Chapter Seven

1060 Words
Andrew looked down at her and kissed her head. “Why are you scared?” He asked, a little worried. At first, he thought she might have found out what he was, but then he realized that she wouldn’t have been hugging him if she knew and was scared. She would have walked back into the building and would have kept her distance. Which meant that it had to be about something else. She kept her head buried into his neck and bit her lower lip. “I’m scared that I won’t win. These women are the best of the best throughout the state, and they have all come to prove they are number one. I’m not as experienced as all of them, but I need the money for college.” She whispered, her voice not letting it get above that. He just smiled and made her look up at him. “I watched all of the dances before yours. And yes, while I might be a little biased, I still believe yours was the best. They might be more experienced than you, but you have also been dancing since you could walk. Your passion shows through your dancing.” He said while stroking her cheek and looking into her eyes. He wanted her to know that he meant what he said. “You really think so?” She asked and he just nodded, giving her a short but sweet kiss.  She just smiled and brought him down for another kiss. This one lasted longer and she tried to gain access to inside his mouth, but he wouldn’t let her, playing it off as he was teasing her. They slowly pulled away from each other and headed back inside, each going their separate ways since Sarah still needed to get dressed into a different outfit for her next dance, ballet. She hugged Tristan and thanked him for helping out before he went to meet up with his boyfriend to watch the rest of the competition from the audience. She walked into the locker room and pulled out her bag, grabbing her leotard and ballet flats. It was black, had a small v-neckline to it, and had an open back. It had a loose skirt attached to it since she wasn’t a fan of tutus. Ballet wasn’t one of the classes she taught at the dance studio, like ballroom and hip-hop, but she was still trained in it from a young age, so she had the experience. Once she was finished getting ready, she headed to backstage since her name would be called after the current contestant was finished. She was still a little scared about how she would place, but Andrew did help her calm down. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath but opened her eyes back up when her name was called. She walked out and waited for the music to start before she started. Her routine actually started when the music reached the five second mark, but she had practiced the routine so much that it was pure muscle memory. She didn’t even have to think about it anymore. Through the dance, she told the story of a woman who had fallen in love but got her heart broken. The dance ended as the woman put her heart back together and found the right man for her. Once the dance was finished and the music stopped, she stood up straight before doing a bow. She stood up again and then walked off stage, being greeted by one of the other contestants. They had known each other for a few years from different competitions. They hugged each other and complimented each of their dances since Sarah had seen hers before she walked outside. She walked back to the locker rooms after they finished their conversation and got changed again into a dark blue fitted crop top and basketball shorts. Since her last dance was a hip-hop dance, she needed the flexibility that the outfit gave her. This would be the dance she felt most comfortable with because it was a routine she had been doing for years. She grabbed a sweater and decided to go back outside. She sat down against the building and closed her eyes, wrapping the sweater close to her body. After a couple minutes, she heard the door open a few feet away and she looked over to see Andrew. She just giggled and shook her head. “Are you even in there at all when it’s not my turn?” She asked, just teasing. He sat down beside her and shrugged. “Not really. I’ve seen some other dances but not more than a couple handfuls. I came to see you dance, not everyone else.” He said as she rested her head on his shoulder. “I saw a few people tear up during your last dance. I think that’s a good thing.” Sarah just laughed and played with her fingers before he rested his hand on hers. “I would like to think so. I guess we will see once the judges say who the winner is.” She said and paused for a moment before looking up at him. “Thank you for coming. I know you had to cancel a meeting in order to come.” He kissed her cheek and nodded. “I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. I’m glad I came. I’ve never watched dancing live before. Just usually in movies or shows when it comes up.” He explained while she just smiled and looked down at their hands. “I think that’s how a lot of people are. Not too many people are into dancing or watching. I think it takes a certain personality to be into it as much as some people are.” She said while he stood back up and held out his hand for her. She took it and stood up, heading back inside with her. He leaned down and gave her a short kiss before heading back to his seat. She watched him leave and went backstage to wait for her name to be called.
