of my dreams over the years." Ajax paled at that and nodded. "By the way, it's cool that you can just pop to wherever you want. Can I do that? Or is it a demon thing?" She called out after him as he was walking away. She waited for his reply but none came. She sighed and settled back in the bed. Sleep came quickly.
Ajax felt his weary body opposing this scouting mission. He knew that the all clear for Ralph had not been given but he'd rather be two steps ahead of his hideous brother. He researched Ralph and found out he lived in an apartment building with his wife and kid. He was an alcoholic with a bunch of misdemeanors but nothing concrete. His wife always refused to testify. He was walking down the street while trying to ignore everything the old witch had told him. He wandered into an alleyway and looked around for prying eyes. He saw no one so he jumped to the roof of the building just opposite of the apartment block. With his supernatural eyesight he had a good view into the window of the apartment in question. He crouched down, so as not to be conspicuous and once again began to think about what the witch said. He knew his father was keeping something from him and it was something about his mother. There were rumors in the underworld, things that his father would lose his temper over but were discreet enough not to reach his ears. But his mother's death looked like a suicide but he knew how easy those were to stage. Why would he kill her though? He had no reason to. He hated Ajax from when he was a boy and tortured him because he was weak and pathetic like a human. He had emotions. He shook his head to dislodge his train of thought and observed the drunken man passed out in his only living room chair. What about his wife and child? He watched the man sleeping and shook his head in disgust. This human was covered in his own filth and he would begin drunken brawls just because they would disagree with his opinion. He began to feel the unearthly anger that surged through his blood ever since he was a child, the anger that could terrify his own father. He pushed it back down lest he begin throwing a demon temper tantrum. He began thinking of Amanda and the dreams she had told him about... it couldn't have been of him but that passing remark of dreaming of his father and the knowing looks of the witch. He refused to believe that he could be her mate, besides he was half demon not half angel. He felt a shudder and a sudden dawning, the witch followed the statement by saying there are secrets his father is keeping from him... could it be? No, he refused. Why would a half angel sleep with a full demon? A half angel could kill a full-blooded demon with ease and that's why they are sworn enemies. He is evil. He is his father's son. He repeated this mantra until he began to believe himself. He watched the sun begin to set and thought he might as well stop by Amanda's place to pick up a few of her things. He thought of her snuggling into his bed and felt an involuntary smile tug at his lips. He materialized in her place and grabbed what she might need, including her handbag. Just as he was about to materialize at home he heard Amanda's panicked voice as she called his name.
Amanda has awoken to the sensation of being watched, she saw that it was almost dark so she thought Ajax had returned from his 'errands'. She was about to call him out on being a perv but as soon as she sat up she knew, she doesn't know how but it wasn't him. She carefully got out of the bed, trying to keep her back to the wall so she wouldn't get ambushed. She moved out into the open plane living space of the kitchen, living room and bar. She immediately spotted the drop dead gorgeous brunette in a tight red dress draped over the arm of the couch. "Hmm... Ajax doesn't usually let his toys stay the night, let alone the day." She stated in a sultry voice that sounded seductive and threatening all at once. Her gaze roved over what Amanda was wearing and her lips pulled into a knowing smile, "I was wondering what happened to those jeans. I guess Ajax couldn't bare to part from them". She said with a pout. Amanda wanted to slap that point off her face. She felt a surge of jealously but quickly tamped it down and replied in a sickly, sweet voice, "This was the only decent thing to wear in his collection of women's clothing. It covered the most skin." She seemed appalled at the idea as if Amanda had called her a slut. This amused Amanda immensely. What kind of woman enjoyed that kind of thing? "My name is Miranda but I am sure you will find out soon exactly who I am." She said with a knowing smirk that made Amanda uneasy. Amanda looked around to see if this woman had brought anyone with her but couldn't help but notice how Miranda fit. She fit with Ajax and with this house, with this lifestyle. Amanda felt like an outsider for the first time since she entered Ajax's life. She felt herself deflate at that thought. Miranda looked at her curiously, "Why are you still here?" Okay, well that was a bit rude. "Because Ajax wants me here." That wasn't entirely true but she didn't know that. "That's funny because Ajax isn't here, so it kind of looks like you're squatting. That's not a good look on you." She replied as if she knew what would look good on me. Amanda felt infuriated, how dare she come here and accuse me of being here uninvited. "Kind of looks like I'm the one that was invited and you the one imposing." She replied nonchalantly. This infuriated Miranda causing her to rise from her relaxed pose of the couch. "Ajax only has room for one b***h in his life and that spot is already taken." She said in the sweetest tone that if Amanda hadn't taken in her threatening stance she would've thought she was complimenting her. Miranda began to walk threateningly towards Amanda, Amanda began to retreat holding her hands in front of her. Just as she was about to strike Amanda screamed Ajax as a bright light exploded from her hands knocking Miranda across the room and through the patio doors. She lie unconscious on the floor in broken glass just as Ajax materialized in front of her and pulled her behind him searching the room for a threat. His gaze landed on Miranda and he bit out a curse before pausing and looking at Amanda. "What did you do?"
