That's what brothers are for

Ajax felt a surge of panic at hearing Amanda's frightened cry but when he materialized and took in the scene he felt a tinge of amusement, followed by pride. Amanda kicked Miranda's ass and she was one of the top agents 'employed' by Lilith. He felt sudden confusion. He turned to Amanda "What did you do?" He asked genuinely curious how an inexperienced supernatural being could take down someone ten times her age. She was slightly pale with a look of shock still etched into her beautiful features. He could admit to himself that she was beautiful. Miranda was beautiful too and he's just a half demon that can recognize beauty. Nothing special there. He bit down on his tongue to snap himself out of it. "I...I... She... Well, she just came at me and I just 'wooshed' her." He felt laughter bubble up and spill out. He couldn't contain himself and began to hysterically laugh. At first she was shocked but eventually her features morphed into anger. "What's so funny?" She yelled. He moved over to Miranda's body and tried to lift her from the rubble while still letting out small chuckles. "You 'wooshed' her? What is that? A wave?" He asked while laughing. She crossed her arms taking on a defensive pose. "Yes! I don't know how to describe a flash of light coming out of my hands and hitting a woman straight into glass. Is she dead?" She asked the last part in a small whisper and let her arms fall to her side. Her face had taken on a ghostly pallor once again. He became somber and shook his head, "Nope, but she'll be pissed." She let out a relieved breath just as her stomach began to rumble. He couldn't help himself. He began to smile at that, "Hungry?" She folded her hands over her stomach before looking at him and taking on a defensive stance once again. "Well I was trying to eat when this guy I hooked up with brought his exes into my house and decided to burn it down." He felt his face fall and it was his turn to roll his eyes. "One time... It only has to happen one time and they'll never let you forget it." He lifted Miranda into his arms and walked into the house before halting and looking over his shoulder at Amanda. She stood there in those skin tight clothes and he couldn't help but remember what lies beneath. He smiled one of his signature smiles at her and nodded towards the fridge, "The number for the place where I like to order my pizza is on the fridge. I'll let you order and they'll deliver without you needing to pay. I have an arrangement with them." She began walking towards the fridge before halting, "It's like 7 in the morning. Maybe we should have breakfast?" She asked. "Yeah sure but I thought women liked comfort food. My bad." He shrugged before he left to take Miranda to her apartment in the city, "I grabbed some of your clothes and put them in the bedroom before you called." With that said he materialized in Miranda's apartment before she could reply. He dumped her unceremoniously onto the bed and began to walk take in the apartment. It was an open plan apartment with the front door opening into a modern living room decorated in greys and black. It reminded him of his apartment. The kitchen was on the left and the bedroom was on a raised platform on the right. He remembered how Miranda used to make breakfast while waiting for him to wake up. She had a perfect view of the bed from the state of the art kitchen. He thought back to Amanda's kitchen, it was far from state of the art but it held a certain charm, that reflected her personality. It had bright, warm colours and mismatched utensils. He thought that is what home would feel like. He shook his head and walked over to the floor to ceiling windows that looked out on the awakening city. People were beginning to mill about, rushing to complete things before work arrived the next day. He turned at the sound of Miranda waking, "About time." He muttered. She raised a hand to the back of her head and winced before returning to inspect her hand. Her eyes narrowed at the sight of her black blood. She was propped up on her elbows laying while her legs had managed to position themselves in the optimal position. He surveyed her appearance and remembered the fun they had had together. While looking at him she seemed to realize where his mind had wandered and arched her back to make her breasts strain against the tightness of her red dress and her hair fall in waves around her shoulders. He look into her chocolate gaze and realized once again how much she had been using him while they had been together. Strangely he didn't feel the anger he once did at her manipulation. He felt relieved? Had she been genuine, he wouldn't have met Amanada. "Why were you at my home?" He asked curiously. She seemed to lose her seductive pose in an instant before standing, "I recall a time when I didn't need a reason." Her tone petulant but not fooling anybody. "Why is the girl still there is a better question." He was careful to keep his expression blank, "Because I will it." She began to smirk, "What reason could you have to have a mortal with you? Sharing your bed?" He began to feel concerned. Miranda was taking an unusual interest in Amanda and no one knew she was supernatural yet. She is a potential threat the all species if she were to pick a side. "You like your playthings and I like mine" He shrugged but held in his wince as he called Amanda a plaything. Miranda sauntered over to him before running a long, red tipped nail down his chest. "You have a little secret." She said in a singsong voice and continued down with her nail to hook into the waist of his pants. He held tight to his icy demeanor before grabbing her wrist and jerking it away from him and abrutply dropping her hand. He turned and strode to the kitchen intending to pour himself some whiskey. He found a glass and poured himself a finger before turning to face the woman he thought he could love. "I have many secrets Miranda, you're just jealous you aren't one of them. You always knew we were casual." He shrugged feigning disinterest. She began laughing mockingly, "You can say we were casual but you know we were more. You are just like me. We don't need love to rule the eighth circle of hell. We are powerful together." She began her usual rant and he downed the whiskey, "This has been fun as always. Don't show up at my home again. You are no longer welcome." He said the last bit as if talking about the weather. She fumed intending to follow him but he had had enough, he allowed the rage he was feeling to show through his icy exterior. "Do not come to my home again Miranda. You will not like the consequences." He said each word in a growl while he felt his eyes glowing their icy blue. She took a step back finally showing the fear he usually liked to instill in his prey. He smiled manically before disappearing. Amanda felt annoyed at Ajax because of the women comfort food remark. She knew damn well that he would probably have ordered pizza regardless if she were there or not. She called the number and ordered his usual interested to see what he enjoyed. She then walked to the bedroom to find her own clothing. Her irritation cooled as she noticed the huge overnight bag spilling with her clothing on the bed. She rushed to the bag and pulled out a comfy pair of her blue jeans and a light blue shirt. It was one of her favorites but she would usually only wear the frilly item when going out on a summer night. She blushed as she saw the lacy underwear she usually kept at the back of her draw for special occasions. She looked for a more comfortable set but realized he had only packed all the barely there sets. She blushed and felt irritated at her blush. She took the items to the bathroom and decided to shower and change. Once she had finished she left her wet hair around her shoulders and looked to see if he had brought her handbag as well. She found it with her phone still inside and looked to see multiple messages and missed calls from many different people. She cursed and began with a quick call to work to say she wouldn't make it in for the next few days because of a personal emergency. They were completely supportive as she has always been a reliable teacher. She began to scroll through the multiple messages and numbers she received missed calls from. She completely ignored her parents and her sister, not willing to stomach dealing with them. She saw a message from an unknown number but soon realizing it was her great, great grandmother reaching out and wanting to arrange time together she couldn't help but smile. She replied steadily saying she was looking forward to spending more time with her. She then noticed a message from Molly and began to curse again. She quickly called her, "Hey Molly, I'm so sorry about my abruptness the other day." She quickly explained not really sure how to start. "Hey sweetie, that's okay. You know I'm always willing to look after your babies but is everything okay?" She asked in an unsteady voice. "Yeah yeah." Amanda cringed as her voice became squeaky. "I had a personal emergency and I think someone decided to prank me but they didn't expect the lawn to catch alight." Amanda tried to stick as close to the same excuse as she could. She hoped her made up excuse would hold. Molly replied in a concerned tone, "You know you can always talk to me about anything, right?" Amanda felt instantly guilty at her lie but knowing there was no way she would believe her, she just decided to reply with her usual, "Yes, I know. I also wanted to ask if you could look after my babies a bit longer because the emergency might last a bit longer than I anticipated." Amanda felt uncertain but she knew that Ajax was the guy that definitely didn't want animals anywhere near his home. Molly replied in stern voice, "Yes but I am coming to see you tomorrow." Amanda knew there was no arguing with her so she let out her breath and replied, "I'll text you the address." She hung up and then the doorbell rang. She opened the door to find a gentleman dressed in a suit, he handed the pizza over and bent at the waist before retreating to his car without a word. She felt confusion and was about to call after him before she felt his breath on her neck, "He doesn't say much, does he?" She felt her blood heat and released a breath before turning around. "He sure doesn't." She was face to face with him and felt her gaze drop to his lips. Her body demanded she pull him towards her and steal a kiss. She clenched her fists to keep from acting on the urge. He seemed to be thinking the same because his gaze fell to her lips and his breath hitched. She was inches away from him, if she took a deep breath, her body might brush against his. He looked as if he might lean forward but caught himself, he seemed to freeze in front of her eyes. His expression took on an icy exterior and turned striding confidently into the house, leaving her feeling foolish holding a pizza in the middle of an open doorway. She closed the door after her before taking a deep breath and walking towards the living room where a demon that looked similar to the one she saw before, she yelped and couldn't help her involuntary step back. He tilted his head to the side, looking at her as if she were an interesting insect. Insects get squashed she thought to herself before feigning confidence and striding up to the two seater and plopping down. She opened the box and dug in with vigor because she refused to let this demon stop her from eating. She had already missed too many meals because of the supernatural. Ajax was at the bar helping himself to a drink which she couldn't even bother with. "Ajax, your pet is becoming very comfortable in your abode." The demon said scrutinizing her every move. "She is meant to be comfortable. That is how you treat pets. You should consider getting one." She felt her anger bubbling but took a huge bite of pizza before she could say anything to provoke the demon. Meat supreme... not what she would've ordered but the combination of flavors were intriguing. She took another bite trying her best to ignore the two demons in the house. "You haven't brought the target to father yet. Am I to believe the halflings are stopping you?" He sneered to Ajax and she felt herself begin to take interest in this conversation again. "You haven't retrieved him either. You know it's all about the politics which leads me to believe something is about to change." Ajax hard turned his body fully towards the other demon showing how interested he was. She continued eating so as not to draw suspicion but she was hanging onto every word they were saying. "Always too clever for your own good." The demon tsked. "Heaven and Hell have agreed to turn a blind eye when it comes to this soul." Ajax tensed, "That means there aren't any rules. This may start a war." Ajax muttered before narrowing his eyes on the other demon. "Why are you telling me this?" The demon shrugged before turning back to Amanda. She munched furiously, feigning ignorance of his attention. "That's what brothers are for." The piece she was swallowing got caught and she felt herself begin to choke. The demon disappeared and suddenly Ajax was there hitting her back as she coughed. The piece dislodged and she spat it into a napkin, not caring how gross she might seem. "That was your brother? Guess your looks are from your mother's side." He burst out laughing even though it wasn't that funny.
