Chapter: Seven
Pain.
It seeped into every inch of Yan Hua's body.
His fingers twitched beneath layers of white bandages as a dull ache spread through his arms. Even breathing felt foreign, as though this body no longer belonged to him.
The room was silent except for the faint crackle of incense burning in the corner.
A medicinal scent lingered in the air.
Yan Hua slowly opened his eyes.
The roof above him was unfamiliar.
Where... am I?
He pushed himself upright, only to suck in a sharp breath. Every muscle screamed in protest.
Before he could gather his thoughts—
Fragments of memories crashed into his mind.
Golden eyes.
A pair of Yin and Yang energies spinning like twin stars.
A crimson gaze watching from endless darkness.
Blood.
His hands...
Covered in blood.
The screams.
The desperate cries.
"No..."
His pupils shrank.
His breathing became ragged.
The memories refused to stop.
Faces twisted in terror.
A sword cutting through flesh.
Blood splattering across the ground.
His own trembling hands reaching toward the lifeless bodies.
"No..."
He stumbled off the bed.
His legs gave way beneath him.
He crawled backward until his back slammed against the cold wall.
His fingers dug into his hair.
"I'm..."
His voice shook uncontrollably.
"I'm a monster..."
The words barely escaped his lips.
"I killed them..."
"I... killed someone..."
His shoulders trembled violently.
Outside the room, hurried footsteps echoed through the corridor.
Xue Mei carried a bowl of freshly brewed medicine toward Yan Hua's room. She had barely reached the doorway when his broken cries pierced the silence.
The porcelain bowl slipped from her hands.
Crash!
Medicine splashed across the stone floor.
"Yan Hua!"
She rushed inside.
The sight before her made her heart tighten.
Yan Hua was curled into the corner like a wounded animal, his face pale, his entire body shaking.
His eyes no longer held their usual warmth.
They were filled only with fear.
Not fear of death.
Fear of himself.
Xue Mei slowly approached.
"Yan Hua..."
The moment she reached out, he flinched.
"Don't come closer."
His voice was hoarse.
"What if... I lose control again?"
His hands shook harder.
"What if I hurt you too?"
Xue Mei stopped.
Pain flickered across her face.
She wanted nothing more than to comfort him.
But she knew his fear was real.
Taking another careful step, she knelt a short distance away.
"You are not a monster."
Yan Hua slowly raised his head.
His eyes were red.
"I saw the blood..."
His voice cracked.
"I remember the screams."
He swallowed hard.
"Did... did someone die?"
Xue Mei remained silent.
Her silence answered more than words ever could.
Yan Hua stared at her.
"Tell me."
His voice became firmer.
"What happened?"
She lowered her eyes.
There was no hiding it anymore.
"Your bloodline..."
She paused.
"...has awakened."
Yan Hua frowned.
"My bloodline?"
"The Demonic Bloodline."
Silence filled the room.
Then Yan Hua laughed.
A bitter, disbelieving laugh.
"Impossible."
He shook his head.
"I don't even have a dantian."
"I've never cultivated."
"How could I awaken a bloodline?"
"It doesn't make sense."
"It shouldn't be possible."
Xue Mei's expression remained solemn.
"Neither your lack of cultivation nor your missing dantian could suppress what has slept inside your blood since birth."
Her words landed like thunder.
Yan Hua's face drained of color.
With a gentle wave of her hand, spiritual energy gathered in the air.
A bronze mirror floated before him.
"Look."
Yan Hua hesitated.
His trembling hand slowly reached for the mirror.
The instant he looked into it—
His heartbeat stopped.
A pair of radiant golden eyes stared back at him.
Ancient.
Cold.
Beautiful.
Yet terrifying.
His fingers tightened around the mirror.
"...Golden eyes..."
His breathing became uneven.
"No..."
His voice trembled.
"This isn't me."
He threw the mirror with all his strength.
Before it struck the wall—
Boom!
A violent surge of spiritual energy erupted from his body.
The mirror shot through the room like a meteor, smashing through the wooden window before disappearing into the distant mountains.
Silence.
Yan Hua stared at his own hands.
Golden spiritual light flowed around his fingertips before fading away.
His eyes widened.
"Spiritual Qi..."
His lips trembled.
"I've never cultivated..."
"So... where did this power come from?"
Panic overwhelmed him.
He rushed toward the door.
"Yan Hua!"
Xue Mei reached out to stop him.
She was too late.
The door burst open.
Several Yan Family disciples stood outside.
The moment they saw him—
The corridor fell deathly silent.
Then someone whispered,
"It's him..."
Another disciple instinctively stepped backward.
"The monster..."
"He woke up."
Fear spread through the crowd like wildfire.
One disciple pointed at Yan Hua with a trembling finger.
"My senior brother died because of you!"
Another shouted,
"Murderer!"
"You brought disaster upon the Yan Family!"
"You shouldn't exist!"
Every accusation struck Yan Hua harder than a blade.
His breathing slowed.
His shoulders gradually slumped.
The hope in his eyes disappeared.
Monster...
Murderer...
The words echoed endlessly inside his mind.
He lowered his head.
"So..."
A weak smile appeared on his face.
"They're right."
"I really am a monster."
Behind him, Xue Mei clenched her fists.
She wanted to silence every voice in the corridor.
She wanted to protect him.
But deep down...
She knew this was only the beginning.
Golden eyes had appeared.
The hidden bloodline had awakened.
The world would never allow Yan Hua to live peacefully again.
She closed her eyes.
"No one can escape destiny forever," she murmured.
"What is destined to happen..."
"...will always find its way."
---
Far beyond the borders of the Yan Family...
Within the endless Black Mountains...
A lone masked demon knelt beneath a towering throne carved from black jade.
"My Lord."
Silence answered him.
Then—
A single crimson eye slowly opened.
Ancient pressure swept across the palace.
The kneeling demon lowered his head until it nearly touched the floor.
"The heir..."
The deep voice echoed through the hall.
"...has awakened?"
"Yes, my Lord."
The throne room became silent once more.
Then a faint smile curved the man's lips.
"Excellent."
His crimson eye gleamed with anticipation.
"Summon the Shadow Legion."
He slowly rose from his throne.
"It's time..."
"...to bring the young master home."
