Chapter Two

982 Words
Once Andrew had left for his meeting and the girls had their drinks, Katie dragged Sarah off to the dance floor. They both danced to the beat of the music although after just a few minutes, a guy came up to Katie. They went towards the middle of the dance floor, leaving Sarah on her own. She made her way back to the bar and sat down at one of the chairs, ordering another drink since she had finished the first. Sarah was never one for going to dance at a club or bar, but Katie could be very convincing when she wanted to be. And they were best friends so it was hard to say no. Someone did come up after about ten minutes and sat down next to Sarah at the bar, but she just continued to take sips of her drink until they spoke up. "Can I buy your next drink, beautiful?" The man next to her said and she was about to respond when Andrew decided to show back up and put his hand on Sarah's shoulder. "She's on my tab tonight." He responded before Sarah could and watched as the other man nodded and scurried off when he saw the club owner. Even if he didn't realize who Andrew was completely, he had a stature and attitude that could be intimidating to other men. Usually, that was what drew women in. But not this women who was next to him. She was different. She didn't care that he owned the club or that other women in the club were looking at him. All she cared about was that he was being nice to her and standing up for her. Sarah looked over at Andrew and raised an eyebrow. "I could have handled that. He seemed like a decent guy, not like others I've come across." She said with a smile as Andrew led her onto the dance floor since she still owed him a dance. "I have no doubt that you could have handled it, but I wanted to." He said as he rested his hands on her hips and started to move them to the beat of the music with her chest pressed to his upper stomach from the height difference. Her arms moved up so that her wrists were resting on his shoulders as they moved to the beat. "So, what's your story? Why are you in New York?" He asked, trying to get her guard down as he did with every other woman in the past. "I grew up here. My parents moved here from Kentucky when I was still in preschool so this is really the only home I remember. They came here to own a dance studio and I grew up working at it with my older brother." She started and realized Andrew was actually paying attention so she continued. "I've been competing in ballroom since I was a child, but I'm also trained in ballet and hip-hop. I'm in college right now for Business so once my parents retire, they can hand down the studio to me. They've already been helping me learn the ropes." Andrew was definitely impressed by her ambition. Most of the women he ran across were party girls who didn't want any responsibility and would prefer to spend their parents' money than get a job. Sarah was starting to remind him of his only two previous loves. They were both ambitious young women who didn't take s**t from anyone. And they were the only two who refused to go home with him right away. "Impressive. That's a refreshing change." He said and she raised an eyebrow so he explained. "I don't get outside of the clubs much, so a lot of the women I meet are party girls who refuse to get a real job." Sarah just nodded and looked up at him as they continued to move together, not even realizing the song had changed while they were talking. "I refused to let my parents pay for any of my bills past age 16. They wanted to continue helping until I graduated high school, but I felt that once I was able to drive and go out on my own, they shouldn't have to keep providing for me." Andrew just smirked and she looked up at him, laughing a little bit. "What?" "I'm not used to hearing someone so passionately describe wanting to provide for themselves. Most adults with full-time jobs don't want to provide for themselves. Like I said earlier, it's refreshing to hear." She just blushed soft and looked back down. He lifted her chin back up and shook his head. "Don't hide that beautiful face from me." He said and she just blushed a brighter red. They kept eye contact with each other until a familiar voice spoke up. "So, once you two are done ogling each other, are you ready to head home?." Katie asked and crossed her arms as she looked at the two. Just glad her friend was relaxing and not caring about anything going on in her life. Sarah nodded and leaned up, kissing Andrew's cheek. "Maybe we will see each other again sometime." She whispered in his ear before heading to the door with Katie as they headed out of the club and back to their apartment. They got a cab so they could make it back home safely and Sarah leaned back, thinking about her conversation with Andrew. He may have been rich and handsome, sexy in fact, but he was still sweet and seemed to actually pay attention to her when they were talking. Most guys pretended to listen, or didn't even bother pretending. It was a nice change of pace for her, but that was what worried her too. He could turn around and start acting like the majority of guys that were out there.
