Ajax stifled a sigh of relief seeing amanda unharmed in the halflings arms. He had felt a slight surge of panic when he went to retrieve her but she was not where he told her to stay. He had begun to feel a burning rage at the thought of one of his opponents getting their hands on her and torturing information from her. He stormed from the building intending to consult a seer but paused as he caught the faint scent of vanilla frosting and whipped in the direction it seemed to lead to. He materialized to the light post ahead, going as far as he could see when he spotted a halfling carrying her. He appeared infront of them, halting the halflings progress and hoping to unnerve him. "I believe you have something of mine." He relayed in a threatening tone. The halfling said in a sneer, "Nothing I have belongs to you demon filth." To emphasize his disgust the halfling spat to the side causing Amanda to tilt her head at the man carrying her. He almost rolled his eyes as Amanda liked to do with him, "You should work on your insults. I feel no pleasure in using the term 'so last decade'." Ajax said imitating a petulant teenage voice, hoping to knock the opponents ego down a notch when Amanda couldn't hold back her slight bark of laughter. Instead of having the intended affect it caught the stranger's attention as he looked at her with interest gleaming in his eyes. She's MINE, he wanted to snap but just managed to hold back some primal growl. He had never felt the need before but he couldn't think clearly enough to acknowledge the reprocussions at the moment. "So kind of you to sweep her off her feet but she doesn't need it. She is perfectly capable of saving herself." and to make sure he didn't sound like a complete sap, he added, "Just introduce her to another of your bedmates and bam, she doesn't play nice with others." His eyes flickered over her in what he hopped was exasperation but what he caught in her eyes was a combination of warmth at his first statement but it turned into hurt, doubt and anger. He knew that doubt was directed at herself as she looked at the bundle in her arms and somehow managed to cradle the child even more gently, tears misted her eyes but none fell. That doubt made him want to fight her parents for the fact that they made her feel insecure enough to trust him, a low-life, man-w***e that kept her dangling by a string. He played hot and cold with her and he didn't fool himself into thinking she'd stay with him and that was fine because he had no weaknesses and didn't plan on collecting them now. The stranger seemed to ignore his last sentence and stared at her fixedly, "You know this demon?" he spat the word as if it were a blasphemy and he supposed it was. She nodded her head and turned her face to look up at the man, their faces inches a part and didn't that just make Ajax want to grind the male into the asphalt. "He's helping me." she explained although she refused to meet Ajax's eyes as she turned away from the stranger, instead she stared at the pavement beneath his feet. He examind the male and couldn't help but realize that he wasn't terrible looking, compared to Ajax he was nothing but he could relunctantly agree that he was attractive. That was if you liked the goody, protective male kind. He was a fighter with his fighting stance, gear and weapons peaking over his shoulders. The male has short brown hair and pale green eyes. His face had harsh lines and seemed to always be set in a scowl. Yep, Ajax was much sexier, so this male could hardly be competition. The stranger glanced between Ajax and Amanda as if assessing the truth of the statement, seeming to weigh the tension between them, before shaking his head. "Demons only help themselves." The man explained in a gentle voice. "He is using you. You should come with me. I can help you, keep you and the girl safe, with your own kind." He emphasized the last as if to reiterate that she was trusting a demon. Ajax felt his mouth curl into a cruel grin because even though the statements were true and he could feel the radiating hate, he could not argue against it. He hated his kind. He hated himself but she was not going anywhere with somebody she didn't know. The male seemed to tighten his hold on her and Ajax couldn't help grinding his teeth. "Who are you halfling?" He let the venom leak into his voice at the last word. The stranger's head snapped toward him and he gave a disdainful sneer. "You do not need to know my name for me to kill you demon." at those words he set Amanda to her feet and pulled his crisscrossed short swords from their sheaths at his back. Amanda stepped around them still clutching the little girl and walked to Ajax, still not meeting his eyes. Ajax couldn't help a smug smile at seeing her walking towards him. The halfling seemed baffled. Amanda turned to the male and asked, "If I wanted to talk to you about some things... can I contact you?" she asked seeming to be vague. "Nope, not happening beauty, this male is leaving, aren't you angel?" He put enough derision in his tone that caused Amanda to finally look into his eyes with white hot anger. "I don't believe I asked you, demon." She said the word with the same amount of derision that he had used, cluing him in to the knowledge that she had taken the angel comment to heart. The halfing shot a smug look back at Ajax over Amanda's shoulder and that made him bristle. He took a step toward the halfling and felt his power seething under the surface of his skin. The power sizzling just beneath his skin, itching to be released. He let a ball of fire form in his hand and flung it at the male. The male seemed to expect such a move as he expertly dodged the shot with a roll, he came up from the crouch with a blade in his hand that he launched at Ajax. This Ajax had not expected and didn't move fast enough as the blade grazed his upper arm and embedded itself in the tree that decorated the sidewalk. This reminded him that although he wanted to brawl with the angel, they were in pure daylight, on the side of the road, in a human neighborhood. Luckily, no one was on the street. Before he was able to challenge the male to a fight in closed quarters, Amanda stepped between the two men and handed the small human to him. He looked at her as she gave him a pointed look, as if to say you better behave or else. She walked over to the male and said his name, which angered him and caused an uncomfortable sensation in his chest. "Lucius, do you have a cellphone? I'll add my number. I would like to hear from you because I have many questions about our kind and me. I'm going to go with the demon." Wow, he thought, she hadn't even called him by his name and didn't that just make the uncomfortable feeling increase. He settled the little human more comfortably in his arms and called out to her. "Time to go, love." She glanced back at him before giving Lucius a small smile, the male grabbed her hand and handed her a card with just his name and number, no fancy writing or colors. Boring Ajax thought at once trying to ignore his chest area completely. He used the endearment to rankle the halfling and it worked. Lucius was about to say something before Ajax put a hand on Amanda's shoulder and materializing them without letting that halfling begin his sentence let alone finish it.
Amanda took Amy from Ajax as soon as they materialized in his home. She settled amy on the bed in the master room as it the bed was still made. She remembered waking up to Ajax staring at her writhing in the sheets while she dreamed of him. How stupid she had been. She recalled what he had said to Lucius but it had still hurt her in some way. She had thought that for some reason that things had changed between them. She had bascially thrown herself at him when she got the pizza but he had refused her, then in the bedroom she had thought something changed and they could try but he just proved that although they were attracted to one another, there will be no strings attached. She knew this when she first came home with him but she had begun to fall in-like with him and she thought he had begun to feel the same. Well, she was wrong and now she has to focus on learning more about herself and her powers without lusting after her demon. Oh crap, she just called him her demon. She settled Amy in comfortably and went to the shower in the master bedrooom because she refused to run into Ajax with all the hurt she was feeling, he would see it in her stupid expression. She took her time in the shower, hoping enough time would pass that she might begin to feel less ridiculous but no hope there. She sighed audibly and stepped out of the shower. She wrapped a towel around herself when she heard her cellphone ring. She answered without looking at caller-ID and heard a gruff male voice, "Hello? Amanda?" Well, that was fast, she thought to herself. Lucius deep baritone spilled from the speaker, "Are you there?" She snapped out of it, "Yeah, sorry. Hi Lucius. Thanks for calling so soon." He chuckled which sounded deep and slightly attractive. She never would've imgained Lucius chuckling because he was so... serious. She smiled to herself as he answered, "Yeah, I was hoping we could meet up and talk. I have spoken to the elders and no one knew about you. Your father is one of the elders and it was strange that he never mentioned you because your sister is a well renowned fighter in our race." He spoke with the type of respect you would give someone of remarkable skill in the same field. It irritated her and made her want to snap at him. Instead she took a few deep breaths and replied, " I guess my father kept me a secret from the others as he kept everything a secret from me." She couldn't hide the resentment in her tone. There was a pause before he said, "I could train you and help you learn. I am a trainer for our kind but I enjoy the field work more, nevertheless, I wouldn't mind helping you. If you want." He finished almost unsure of himself. "That sounds great. When would you like to begin? It would have to be the early mornings or late evenings as I work as a teacher." The pause seemed to hold a weight now, "We work for the race. Everything we need is provided for us so that we may use our time to hunt the evil ones." She bit her lip to keep herself from screaming in frustration, even more that her father had kept from her. "I didn't know." He seemed to regain his footing with that, "Well, I would suspect so. I'll let you decide when we can meet. You can text me and as for the history of our race, I'll send you some books that will enlighten you. You can send me your address." She paused and thought about where she was currently living. That may not be a good idea, she thought to herself. Then she remembered her great, great grandmother. "I'll text it to you". She ended the call and put down her cell, thinking of the events of the that happened. She had a new connection to her world, so now she officially had a connection to each one of her lineages, minus one demon but he connected her to the other species. He had helped her and protected her, it wasn't his fault that his feelings weren't more and she shouldn't punish him for it. She nodded her head and walked towards the master bedroom door, intent on acting 'noramlly', or ignoring your feelings, she silently added to herself.
