Women vs Men

Amanda felt like she was in shock, how could she be healed? How was this possible? She raised her eyes to see Ajax’s reaction and she wished she hadn’t. She watched as his face transformed from the haunted look she noticed when she came out here to comfort him, to a look of accusation and pure rage. This was the first time she had ever felt afraid of him, she took an involuntary step back and clutched the towel that covered her body closer to her chest as if that could protect her. His deceptively beautiful blue eyes began to glow and that caused her to take another step back because the last time that had happened was when he took that guys soul in front of the club. He clenched his fists and closed his eyes for a few second before opening them again, they had returned to their normal non-glowing state and she let out the breath she hadn’t known she was holding. “Ajax, I don’t know why I healed so fast and I am as unsure as you are, of what I could be. As far as I know I’m human”, she held a hand out in front of her as if that could stop him from attacking her but she tried to let the sincerity from the truth leak into her tone somehow. He ran his hands through his hair and began pacing. This was new for him, usually he couldn’t keep quiet and always had a comeback. “How could you not know that you are not human?” he stopped pacing and faced her. “Has this not happened before? Surely you healing faster than any mortal would be noticeable.” She couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him and wanted to say ‘duh’ but decided this was definitely not the time and she hated it when her students did it. Instead she crossed her arms over her chest, “Well, you are right that would’ve been pretty obvious except strange s**t only started happening after you manipulated my mind and do not think I’ve forgotten about that!” she couldn’t help the way her voice rising at the end of that sentence but she was livid over his manipulation and intrusion into her mind. “Those were not your memories to steal. Did you even think to ask me before you took them away?” now that she started she couldn’t seem to stop the rage flowing through her and she began pacing, not caring that she still wore only a towel. “Oh, that is so typical of you women. As soon as you do something wrong you bring out the book of wrong doings from the past and then you try turn everything on us! Well, it won’t work! I am not the one who lied about being supernatural.” He raged while he watched her pacing but the more he went on his rant the slower she walked and soon her whole body was turned towards him and the look she was giving him made him take a step back. “f**k”, he whispered feeling slightly terrified of the tiny woman in front of him. She began speaking in a soft tone which belied how truly pissed she was, “Once again, I didn’t lie because I didn’t know. If you ever bring up the women versus men debate again, I will not stop myself as I am doing now.” With that said she turned on her heel and stomped off back into the house and into the bedroom closing the door more forcefully than was needed. She searched his cupboards for something to wear and found a drawer that seemed to have mismatched items, no doubt from the countless women he had slept with and she couldn’t help but feel angry. She had slept with him and that was her own fault because she fell for the blue eyes and charming smirk. After she nixed all the underwear because ain’t no way she was wearing anything that wasn’t newly bought or hers, she found super tight jeans that would hug her legs a lot more than she liked and a lose blouse that she actually liked. Wait, if they had left these clothing items here, what had they worn when they... nope, no, she was not going there. She opened the bedroom door and walked into the lounge and sat stiffly on the couch, not trusting herself to do much more without facing Ajax. She waited for him to make an appearance because she honestly had no idea where he went after their little tiff. He came into the lounge in a new set of impeccable pants and a T-shirt hugging his well defined body. His feet were bare and his hair looked wet, as if he had just showered. He looked weary as he sat across from her as if she would bite him and she found that a bit comical because he was the demon and she was... well, she didn’t know what she was but that’s why she wanted to talk to him. “When did you shower?” she asked not wanting to leap straight into the elephant in the room. “When you were finding something to wear, nice choice,” he winked, “I was having a shower in the guest bedroom.” He shrugged as if this were no big deal. “Remind me why I bathed and dressed in your room.” She asked feeling her anger rising again. “I was supposed to help you.” He smiled, that naughty, cheeky smile and she forced a few breaths out knowing what he meant and trying to calm herself. “This isn’t why I wanted to talk to you. How would I find out what I am?” she just jumped right into it, screw tiptoeing. He still had the smile on his face but it was no longer reaching his eyes. “ Well, there are tests but those are used to find out what weakens you and hence we could make an educated guess as to what you are, but I don’t think we should opt for the torture routine just yet. Best place to start is asking your parents.” He listed these options as if they were no big deal but she remembered visiting the numerous psychiatrists when she was little because her parents thought she was crazy. She had to lie about her dreams and try to hold in her screams at night. Ajax watched as Amanda paled at his words. He had just been joking about the searching for weaknesses part. He found he wanted to soothe her, before he knew what he was doing, he was sitting next to her wrapping her in his arms. She didn’t resist but she didn’t relax into him either. He pulled back enough to see her pale blue, gray eyes looking up at him with something akin to fear. She seemed to relax while staring into his eyes. Suddenly feeling too intimate he broke eye contact and got up abruptly, his absence making her slightly fall against the cushion on the couch where he had been. He hadn’t thought she’d been leaning on him and felt like a jerk for moving but he couldn’t feel this way. It wasn’t safe for either of them and the more he let her in the more he would feel and he was a demon, not supposed to let otherworldly bothers affect him. She straightened herself feeling embarrassed that she had fallen over at his leaving. Her cheeks were a bright red and she seemed to find her bare toes fascinating. “Before I go see my parents I’m going to need to stop back home to change and at least get shoes,” she hadn’t even finished her sentence and his head was shaking no. “It’s too risky. Who knows what other demons are at your place and I have a car. We can go in the morning.” She understood what he was saying but she couldn’t leave her house with a broken door and all her stuff ready for anyone to steal. Wait, the police must have shown up and the fire department. Her parents are probably going to be called. She might be filed as missing. She definitely needed to go back, “I need to go back. My front door is broken and my place is probably swarming with police and the fire department.” He seemed to think this over for a bit, “Yeah, that’s probably safe since we aren’t allowed to attack in front of humans.” Amanda looked appalled at the thought and shook her head. Demons. “Well, let’s go then.” He nodded and walked to his room, putting on shoes and grabbing a jacket and his keys off his dresser. “Come.” Was all he said and moved towards a brown door that led to his double door garage. The first car was a flashy sports car to attract the ladies although he never used it. The salesman guaranteed it would pay for itself but Ajax didn’t feel like any of the women he brought home was worth it. He didn’t need to impress them for them to join him in bed but as he glanced over his shoulder and watched Amanda finger combing her hair while she tried to keep up with his long strides, he felt he needed to impress her. She hadn’t been looking at the cars but mostly worrying about her wet hair in tangles around her shoulders. She gave a little huff, to show her frustration and the small smile that tilted his lips surprised him. He schooled his features and walked over to the second car which was a more unimpressive, Chevy sedan. He purposely did not open her door for her because he was not trying to impress her. She didn’t seem bothered and climbed in unaffected. The drive to her place was shorter than expected and in no time he saw the sadness in her eyes as she watched the fire department deal with the remaining flames and the police department search her home for intruders. She had to lie and say she wasn’t there. The neighbours were standing on their lawns looking at the spectacle and she was giving her statement to the police. While Amanda sorted the humans out and her tales wrapped wool over their eyes, he leaned against his car, impatiently waiting to find out the truth about the blonde beauty that had captured his eye the first night they met.
