The Sailendra dynasty or Syailendra (Śailendravamśa) is the name of the dynasty or dynasty of kings who ruled in Mdaŋ (Medang Kingdom of Ancient Mataram Kingdom), Central Java since 752 and Sriwijaya, the island of Sumatra since the leadership of Balaputradewa. Most of its kings were adherents and patrons of Mahayana Buddhism. However, according to the Sojomerto Inscription, Dapunta Sailendra, who became the ancestor of the Sailendra dynasty, was a Shiva Hindu. Although the relics and manifestations of this dynasty are mostly found in the Kedu plain, Central Java, the origin of this dynasty is still debated. Besides originating from Java, other regions such as Sumatra or even India and Cambodia were proposed as the origin of this dynasty.
